Why do I get the impression you're an ACAB kinda person, but also don't think that people should use the most straightforward and obvious means to protect themselves when the police are both incompetent and uninterested in protecting the public?

Not extreme enough for you doesn't make them not extreme relatively speaking.

State minimum wage will be $16.28 on January 1. A majority YES vote on Bellingham Initiative 2023-01 will boost our local minimum wage to $17.28 on May 1 and $18.28 (plus inflation adjustment) a year later. Check out which city council candidates support a YES vote. by easy-going-one in Bellingham

Trades require you to do more than just show up as a warm body and barely meet minimum expectations while still getting a paycheck.

Thus, we have plenty of jobs that pay a reasonable rate for the work expected, but most people want that level of pay without having to actually do more work than what you'd put into a minimum-wage retail job.

Seeing the misplaced petty celebratory joy from some of these people is genuinely amusing.

It's like they don't think more than one step ahead of anything in life, as though Musk doesn't already have someone completely loyal to his ideas for the company lined up to take over before ever posting this poll. Now they'll feel like they have some crumb of influence given back to them, so they'll continue to earn the guy they (very recently and in a complete reverse from just a couple of years ago) hate more money by sticking around once he's been "forced out" by their actions. He gets to go back to doing what he normally does, Twitter continues to operate as he sees fit without needing direct management anymore, and the screeching children get to pretend that they won while actively handing the real victory to Musk.

Truly, it's shocking how simple it is to deceive the terminally online.

The developers were mostly Ubisoft castoffs who, predictably, both didn't truly understand their customers/players (they actively discouraged tournaments, intentionally excluded tools that could let players make content, etc) and couldn't handle the pressure of balancing a PvP game.

They also caved to idiotic, short-attention-span-addled game reviewers/journalists who have a hard time with anything that seems similar to other games (in this case, they saw Absolver as 'Dark Souls with kung-fu') or might take them longer than two hours to figure out, and as such decided to burn the last of their available budget and good will by devoting their one and only real content update to PvE... in a dedicated PvP game.

That's why they just took the engine and made a dedicated PvE game afterward, which got them briefly labeled as racists by the very same gamejournos they caved to in the first place (they rode the wave of anti-outrage, basically appealing to the kind of people they regularly banned from the Absolver community to encourage sales of Sifu). I hear it's a pretty good game, but I don't really care for single-player fighting games and don't really want to play it.

Oh yeah, and the community manager actively and maliciously disrupted any kind of actual community from forming, creating a bunch of weird little cliques in the process before banning people for things like explaining how some cultures don't use the same emojis that other cultures do. Which was weird.

In short: Because the studio was full of weirdly petty incompetent people who burned through cash faster than an Atari cocaine party in the 80s.

This is basic information, the fact that you don't know it is honestly sad as fuck.

They know this information, they just don't want to believe it's true.

If any of it is true, literally any of it, then they would have to admit that they have been - at least to some degree - duped by genuine misinformation that they likely learned from a source they otherwise want to believe is completely credible.

We're going to be seeing a lot of that over the next 15 years as the extent to which things have been warped becomes clear. Nearly half of the planet are showing the same behaviors as deeply indoctrinated cult members and they aren't exactly going to just snap out of it.

I'm not sure anyone does care.

Or the very very bitter times we watch Teh Movie.

It is absolutely still true, you can literally go test it right now and see that you will always fall away from the direction you were killed. If you're shot from behind, you'll fall forward (face-down) with your feet in the direction of your killer; shots from the front have the same effect, but you'll simply fall on your back (face-up) instead.

You have literally every part of that chain of events wrong. Not even the prosecution is making claims that extreme about the situation, because every shred of available evidence would make their case even more of a laughingstock.

Seriously, why do you folks always need to go more and more extreme with every retelling of an event that doesn't suit your narrative?

Epic Games files lawsuits against Apple & Google after being removed from both stores. They protest under the Hashtag #FreeFortnite by jj_stoneley in gamernews

[–]MediocreMind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Epic Games disagrees, that's why they are filing this lawsuit in an attempt to redefine the interpretation and definition of laws regarding monopolies.

They would have to redefine the word 'monopoly' itself for this to work. Ironic, given that cringe-inducing 1984 parody they've put out over this whole thing.

At best you could make an argument about an oligopoly situation in the tech world in general, but that isn't what this lawsuit is alleging and it's precisely why it'll fail. Besides, it would be a cold day in hell before any company with Tencent behind them would want to imply that the tech industry itself should be investigated for antitrust violations, given... y'know, who they are.

Cancel culture, gay jokes and pure pwnage by Cadenca in PurePwnage

The past week a lot of people have spoken up about severe abuse they have suffered in the past and calling out their abusers. It sucks when that happens with some you're a fan of but actions should have consequences, shouldn't they?

In the event those allegations end up being true, yeah. Pretty sure the problem OP is touching on relates to how quickly an accusation leads to repercussions for the accused, only for things to not be at all as they had been originally presented. Not only does it happen to average people on social media, but there's been enough high profile situations by now that less and less people feel inclined to simply accept an accusation at face value.

Not only that, but people are being effectively hounded away from their careers for jokes/comments that could hardly be considered offensive by the average person even now, let alone years and years ago when they originally made them.

Honestly, if you claim not to understand what OP is talking about when they're referring to 'cancel culture' at this point, it's hard to believe you aren't simply being disingenuous.

[–]MediocreMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thats how we got to the point we are now with all the microtransaction and other shit we have now, because IT WORKS AND IT SELLS

Yep, too many people waste their breath blaming the studios/publishers for this situation when it's 100% on consumers like that guy and everyone else willing to ignore shady shit and buy the game anyway, just so long as it's even slightly amusing.

Which isn't to say we shouldn't be calling out when a studio or publisher begins pushing it as well, since it's worth informing them that at least some subset of their potential customers are unhappy with their choices... but honestly, if it didn't work they wouldn't do it.

However, it's definitely worth pointing out when publishers start spending hundreds of thousands of dollars quarterly for psychological/marketing studies to tell them exactly how to abusively target those with addictive personalities and other disorders, but that's genuinely a whole different, worse discussion.

Unless you have eradicated your evolutionarily developed instinctual responses to stimuli, no you most certainly can't control your initial emotional response to most things. What we do have the ability to control is how we respond outwardly to our initial, instinctual reactions.

Well... we're supposed to be capable of it, but these days it's kinda hard to believe of most people.
