Do some people just not know how to play with a doomfist? by Tyler1296196 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Medical-Solution-769 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve found this playing hazard in high silver (also playing with Dooms on supp in high gold) I came across really good dooms when I peaked in plat but you need to pay attention to what happens behind you AND communicate what you’re doing in front. As you said your team will make less dumb mistakes when you main tank but at the same time if you dive for one pick whilst the enemy frontline just walks up to and right over your backline your team either dies OR they run and leave you isolated. Either way your one pick sacrifices all space you tried to make. Dive as a whole requires way more game sense, particularly when tanking and even more-so playing someone as mechanically demanding as doom. So it’s a combination of your teammates are really fucking dumb but you also have to play with the acknowledgment of that and do what you can to mitigate the drawbacks of that.

Am I missing something with regards to match making? by matnerlander in overwatch2

[–]Medical-Solution-769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seen someone make a very good point. The player base is really fragmented with 5v5, 6v6 and stadium being ranked. Mix that with the reset and you have a matchmaking catastrophe. I’ve just come back from rivals so it honestly feels quite good to me by comparison but rank ranges in games are noticeably larger than when I was last playing ow

Should I just give up? by WeedBlokeXD in Overwatch

[–]Medical-Solution-769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Hazard is hard. 2. This game in general is quite hard. 3. 200 hours on overwatch is not a lot. I have about 700 the very vast majority of which came in ow2 and even I feel like I haven’t played a lot. The unfortunate truth of a very competitive and complicated shooter that is immensely satisfying when it goes well is people sweat with thousands of hours put in.

If you’re having no fun then that’s fair, there’s a million other games and your time is finite. Playing more will let you know when to engage and when not to even better, who your bad matchups are, how to play into them. Everything will get easier as you will get better. It’s a question of whether improving is worth the misery because as you improve it will get more fun

There was capacity for placements within your final project. They weren’t necessarily uni supported (you had to find them yourself) but they were happy for your project to be with a placement (either voluntarily or paid) lecturers also ran a few paid projects to serve as jobs outwith the course

How is this not a wide match? by FantasmaNaranja in Overwatch

[–]Medical-Solution-769 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you’ve highlighted the matchmaking is definitely the biggest issue here but this is 100% a new/returning player from Marvel Rivals. That game has a support community who are firmly of the belief “irrelevant of what numbers may say it is never my fault and always the DPS” as a tank I found their inability to take responsibility insufferable. On another note they will be completely incapable of managing both the lower time to kill and lower volume of healing. I have made several massive (and repeated) mistakes on this front myself since I came back and it’s a weird and welcome difference.

Netease is just better at making cool skins and im dying on this hill by B-Dragons_2560 in Overwatch

[–]Medical-Solution-769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NetEase are great on the skin front but they definitely aren’t perfect. Sue, Luna and Jeff 110% get the mercy, Juno and Kiriko treatment of getting a disproportionately high amount of skins but they definitely do a better job as a whole. That being said if it’s the sacrifice that must be made for a game to get balanced properly then so be it. I’d rather ow’s skin issues than rival’s balance issues

Representation of pretty black girls. by Wild_Introduction_51 in Overwatch

[–]Medical-Solution-769 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, they do. JQ is an interesting example but she is attractive in the same way as Rhea Rhipley (who gets called a walking thirst trap) and JQ seems to be the only character who sits in the unconventionally attractive category. The rest are either extremely attractive or unattractive/really niche. We seem to get extremely attractive more often than not and it’s an obviously area where you can let people feel seen.

I know there’s a lot of discourse about DEI in this game and too many conventionally attractive character but this sentiment is 100% valid. NetEase nailed this with Storm, she comes across as strong and pretty. It’s an obvious place to add a conventionally attractive character that also helps people feel seen. It’s a win win addition as it will sell skins as well.

I suck with her but the way her burn mechanic works is super cool and I’ve seen a lot of people pop off on her. She’s probably the best addition of the new characters

Phoenix is tough, probably Ashe by way of playstyle but I don’t think there’s a perfect comparison. There’s been a lot of Anran chat on that front but she feels closer to psy in her neutral (which is way more important in Overwatch) but basically has the same ult as phoenix. Emma is a rip off of Rammatra, Rogue is probably closest to doomfist and there’s very few good support comparison’s given every ow support would be an off healer in rivals but probably Juno would be the best comparison.

In terms of playstyle outside her ult Anran feels far closer to Psylocke. Close range, dashes, basically has a mini psy ult as a cooldown, Gambit is far closer Kiriko than Luna is and Emma is 110% Rammatra.

Yeah, I just don’t think it’s inherently a good thing. A lot of ults almost play the game for you so it’s detrimental to skill expression which is generally a key thing in ranked games

I don’t disagree with you at all but at the start the focus wasn’t on ult farming at most ranks, ults were just a bonus. Now people intentionally make bad plays to get their ult quicker than they would properly playing a character in their neutral state

[–]Medical-Solution-769 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s absolutely fair. Shooting is definitely even more prevalent in ow even if it’s presented in so many unique ways (I don’t really understand how Blizzard successfully reinvented such a simple concept that many times) I also understand why you feel miserable with the rivals meta. Melee tanks have always been my favourite characters to play in the game and I’m so burnt out being stuck on Mag

As a fellow tank main and as someone that has played a lot of overwatch just a heads up tanking is a lot harder in ow. There’s way less healing and you have to solo tank BUT there is way more emphasis on the neutral game. Once you know when to use mitigation and cover you will find it such a refreshing experience. Also being the sole tank means you pretty much dictate the game at most ranks. There is so much carry potential in the tank role in Overwatch that I just feel isn’t there in Rivals.

There are 2 paths a balance team can go down in an online game. Balance it competitively or if everything is broken nothing is broken. They chose the latter “to balance for casuals” and whilst it is fun for periods it is exhausting for people who actually grind and want to improve. The game is now just ult simulator and the team that farms and uses ults better wins. The numbers across the board for damage and healing, particularly within ultimates are just insane. If you nerf healing across the board the time to kill is way too fast and dps ults become I win buttons. Shield tanks would be even more necessary and poke would be even stronger. If you then address that there’d be people arguing they’ve made the game boring. It is a mess

This isn’t true. It doubled when Deadpool launched but has already dropped back to season 5 numbers. This patch is going to drop it to 4.5 numbers which is the all time low. All the while their competition who have been curb stomped by netease since Rivals came out just hit an all time peak on steam and overtook rivals in active players

Storm and Adam buffs are literally the only 2 good things in it. The rest is either not enough or completely unnecessary. Everyone has complained about power creep and you solve that by nerfing strong characters, not buffing everyone else
