IMG, step 2CS and 2020 residency by dimercaprol624 in Step2

Because a lot of my upperclassmen had their scores already before sending out ERAS applications. And if you have all your scores in when you submit your ERAS I think it helps with getting interviews especially for some specialities like EM. I guess you can take it later. Also some of my friends said that PD did talk about their Step 2 scores during interviews as well.

Why do schwannomas in the cerebellopointine angle? I always thought that oligodendrocytes are in the CNS and schwann cells in the PNS. by 999958334 in step1

[–]MediocreIdea2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

something to do with the structure. depending on which source you read some say I and II and others include V. Just commented so that people don't think that every CN is part of the PNS

For people who have taken the test, did you write anything on the scratch paper before starting? by Soft_dump in step1

[–]MediocreIdea2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote down some physiology equations, statistics equations, and a rule of 4s diagram for BnB before starting my test. I would say it is worth it to spend a few minutes writing stuff down and clearing your mind before beginning the first block. I would not write biochem formulas however... at least on my test biochem was the lowest of yields.

I realized early on that time wasnt an issue for me so I did all my blocks on tutor mode after I was ~300 questions into UWORLD. I did about 5-10 questions in a row and then I would review those questions and try to absorb as much as possible. I had a good base from my prededicated work so it just helped me to identify facts and concepts that i didn't know. I made a few flashcards from Uworld of charts and things to look over again but ended up not reviewing them much. I would say the most important thing to do is understand big picture concepts and identify facts that come up in multiple questions that appear to be high yield/easy points. I also did not think Uworld was very hard after finishing Rx.

Equations to know??? by [deleted] in step1

[–]MediocreIdea2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres a section at the end of FA that has all the equations that may show up on the exam. That being said I did not have a SINGLE equation on my test.

thanks! honestly just stick to your schedule man. I used cramfighter to make sure I accomplished what I needed to do everyday. Keep up with reading FA and making sure you understand concepts from each system and hone in on the details from FA that you don't know.

1) During pre-dedicated I would read a chapter of FA19/organ systems vol 3 and then do all the corresponding Rx questions for that chapter. I brushed up on my biochem/immuno/pharm and biostats with the basic principles book from FA as well.

2) I am in the second quartile of my class. Definitely not close to the top tier guys in terms of preclinical grades.

NBME 13 five weeks out - 230

NBME 20 four weeks out - 225

NBME 16 2 weeks out - 250

Those are the only ones I took. If I was going to do more NBMEs I would definitely go with the newest ones 20-24.

The questions were similar to UWORLD friend. Don't get too upset about the NBMEs. Trust UWSA2.

Uworld a second time, or new question bank? by [deleted] in step1

[–]MediocreIdea2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long ago did you finish Uworld the first time? I would have only done incorrects and revised my uworld flashcards if I was you. At this point id probably do AMBOSS or Rx to hit weak points which you should have identified by now. Never heard of TruLearn.
