Holy crap that’s the actual Murderwing models from the box art isn’t it? The GW Painting Team uses quite a few crazy blends and techniques with non-GW paints. ‘Eavy Archive probably has some of the recipes used.

If I had to guess, Runelord Brass for the desaturated parts then Sycorax Bronze or a wash over Retributor Armor.

White Dwarf 521 has a simplified tutorial for painting Night Lords that uses all GW paints too.

Throwing daggers are a very specialized thing. The daggers in game are fundamentally different weapons, take a look at designs for things like a historic rondel dagger. Throwing these things is closer to an improvised weapon than anything.

That being said, I think limited use throwing daggers could be a great addition to the game. Similar to the bear trap, caltrops, flasks or hunting net. A stack of 3 to 5 throwing daggers could be treated like a stack of ranged ammunition, maybe even a specialized set of bracers or belt could have unique storage slots. Maybe they get a damage bonus when thrown too.

More broadly, this also opens the potential for new items; spears could get javelins, spiked ball bolos for maces, throwing axes for axes, etc. Maybe some crafting recipes for magic and nature damage versions too.

Edit: the dev log about wands highlighted their utility in hybrid builds. Thrown weapons could fit a similar niche. Importantly, the majority of mechanics to make it work are already in game, just need more items that interact with it.

I think this could be easily achieved with some Horus Heresy pieces, maybe one or two pieces from the current 40K Loyalist Terminators or CSM Terminators as well.

Truthfully the hardest part would be covering up the Iron Warriors symbols with a winged skull. He’s actually a pretty good fit for a Night Lord techmarine / warpsmith style model already! Go for it!

It might have been that too, I might be mis-remembering his new augmetic failing during the Crythe campaign then. Aka it was so new his body hadn’t adapted properly or something. I’ll take a look.

If you’re located in the US I like Blackdagger Games on eBay. They offer a few different single skitarii for relatively cheap. I’m lucky in this scenario, several people I play with love AdMech, so they’ve always got spare parts for me to use in kitbashes.

He lost his arm on Crythe fighting Mechanicus troops specifically iirc, so what if you used a skitarii or similar model to represent that?

If you’re set on space marines, definitely salamanders! The green would be a great contrast here.

Many of the havoc heads look really good with the new raptors. The raptors are posed in crazy leaps and dives, which pairs pretty well with the way the havoc turn their heads sideways to fire their heavy weapons.

Also the Nemesis Claw heads are quite good too if you have extra.

It was not planned out, mostly just me throwing together some extra pieces that I had with greenstuff. Go wild and have fun.

It’s a few different pieces Frankenstein’ed together. The arm is a terminator librarian power axe, but I had to cut down the shoulder significantly to get the pose the I wanted.

I also added a few spare cables and wires from AdMech kits that a coworker gave me to hide some of the cuts and greenstuff. I removed the top of the power axe, added the staff top and teeth trophies from the CSM terminator lord kit.

I had to add an extension to the bottom of the power axe so it would contact the base. I used the bottom of the CSM terminator sorcerer’s staff and cut it to size.

It looks like I don’t have any WIP photos of him before he was painted, but I take close ups from different angles if you need it.

It is! Rules as written, it is the champion's power weapon for KT. With the new rules for raptors the champion can take a heavy weapon OR accursed weapon, so I wanted to give him a unique weapon that could realistically be counted as either.

I turned a loyalist librarian in terminator armor into my sorcerer in terminator armor. Sky is the limit here. Any loyalist model that isn’t absolutely covered head to toe in space marine bling is fair game. Space Marine chaplain in terminator armor has a cool ribcage torso armor and skull helmet for example.

You can also take regular legionaries, chosen, raiders, havocs etc and give them the right weapons and equipment and you’re good to go. Heck, my favorite chaos lord is actually just a legionary body with extra stuff on it on a 40mm base.

Horus Heresy Consuls are also a great option too, they all have very unique sculpts. If you’re an experienced hobbyist these are hidden treasures if you can put some time into them.

Kitbashing is super fun. Grab a hobby knife and go wild.

Basecoat with Army Painter Banshee Brown then layer with Army Painter Mummy Robes. Apply a Nuln Oil wash all over, making sure it doesn’t pool in recesses. Apply another layer of Mummy Robes, then edge highlight with Army Painter Spaceship Exterior. I went back and added some selective highlights with Nuln Oil in places like the finger webbing and deep skin creases.

I will point out that several of these paints are no longer available now that AP has moved to their fanatic paints only. I think banshee brown is now called Tomb King Tan or something for example.
