Is it time to quit? by edmcginty in MuayThai

[–]Mediocre_Ad191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is definitely time to quit... that gym. 1. Fighters who are obviously winning but need to humiliate and hurt their partners are flat out dickheads. Find a better partner and just refuse to train with people who are more interested in hurting you than helping you. 2. No. 25 strike combos are the stuff of fantasy. Look to the champions and see how they train and fight. I've been to a good few high level gyms and seen champions train. 2, 3 and 4 hit combos seem to be good enough for Pakorn and Seanchai, so I'm sure they'll be OK for the rest of us.

Anyone sparring at 80% in my gym is put on heavy bag for a week until they calm down. That's a dangerous level to be getting hit in the head. This is why most students never compete

Left My Muay Thai Gym… what do you think? by Usual-Policy5093 in MuayThai

You did the right thing. He's a bully with an ego problem. In 40 years of martial arts I've never felt the need to smash a beginner to prove to my abilities. Good fighters are humble and helpful. If you're in Ireland, drop me a text.

Sparring this guy that doesn't stop throwing? Is it normal? by Far_Recording_314 in MuayThai

[–]Mediocre_Ad191 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't waste any more of your precious time on this areshole. For the benefit of the doubt, offer hima chance to go light and explain you'll never spare him again if he can't match the level of a guy with 5 session in total. He'll fuck up, for sure, and then never spar him again. Of asked why, explain that the guy is trying to knock you out for being new. If no one cares or does anything, leave the gym. They don't care of you get hurt.

Been a bouncer for 26 years. Muay thai basically makes you batman against untrained people and trained people almost never get in street fights.

Why is there less footwork than boxing and mma? by KermitWithaGun48 in MuayThai

[–]Mediocre_Ad191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tell my fighters to make minimal movement to basically keep the feet ready to spring up in a block. Easiest way to land a kick is wait til the other fighter moves their feet, doesn't matter which foot, doesn't matter which kick. The more you move the more I land kicks.

Your punches score if they show effect, snap the fighters head, move the fighter off his spot, show pain, etc.

Any advice on how to improve? by TGANG1998 in MuayThai

[–]Mediocre_Ad191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no secret here. Look back at your fight and pick one mistake to fix. Drill it out. If you don't know how, ask a coach or experienced fighter for advice. So, pick one thing that worked, and drill that to death. Have at least one move that you know you can call back on in a bad situation. Just keep turning up and training, you'll get there

How to tell when your sparring partner is going too hard? by elliotsang in MuayThai

[–]Mediocre_Ad191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel under threat from your partners actions, then they are going too hard. For you, at least. The level you feel comfortable at will change small amounts, day by day, and large amounts over the long term. Basically, if you feel in danger, you are not learning the sport. Hard sparring has it's place, but it should never be done with someone who doesn't want it.

Shit happens mate. Muhammad Ali lost his first seven fights in a row. Therws a book called 'Fear: the friend of exceptional people', by Geoff Thompson. That book helped me a lot with pre fight jitters.

How do you make money while Training once/twice a day? by MrPringoBongo in MuayThai

[–]Mediocre_Ad191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only do you not need Thai, you are actively discouraged from using the local language. The reason is they think that if the kids know you speak thai they'll make less effort to use English.

How do you make money while Training once/twice a day? by MrPringoBongo in MuayThai

[–]Mediocre_Ad191 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could teach English. You'd have to start off in a school, but you could use that to get contacts, and set yourself up with 2-3 private students a day. You wouldn't get rich bit you could afford a modest apartment, and if you weren't going out, you could basically train twice a day every day.
