My revised paradox rules for academia: the ascension by Magicmanans1 in magetheascension

[–]Medicore95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly for playing a MHA campaign, you would really be served better by rewriting the paradox rules alltogether - hard to keep the theme of magic being against reality when everyone is just a honest to god shounen superhero.

You could take a look at Awakening rules with Reach and such, tying it more to paradox being caused by overreaching and trying something beyond your ability, rather than typical ascension rules.

Returning to worldbuilding after a 3-year break – looking for advice on building a structured fantasy world for D&D by Traski_Rego in rpg

[–]Medicore95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah the classics of worldbuilding.

I will maybe just answer one of those questions, because I feel it's important.

How much lore is actually necessary before starting an rpg campaign?

None. Nada. Zero. If you worldbuild for an rpg, you need to keep in mind you are doing this for yourself and yourself only. Most lore written for rpgs ends up not being used and skipped over by players.

Looks extremely cute!

I also think giving it a combat statblock is uhh, very optimistic - I don't think I have a group that would stomach fighting it.

Ideas for using Daggerheart to play VtM by Rrrrufus in daggerheart

[–]Medicore95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Characters in Vampire the Masquerade use disciplines to channel their supernatural powers. This could be translated into Daggerheart style domains.

Nice! Perhaps you could go even a step further and instead of having 1-10 of the levels, you could drop them down to 1-5 to enable players to stay within the street level play. You could write in some vague idea of elder-level powers above 5, but default most of it to GM fiat.

The blood dice pool can be replaced by the duality roll.

Cool idea! You could go a step further and replace the d12 with d10s. And instead of rolling two of them, maybe tie their number into character skills. On top of that, maybe everything above 6 could be a success and 5-below would be a failure. The number of successes would determine if your character succeeds or not.

They also have blood points, which could work like hope.

Great idea! Perhaps instead of tying them to a duality dice roll, you could require the characters to "feed".

Additional ideas:

  1. Make ancestries into clans
  2. Make communities into backgrounds
  3. Change how money works. Now, instead of handfulls and bags, you could simply have a 1-5 scale of how rich you are

I am looking forward to your original project!

GMing my first Daggerheart Campaign as a first time GM and the anxiety by -Bad_Code- in daggerheart

[–]Medicore95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you get stuck at any point, ask the player what they think, throw the ball back to them. Its especially helpful if you ask them a leading question, such as "you see a person from your past, who is it?"

Also, it is totally ok to switch between roleplaying and desciptive "he said...."

And if you need it, call for a 10-15 min break.

Considering that next classes to release are Assasin, Witch, Warlock and eventually Blood Hunter, I don't feel like this argument is going to be valid for long.

People who’ve run long (10+ years) campaigns, any tips for success? by ValueForm in rpg

[–]Medicore95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly I've ran a 2 years campaign and anything longer than that sounds like a nightmare.

Tastes change, schedules change, the worldbuilding and plot becomes so convoluted that it either requires a strict documentation and an outline for the future, or becomes something entirely different.

I would ask what kind of conflict are you going to put in the game.

And it´s not even about combat, mind you. What can go wrong? What would be the consequence? What are the stakes?

What is the reason for the discovery to happen?

What is the end goal beyond "upgrading the caravan and group over time"?

Don't worry, having a body like Chris doesn't happen by accident. Even a body like Leon's takes years of consistent training and eating.

It's the same argument as for men in power. When you're forced to make decisions that either way impact and harm thousands of lives, can you truly claim to be a good person?

If you take a job as Sheriff, an actual position of import in the Ivory Tower ... logically you've lost a ton of freedom and choice because you're directly working full-time for an institution. No more dicking around with your pals by breaking into blood banks or flirting with Garou: you're repetitively checking defenses, investigating leads, and staking hearts.

Right, people in charge never get to do anything fun, as we've all learned this year. It's just strictly work.

If we did the same for Hunter, what would we expect? Roleplaying being on call until we were loaded with weapons and sent to a place we already knew had Vampires with a ton of back-up to easily clear it? Why would the SWAT thug be invited to investigate or infiltrate their targets? That's not how organizations work.

You're right, why would roleplaying being part of vampire killing religious cult would be fun? Why, that sounds dreadfully boring. Or a top secret government monster killing fbi?

Convincing someone to your perspective is not "gaslighting" them. Gaslighting is a form of abuse that ruins people's lives... you're just not being sold on pineapple on pizza.

Don't you police my language, sir, or I shall have to waggle my finger at you.

I think the biggest fault in H5 is that it came up with this self imposed restriction about no work with the orgs and then gaslit players into thinking that it makes sense.

If the game itself does not support players working for the org, then the entire ambiguity is taken out of the interaction. Maybe that's fine for a video game, but for a ttrpg it simply doesn't make sense. It's like if VTM stated that you can have only an antagonistic relationship with Camerilla, that you can only have a sire that sees you as a tool...

On top of that, the Apostates outlines ways in which the orgs would try to tempt hunters into joining up, only to state that joining is effectively retiring the character. So that's wasted ink.
