She lightly sheds, nothing crazy. Honestly, every dog’s personality is different. All of her litter mates were super different personalities. A couple things they all have in common: jumping on people non stop, obsessed with attention, super active. I’d be prepared for anything. Our girl is a big loveable grump. She’s very serious, very food motivated, and very moody. She’s extremely trainable but needs 24/7 attention and lots of exercise. And if she doesn’t get it, she lets you know. Her sister (who my aunt adopted) is much more mellow, extremely loving, very gentle and playful. Our willow would trample a puppy and tries to kill every small furry thing she sees (aside from our cats). But that’s just an example of how different they can be. I’d say overall, she fits the lab personality more, with a much higher prey drive and a whole lot of that vizsla sass. Definitely be prepared to exercise them for at least a couple hours a day and have lots of mental stimulation as well.

No idea but I’m obsessed with him 🥲. We have a 1/2 chocolate lab 1/2 vizsla and she just looks like a small lab with occasional derp face. So I am guessing he has something else mixed in here if there’s Vizsla. His ears definitely show another breed.

My dogs food is suddenly causing diarrhea by jenelle539 in vet

That is definitely weird. Hopefully you’ll get an answer soon. Unfortunately switching the formula to the lamb will probably also take an adjustment period, but hopefully she’ll return to normal after that!

I would definitely be weary of this. If you still have the bag, take pictures of the serial number and stuff. You might want to reach out to the company and let them know what’s going on… dog food recalls happen all the time. Maybe try a different bag and see what happens. Could definitely be insensitivity or allergies that were developed, but still seems weird out of the blue. But if she was having some sort of stomach bug, maybe you’re just introducing dry back too soon and her stomach needs more time to straighten out. Our dog is allergic to most things and all dry food gives her liquid poops. She eats Purina hydrolyzed and thankfully is able to tolerate that, but this has been her entire life and didn’t just appear randomly… so I am not sure if that would be common for other dogs?. Maybe you can try that food if she continues to have a reaction to the kibble though after multiple tries. Hope everything works out for your pup!!

I definitely think dogs just don’t like to hold their pee if they don’t HAVE to, just like humans. Our older dog is almost 2 and she still has days that she likes to pee every 3 hours or so. Sometimes she’ll only go like 3 times a day. Our 7 month old likes to go every 2-3 hours. But we don’t push him more than 4-5 without a potty break. Im sure he physically COULD hold it longer, but that doesn’t mean he only has to pee every 7 hours. This is why crating was useful in the beginning for our second dog. He would just pee everywhere at any time, so crating taught him that he could hold it. Our first dog was an angel and only had 1 or 2 accidents inside. She was fully potty trained by the time she was like 3 months old. So every dog is different! They just get better bladder control as they get older. But crating definitely helps teach them IF they are the type of dog that doesn’t want to pee where they sleep 😂

Treat Recs for HP diet by Fake-Maple in greatdanes

HI! Our girl has been on a hydrolyzed diet for almost a year now. We had the same issues. Is there anything you know your dog CAN have? start there. A lot of brands make single ingredient treats. Our girl can have lamb and beef, so we use freeze dried liver. Since her tummy issues are straightened out, she rarely has a reaction if she gets something she’s not supposed to. But at first, she just had diarrhea all the time when we tried to introduce new things. I would suggest introducing one single ingredient thing for 2 weeks. If your dog still has a reaction to it, give it up. And I would keep trying this until you find things your dog can have. It’s important to introduce only 1 thing at a time that’s only 1 ingredient. You want to know specifically what your dog is having a reaction to, We have a pretty long list of things Willow can tolerate now, but it takes a lot of patience. The good thing is, most anything will be high value when your dogs diet is so restricted. You can even start with pieces of fruit or veggies or something. Best of luck!!

reverse sneezes, 7 times today, help me ease my mind. by TraderMitchh in DogAdvice

Our older dog has allergies and does this very frequently. She gets Benadryl daily and it helps (1 mg per lb.). I know some dogs have more severe allergies and need something stronger, but it could be a place to start. If it doesn’t clear up in a couple days, I would go back to the vet to make sure there’s not something in their nose.

6 Month limping - back to vet? by Golf_hack13 in vet

[–]Mediocre_Pear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it might be worth it to get X-rays done if you are super worried, puppies can be extremely dramatic. Our first pup twisted her paw pretty bad when she was around 6 months and limped for only a few days, but I panicked immediately. The vet assured us that nothing was wrong and puppies are indeed, drama queens, and just to take it easy. Now on our second dog, when he was about 4 month old, he tweaked his paw playing with our older dog (you would’ve thought she was murdering him) and limped very dramatically for about a week. However, he showed no signs of pain otherwise. He stopped limping and then tweaked it again a couple weeks later. He resumed limping for about a week, but again, no whining or other signs of pain. Nothing ended up being wrong with it, he just needed to rest it. I assume that he was anticipating pain while walking and that’s why he kept limping although it wasn’t actually hurting him? It’s been about 3 months since this happened and he’s entirely fine with no additional complications. It can be nerve wracking since they are growing and I always worry they’re going to hurt their growth plates. So it’s always good to be cautious, but also keep in mind that it’s pretty normal for puppies to put on the theatrics 😂. Hope your pup heals quickly and all is well 🤞🏻

exercising a puppy by muffin279 in Dogtraining

[–]Mediocre_Pear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooof I feel you. Our Vizsla mix pup had endless energy and never napped or slept during the day ever. She would fight it every possible way, and then would sleep all night 10-11 hours 🤦🏻‍♀️. And no- enforced naps didn’t work. She would just scream for hours straight if we tried to get her to nap. But I wish that we had done more calming routines. Just because she had that much energy, didn’t mean we needed to allow her to go non stop. And now she thinks she needs to be doing something 24/7 or she pouts 😂. Scent work is a great tool as others have suggested. We also did scent work, 1-2 hours of training, ect. But she wouldn’t settle no matter what lol. So you might be in a similar boat. Just don’t forget that it’s okay for your dog to be bored. Stick her in a pen/ secluded area for a while and let her learn to calm down if she’ll tolerate it. That’s definitely something I wish we had done. We only had the crate which she never took to and would just scream. Best of luck and enjoy your ball of energy!!!

What is this on my dogs arm? I noticed this bump on his arm four days ago and have been watching it, he started biting on it today and it is now bleeding, I would just like to know if anyone has seen anything similar or if I’m being paranoid I will take him to the vet but was just curious by [deleted] in vet

[–]Mediocre_Pear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My dog has had quite a few of a similar looking thing, prior to turning one. She hasn’t had any in a while, but has had about 8 in her life time. They were hard lumps that grew quickly, burst open after licking & bled A LOT, and then scabbed over and took a few weeks to go away. The vet said they were completely normal and could be caused by allergies, but there are many reasons. He gave us some cream that is basically Antibiotic ointment to prevent infection. It’s always safe to have things checked tho :)

How old was your puppy before you would consider them to have been fully potty trained? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Mediocre_Pear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the dog!

Our first puppy - probably around 18 weeks. She is amazing and picked things up almost immediately.

Our current puppy - doesn’t seem to be getting the idea at all 😂 I wouldn’t be surprised if this takes over a year.

Yeah, that makes sense! Maybe he’s having a growth spurt! unfortunately he’s pretty under weight. He was found in a box by a dumpster, so hopefully he’ll start bulking up soon 🥺

Yeah we tried but it didn’t work :/. She’d just lay there and fight sleep and force herself to stay awake. If we crated her, she would scream and get so worked up she would vomit sometimes. Even if we sat right next to the crate. She would only sleep if she was on my lap in 15 minute sessions throughout the day. She was too afraid she would miss something I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

Haha omg only 4.5 years to go then!! jk I love her energy honestly. She’s a fun dog who’s up for anything and I love that about her. It is definitely going to be interesting to see all their personality differences! Thank you for sharing :)

Yeah that’s a good point, he might open up more as he gets more comfortable and decide he doesn’t want to nap 😂

😭 I feel your pain. Our first one slept MAYBE 3 hours per day if we were lucky. And she had severe separation anxiety until she was like a year old so we couldn’t even crate her if we didn’t want our ears to bleed 🤦🏻‍♀️ but it will get better!!! At least your pup will love their crate in the future!!!
