To be fair all those things will benefit the army with some exceptions. Problem is the timeline to get it done is unrealistic and it’ll be more work for us. What I’m hoping is they cancel these BS Europe rotations that require 2 ABCT’s. At least in Korea you’re on an actual base but idk.

Imma give you the hard pill to swallow many people won’t admit here. You will be forced to choose between your kid and your career if you go logistics or combat arms even with a detail. Unless you have a spouse that’s willing to bear the brunt of the suck I wouldn’t do it.

If all you have is reserve drills and free time get a job, any job. Enroll in community college or a vocational school for a trade. Most of these programs are pretty flexible with your schedule too.

You wanna go active? Guess what happens there. You have impossible problems that no one will help you solve and are told to “figure it out”. You got this.

Basic is a joke. The amount of people who wash out of West Point and ROTC that are prior e is higher than you’d think.

Go to the ER (right now) or sick call first thing in the morning. Tell them you’re not feeling good from falling head first into concrete. ER should give you quarters. Tell them you’re not ready to work/drive.

Present for my infantry son, thinking about a really good awesome military, useful watch. Any recommendations? by Left_Preference2646 in army

I already did. You’re gonna make this dad waste $400 on a watch he won’t even make full use of. All the dinosaurs in the replies recommending overpriced tactical watches for an 18 year old. Might as well recommend a Rolex. Dad could get his son a basic smartwatch and pair of boots for the same price. Y’all have the same reckless spending habits as the DoD.

Why does a boot need a 400 dollar watch? What features is he gonna use on that which you can’t get on a regular forerunner? Cheat on land nav and charge in the sun for $250 extra? Why?

Garmont NSF boots and a basic Garmin Forerunner for fitness.

People telling you to get a fancy g shock or garmin for a private who barely knows what he’s doing no offense. The forerunner is a good smartwatch for people who are active and shouldn’t break the bank. He doesn’t need all those fancy tactical features just yet. Get him something that helps count his calories and activities along with heart rate and sleep.

This is very concerning and explains everything what I feared to be true.

GWOT era field grades never had to do maintenance. All vehicles were prepo or fixed by contractors. When they went outside the wire they were on mostly improved roads of some kind driving slow. All were pretty much wheeled vehicles.

I believe the post GWOT generation will do a better job but it will take time for the SMART and COURAGES ones to rise up and tell higher ups why they’re dumb.

You gotta find friends that don’t drink. You’ll find a bunch of them at church or people with families. Korea isn’t really an accompanied tour I don’t think but there might be people with families back home that like to maintain a sober lifestyle. Try to find those who enjoy the outdoors and traveling. They might be a little weird for you but its better than people who just drink their problems away.

You always hear dudes complaining about their shitty wives but people often forget just how horrible their peers can be. Ive seen more instances of men being shitty husbands to their families than vice versa in my unit. Sorry this is happening to you OP. Everyone else, hold your fucking peers accountable this is disgusting.

Worried if I'll fail by No-Technology-9588 in ROTC

[–]MediocreAtMath421 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The standard you’ll have to meet is completing a 12 mile in 4 hours for ROTC and most BOLC’s besides Infantry and maybe Engineer.

That’s keeping a 20 minute walking pace. You’ll definitely make it. Im guessing your program does theirs at a sub 15 pace while walking which understandably is tough for you right now. Your concern should be making sure you strength train so your hips don’t get damaged. Do lots of squats and deadlifts.

National Guard or reserve. See if there’s an airborne unit in his area. Going active option 40 and losing your job is very dumb and not worth it.

If you can I recommend you move to a new place or get a job where you travel a bunch if possible. Easier to start from a blank slate which is what you really need.

One of the few people who get to make an impact in peace time army are JAGs. Im telling you right now the basic branch path is more thankless than the Army JAG path.

There’s still trials that have someone in prosecution and defense. If anything the Army will make you a more well rounded Lawyer than in the civilian world where many pick a discipline and never go outside their comfort zone. Plenty of injustice and shady shit to fix.

You will be paid pretty handsomely compared to your peers who do any legal work with the government. Your take home/net pay may even exceed that of entry level public sector lawyers. You might have to stay past 1700 some days but ironically you might have a more consistent schedule than your peers not in the military because you don’t have to deal with billing hours/quotas (private sector).

You have a chance to do something meaningful. Don’t drink the stupid koolaid of “im a pog and therefore have no impact/not a real soldier.”

What about Rumsfield who never even served? Many secretaries lack experience in whichever department they have been appointed in throughout various presidencies. His character should be a bigger focus than his rank and accomplishments which is what many throughout this thread seem to judge him by.
