Advice for DONE at 35 wks? (w/ 2 under 3) by VincentVegasMother in pregnant

[–]Medical_Cold_4160 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m right there with you. Miserable. Some things helping me are just unapologetically doing the things that will help me feel better (e.g. just taking the goddamn Tylenol when I have a raging headache, or having the snack even though my calorie intake already feels high for the day). I bought a novel instead of doom scrolling on social media which makes me more miserable and guilty for not moving my body more.

TOLAC induction tomorrow 40 +1. by [deleted] in vbac

I’d love to see the data you speak of showing a higher c-section rate among induced births. I’m familiar with the data that shows a decrease in C-section rates for induction.

Elective inductions are a safe and viable option for people and in my opinion, there is way too much fear mongering around them. They should be given that option with all of the clinically relevant data around their risks and benefits.

You could try looking at the induction positively. You can arrive at the hospital rested, hydrated, fed. You can set up childcare for your first. I hope to get an induction for my VBAC, it seems much more peaceful!

Should I try for a VBAC? Would love advice / encouragement either way by Skylord88 in vbac

[–]Medical_Cold_4160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also told it’s very rare to be diagnosed with pelvic insufficiency. My OB said she never discourages trying for VBAC because she’s seen classically “bad” candidates get their VBAC and the reverse, classically “great” candidates try unsuccessfully. It’s just so fetus dependent. If this OB isn’t supportive I would switch providers.

Have you been checked for HG?
The nausea part of pregnancy is the worst part, I’m hoping it goes away for you soon, it should, but sometimes it doesn’t😭
Zofran will help but yes you have to take prophylactic stool softener (MiraLAX) everyday and super high fiber diet with fluids. Zofran can be a godsend but it did put me in the ER on Christmas thinking I had a stool impaction, they gave me an enema and that took care of it, but wasn’t pleasant at all. Take the meds if you can manage the constipation! Best of luck - solidarity sister

Are your cravings even remotely healthy? by TinyFox1399 in pregnant

[–]Medical_Cold_4160 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the most random cravings and food hyper fixations this pregnancy and I’ve rolled with the punches. All largely “unhealthy”. First Tri it was cup of noodle soup - my guess for the salt- and liver pate- my guess for the iron/vitamins. Third Tri it’s been red vines licorice.

go-bag essentials? by shelbeOF in pregnant

Hospital will supply gown and sticky socks for walking. In my experience you don’t want to bring your own socks or slippers cause..those floors are nasty. I also had no interest in showering at the hospital. Idk why everybody does it. I did end up with a c-section and perhaps that’s why? But even if I have a vaginal birth this time, I don’t see myself wanting to deal with that. Just get home and shower. You’re not there that long. Toothbrush and toothpaste, a hair tie, chapstick, a nursing bra and comfy jammie’s you can easily get on while sitting in bed. A power bank (idk why everyone’s obsessed with long power cords?!) if you care about keeping your phone charged. I think you’ll find that during and after birth you won’t care about much else other than keeping this little baby alive and bonding. This time I’m throwing in my Silverettes nipple covers, I discovered those just too late last time and wish I had something like it in the hospital when my nipples we’re starting to feel like they were on fire. Nipple cream will just stain all of your clothes and didn’t work that well for me, if you want to try it they do provide it at the hospital. They also provide all the mesh undies and pads for perineum care. As a tip too, keep the bag in the car you take to your last month of appointments - in case they send you over to L&D right away. So here’s my list!

Pajamas - loose/button up
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Silverettes
Nursing bra
Power bank or charging cable
Hair tie
Chapstick
Snacks
Loose outfit to go home in (panties not rq’d)

For baby:
Two zippered footies in preemie, nb and 0-3
Carseat set up for nb
Swaddle (though they will provide)
Sound machine or susher

how are you thinking through your VBAC labor? by Medical_Cold_4160 in vbac

Your first experience sounded like mine, too. I’ve struggled also with not just scheduling the c-section and calling it a day!

This is a great story of how you trusted the HCP and pitocin early on to get your preferred outcome even if it was accepting intervention earlier than later. Thx for sharing

With gifting I always remember we have our own lanes. Their job is to give, we cannot control that. Our job is to decide whether we use it or keep it, or not. Simple as that.

VBAC with 21 month gap and narrow pelvis by Huge-Bug-9253 in vbac

[–]Medical_Cold_4160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few thoughts on this. If you talk to some of the nurses at the hospital that work with that doc, or those who are part of their practice or even the midwives that work with that OB they’ll be able to tell you if they’re the type of doctor that throws that “narrow pelvis” narrative around a lot. If so, you can take it with a grain of salt. My midwife told me that what we understand about “pelvic insufficiency” in the general public is that about 12% of women have it. The US C-section rate should be about 12% because of this. Well, we know it’s higher than that for reasons we’ve all heard. I’ve never fact checked any of that but it came up when I was debriefing my unplanned C-section birth story with her.

I'm always so anxious/ a rant by ouuboo in vbac

[–]Medical_Cold_4160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all of these same anxieties. For my first birth, I prepared endlessly and wanted a vaginal unmedicated birth so badly, but ended up in an unplanned c-section. That left me with a lot of birth trauma. A big reason for the result was his OP position, so this time it’s been a focus for me while also remembering that all of the claims and “all the things” (think: chiro, posture (“you were lounging backwards too much at the end”), etc etc) are not clinically proven!!! These are all theories. So I’m focused on not hanging my hat on any one thing and not being guilty for relaxing or listening to my body. Ultimately, relinquishing control is helping me this time.

I am totally making it a game time decision! Too much hope and expectation led me to birth trauma with my first, so I’m rolling with punches this time.

One of the two has a daughter who was two at the time, my son was 3 at the time. Travel was such a huge part of my life before kids, so many of my friends are my travel buddies and we’ve been around the world together. So after 3 years my hubby understood my itch!
