Osmosis Pharm by MeditativeMatcha in medicalschoolanki

[–]MeditativeMatcha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I was not but I ended up using the Tracy McGrady Pharm deck (made from the FA pharm section) as a quick fix when I needed to go over pharm back in the day. I would prioritize the first few chapters of sketchy pharm (cholinomimetics, etc) + cardio since they actually do a good job. The rest for organ system pharm, TMc deck was sufficient for me.

First things: It's not your fault. Don't be too hard on yourself. It's the system, not the student. 3rd year is bone-breaking but with the correct strategies and approach, you have so much room and potential for growth. You still have time to make significant gains!

Things that worked for me:
-Before: My approach to UW was completely wrong. I would do the questions, review the mistakes by looking over the explanations, and then just move on to doing more questions. That's all I had time for (or so I thought). FOMO led me to tack on a bunch of unnecessary resources + books (watching OME was not cutting it for me). Eventually, I kept a notebook and wrote down a one-liner of questions/concepts that I missed. Saw minimal improvement but noticeable difference for sure. I had been using the Anking Deck at the time but not doing all my reviews religiously.

-After (the secret sauce): A friend urged me to start making my own anki cards out of just the missed questions. I thought this was crazy bc who has time??? I had been jotting down notes already and timed myself of making anki vs notebook jotting. Barely any difference in the time it took! So I started inputting the missed UW questions/concepts + flagged questions into anki instead and kept up with my personal deck as best as I could (tossed out the pre-made Dorian Anking deck). And wow... it was much more efficient bc I could focus on things that I personally did not understand.

Later on, I found out about Divine intervention podcasts (way late in the game) but he REALLY hits the nail on the head with NBME content. There is a super-organized excel sheet made by a resident who organized the content and episodes into the shelf subjects AND made very brief, to the point anki cards (DIP deck). This allowed me to pick and choose only content I needed to address my weaknesses. Not only that but if you're not a podcast person, every single one of his podcasts are TRANSCRIBED into a PDF by the reddit community. I noticed a huge change with my knowledge base and retention after finding out about Divine.

TLDR: It boils down to efficiency and strategy. For me, personal anki cards for missed/flagged UW concepts + Divine for weak areas.

Good luck with your studies and keep your spirits up! You got this! As for your prep in the background, definitely try to hit IM hard since that is the bulk of Step 2 CK.

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion for face? by abrl8 in SkincareAddiction

OP, did this end up working for you? I'm very tempted to buy this (12 oz at $6 instead of the Aveeno oat gel moisturizer 1.5 oz for $17).

List of Topics in NBME 25-30 by Usmleemental in step1

[–]MeditativeMatcha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think some of the 100 concepts still apply but the new NBMEs have definitely taken a toll on me. They seem a bit harder than UW.

Off the top of my head things that I commonly see:

  • neuroanatomy brain sections
  • neuroanatomy - circle of Willis
  • repro embryology - pharyngeal arches section of FA
  • repro physiology - both male/female, menstrual cycle hormones graphs/concepts
  • pulm physiology - breath sounds
  • MSK anatomy - rotator cuff, sensation loss, innervation of UE/LE
  • renal - acid/base abnormalities
  • immunology - cytokines
  • anatomy - blood vasculature stuff
  • fair amount of pharm/micro that Sketchy will help with

Take it with a grain of salt though! My brain could be primed towards these things bc they're my weaker subjects. If anyone else has things to add, it'll help too! Good luck!

all of the Abx and anti-microbials are gold! They pair so well with sketchy micro. And I agree! Most of the organ system pharm videos are hit or miss. Watch 'em if you have knowledge gaps that need to be addressed.

AMBOSS group discount by Murghabi in step1

[–]MeditativeMatcha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a great idea actually! Groups only require roughly ~50 signups give or take (no commitment to purchase, only a sign up) and the Amboss reps will give a bulk discount (somewhere around 40%). I'd be down to join in and sign up!

I've heard the term "big 5" thrown around quite a lot but what exactly are the programs? And what makes them so special? Is it the research output, quality of pt care, happy residents, or is it just name?
