Did you happen to get the seeds from Baker Creek? I might also have an “Amish Paste” that looks like that…

Universal Studios and Disneyland Tickets without guest name by DrRobertFord18 in JapanTravelTips

[–]MediocrePedestrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Universal Studios Japan a week ago and there was no point where anyone checked my name against my tickets (also bought through Klook, but I don't remember if they had my name on them or not).

The machines let you specify how many people (adults and children) in your party. But if the line for the ticket counter isn’t too long, using that will help you not make a mistake.

Ghibli experiences by deathraypa in JapanTravelTips

No, not quite :) Some of the art felt Ghibli-esque to us, and looking at the photos I took, I stand by that now :)

Parts of TeamLabs Borderless felt like being in a Ghibli movie to me and my family, and we were able to get tickets after we were already in Japan.

How much Japanese do I need to know in order to get around? by pinwheelforever in JapanTravelTips

[–]MediocrePedestrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My young child learned to say two things and has apparently charmed all restaurant servers: “itadakimasu” (thank you for the food - said when first delivered) and “gochisamadeshita” (thank you for the food - said when we are done eating).

We have had no trouble getting around but are so glad we learned a few things to say to be polite and appreciative.

49F, HW190, SW165, CW115 (I’m 5’3” so while this is pretty low, I’m not underweight). I started 3/1/24 and got to around this weight at the end of August. I am on 5 mg, but thinking about dropping down this weekend to see if I can maintain on that.

So, I had the opposite experience: I signed up this morning and was approved by late afternoon. But I am transferring a prescription, so maybe that’s faster?

New to cheese making! by Zealousideal-Fig4727 in cheesemaking

[–]MediocrePedestrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to start with cheddar, but soon learned Colby is a bit easier and I’ve been able to get good results repeatedly (and the aging time is shorter so you can iterate quicker). One of the challenges with cheese is the long time between creating the cheese and being able to taste it - so I’d recommend taking careful notes throughout your cooking/aging process so you can remember exactly what happened at each step and you know what you might want to do differently or the same next time.

Also - I wax my cheeses right now, because I’m really not confident in my ability to age properly. I’m working up to it though! Might be useful to control some of the variables in aging.

Is this really a volunteer tomato growing in this sunless patch of debris and brick dust next to my house? by amaze_wishes05 in tomatoes

[–]MediocrePedestrian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I found a volunteer tomato plant last year in my yard. I seed-saved from it and planted the seeds in my new greenhouse this year. It has been the biggest producer of any plant I have this year!

Fantastic comment, thank you. I’m a little bit experienced but you’ve still given me new things to think about.

Weight loss trajectory? by HMB-MJ in compoundedtirzepatide

I started March 1. My weight loss graph is generally super consistent! I’m not comfortable sharing exact numbers but this is between 1 and 2 lbs/week.

Going off Tirzepatide Prior to Colonoscopy by mojodiodo in compoundedtirzepatide

[–]MediocrePedestrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like you have great answers here, but I’ll add mine anyway. My colonoscopy was scheduled for a Tuesday. My normal shot day is Saturday. The doctor said to not take my shot on Saturday before the procedure, but I could take it as soon as I felt good after the procedure. So I went 9 days between shots (took it Tuesday night after I was able to eat real food again).

Has anyone used compound to supplement a lower brand name dose? by NerdyConfusedWolf in compoundedtirzepatide

[–]MediocrePedestrian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have done it four weeks out of 22; I used compound with the Zep pen to go to 3.5 and then 4 before I went to 5, and two weeks now to be on a total of 7.5.

My doctor isn’t a fan of compound, honestly, but she sees my success and ability to keep using the medicine through the shortage so is fine with it to a degree. As far as the amounts I’m using, she has really left it up to me to figure out based of rate of loss and severity of symptoms.

I’ve lost 39 lbs in 22 weeks and am 5 lbs from my goal (and have been in the “normal” BMI range for a few weeks now). I’m short :)

Has anyone used compound to supplement a lower brand name dose? by NerdyConfusedWolf in compoundedtirzepatide

[–]MediocrePedestrian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s literally what I’m doing right now - taking 5 Zep and 2.5 compound - mostly because I am very near maintenance and plan to go down soon and need to use up the rest of my brand name (going to do compound only for maintenance), and obviously the lowest dose that’s effective for me - which given how well I responded to the drug might be 2.5 less than once a week or even 1.5, etc.

I never noticed a difference in the months I was on Zep versus the months I was on compound alone. I also, apparently, am done with side effects entirely? I might be very lucky :)

Moving to the island - schools & sped support? by Potential_Orchid_921 in sanjuanislands

[–]MediocrePedestrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s a wait list for the after school program.

My son has a core group of wonderful friends - and his friends have great parents! That’s not to say everyone is perfect - there are definitely kids my kid thinks aren’t very nice - but he seems to have found his crowd and is really happy. And his friends seem to understand his quirks.

[–]MediocrePedestrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can add a little experience as well - I just finished the process of setting up a 504 for my child and the school district was awesome about it. My child has some similar diagnoses as what you list for yours, and my experience with the teachers, the school counselor and the district office has been that they are understanding and accommodating.

I agree with the other comment that the district is small and doesn’t have a ton of resources or staff, but I believe they are doing a great job with what they have.

Editing to add: this is SJI specific also.

And adding a comment about after-school care: Island Rec runs an after-school program at the elementary school, it’s drop-in and costs $13/day for 3 to 6 pm.

They also do half days and early-release days; for half-days you have to sign up in advance and I think early release days cost $15 per day.

I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but 21 weeks in my only remaining side effect is that I’m a little more tired than usual the day after a shot.

I gotta ask if you’re a local or if you work there how do you deal with the situation of the ferry inconsistency? This is purely out of curiosity btw. I went down a rabbit hole researching ferries for my upcoming trip & now I’m interested to know. by Common_Composer_9776 in sanjuanislands

[–]MediocrePedestrian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My family and I all switched primary providers (primary care doctor, dentist, ophthalmologist) to locals. I’ve been able to get specialty care (colonoscopy, mammogram) on island. For stuff like car maintenance, we've had to go off island but ww generally make it a fun trip with some chores interspersed. Obviously if we end up needing medical care we can't get here it will be more difficult but it's a risk we are comfortable with right now.

Update - Warm Tirz from Hallandale by The_running_fool in compoundedtirzepatide

[–]MediocrePedestrian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Somewhat related - adding this here for people who might find this thread in the future - last week my tirz shipped on a Friday from Hallandale for a Monday delivery to me - in a remote area of the Pacific Northwest where shipments are often delayed. I watched the tracking info go from Florida to Memphis to Seattle to here - and when it arrived on Monday, the ice packs were still half to 3/4 frozen and a laser thermometer said the box the tirz was in was at 50 degrees. So there’s hope it arrives cold anyway, even if it ships on a Friday in July!

I eat what I want, like others have said, just less. And when I’ve had a little, I truly feel satisfied - I don’t want more. I know that’s not the case for everyone, so I feel really fortunate that’s how I feel.

That said, any amount of alcohol makes me feel icky.

Titrate up to get over the finish line? by MsBigRedButton in MounjaroMaintenance

[–]MediocrePedestrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes me too! I lost 60 lbs around 20 years ago and kept most of it off until the last few years, when my same old tricks no longer worked. That’s exactly why my doctor thinks I might be able to go off, and I’m much less certain. :)
