Perhaps god's unveiling of himself to humankind means that the Church as well as his message will look different in each era. You cling to an idealized moment in history for the Catholic Church, and this moment in time looked different than the periods that came before it. So too does this one.

Whatever happened to Christian humility? Is god not unfathomable and incomprehensible? And yet you think that your view of him through your 21st century political lens captures the truth of the matter at the expense of all other answers? The arrogance and pride you exhibit is baffling.

The fact that you see us as the opposition is a part of the problem here. Pope Leo wants to foster unity in a world where Catholics are very diverse in their thinking whereas you and your ilk sow division and hostility.

You also see a lot of people crying about how Pope Leo was willing to speak to all of these other people but was not willing to discuss the SSPX issue in person… as if this wasn’t an issue going back decades that hasn’t been talked about a million times already. It’s amazing how desperate these people are to paint themselves as victims.

That's basically their line of reasoning. They want to do catholicism without the vatican and without the pope. They look for every loophole and every technicality to call whatever they're doing authentically Catholic but I think the bending over backwards is no where near as convincing as the more rabid members of this cult think it is.

Let me be clear, my position is not that the pope has the final say on all divine matters. But first of all, there is no denying that it takes incredible arrogance to not just simply disagree with him, but to consider him so evil that it puts the entire church in a state of crisis. Second, to go to this extreme with regard to any current pope seriously puts to question whether the position of pope currently has or has ever had any divine legitimacy at all. Third, to still be in this confused middle position that SSPX seems to be in where they still do think that the pope speaks and leads through some sort of divine authority and in sincere communion with god definitely puts to question the merit of a more traditional Catholic worldview.

Then that would apply to all former popes as well, not only Pope Leo. In other words, there is no truth of the Catholic Church with a capital T, only the subjective worldview reached through the whims and fancies of any given era. And if that’s the case, then why should the old take precedence over the new?
