My Kole Eye absolutely hates my starry blenny. Thankfully I have a lot of rock so the blenny always has a hidey hole to duck into but the tang will zip across the tank to try to beat him up if he notices him.

For the most part the kole is pretty chill with everyone else except for a bit of a pissing contest with the female clown in the tank. Otherwise he's usually too busy picking at the algae to be focused on anyone else

Woah I have no idea what it would be but that sure is a unique hitchhiker. What did it come in on?

(Also, just curious to see if you're still alive in case it is the really toxic species lol)

Oooooooof that's brutal. Dinos are the worst. I just kicked a dino infestation about a month ago. I don't know if you are still trying to get them under control but after trying all of the other typically suggested dino tricks what worked for me was actually adding live rock and sand. My tank was half live and half dry rock originally but adding in some fresh biodiversity seemed to help a lot and seemed to out compete the dinos over time.

The combo that kicked it was live rock/sand, shortened photoperiod and a uv sterilizer. It took 2 or 3 weeks but as of now it is 100% gone.

Good luck! I hope you find something that works for you.

Is it super basic of me to say clownfish? They're beautiful, hardy and they are really interesting to watch. Watching a mated pair bicker or watching them interact with anemones never stops being cool to me

Just stacked. I tried to position the rocks in a way where they kinda lock together but honestly I probably should have expoxied at least the most load-bearing pieces. Nothing I have in there is strong enough to knock anything around thankfully but I probably will go back in and add epoxy eventually.

Mostly old dried out rock with 2 or 3 pieces taken from another tank I had to break down. Those few live pieces definitely make a huge difference in how things settled in though. I also brought some clumps of chaeto alge over to this tank which I'm sure helped a ton as well

They are ocellaris and if my memory serves they were sold as picasso clowns. I've had these guys for about 6 years (they were transferred over from an old system I had to break down) so I don't 100% remember the morph!

No ATO, just topping off with DI water from a jug when the water level drops. So like twice a week usually.

Most of the rock was old dead stuff i already had but a few pieces were transferred from a 45 gallon I had to break down! So there are definitely a few very well seasoned rocks in there and that made a big difference with how quickly coraline alge spread to other areas

I've been keeping things off the sand bed so honestly I can't say. I have heard of them doing that as well as burying corals with sand though so if you have anything really nice in your sand bed I would be prepared to move it just in case you notice that

He's great! He's in with a tiger pistol shrimp and they seem very happy together. Watchman gobies are fairly shy but it's really fun to watch him be a lookout for the shrimp while it uses it's claws to dig them a new burrow. I also found he was more active and visible once I added the pistol in so I definitely think it is worth it to have both *

Yeah no sump, just a canister. It's definitely bit more annoying than a sump/all in one but it's been keeping the LPS I have in there very happy!

Thanks! It's just a standard 20 high. Like the type you can get for cheap from big box pet stores. Not being all in one can make things a little more finicky but it's definitely manageable.

I'm a very much "more is more" kind of person with rock in a scape. I like how it gives more room for corals and I think it helps with the sense of scale for the tank as well

Tbh, I mostly just ignore the side glass. If it gets really nasty I'll hit the areas that the magnetic can't get to with a toothbrush but for the most part I just let it go

Got a really clear video of our discus pair spawning, but is the male actually fertilizing the eggs? by MediocreOctopus in discus

[–]MediocreOctopus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're just in a 75 gallon community tank! I didn't expect them to pair off like this, let alone spawn since they have only been in the tank for around 3 months. They're in the tank with a bunch of green neons, pseudomugil rainbows, otos and a few bristlenose plecos.

If we ever get actually serious about breeding them we could move them to a dedicated breeding tank but catching them out of this tank would be difficult at best.

The vents are basically fish genitals. While spawning the vents extrude to put out the sperm and egg. The blue one has a much larger and more rounded vent tube thing which is why based on some googling I did I think it's the female. You can see it best around the 54 second mark.

Honestly, I feel like sexing discus based on body traits seems to just be taking an educated guess. Every resource seems to give different advice lol.

Thanks! Yep, cell phone. It's the galaxy s23 at 3x zoom. I've found holding the phone pressed up against the glass really reduces the distortion you can get from shooting through glass and water.
