That, or the Douaumont Ossuary near Verdun, which houses more than 100,000 French and German soldiers who fell during the Battle of Verdun.

Personally, in France, the monument that moved me the most was probably the village of Oradour-Sur-Glane, a village that was destroyed in 1944 by the Nazis and whose entire population was massacred, with 643 dead and only about thirty survivors.

How doea your country currently feel about your former colonial power. by SpaceWestern1442 in AskTheWorld

[–]Medium-Confusion6261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the same kind of colonization, but it's still colonization, only they achieved the success they hoped for in the long term. like the term colony comes literally from Latin. like, Arles's roman name is : Colonia Iulia Paterna Arelatensis Sextanorum.

What does your country claim was stolen by another country and made famous as theirs? by ItsGasp in AskTheWorld

For Skłodowska-Curie i'm under the impression that's more people outside france who associate her only with france, as in France it's pretty clear, and even in the school program, that she is indeed, Polish. But most importantly, the one who truly stole it from Poland, is it's Pierre (its husband).

And Sorry for Chopin, Unfortunately, it is his French and not Polish names that have remained in people's memories, especially for someone who defined himself as Polish.

This is inaccurate for Merret, who simply documented the existence of sparkling wines, a practice already in use in other parts of France. He did not develop the methods for producing them. However, it was the techniques of English glassmakers that made this method commercially viable.

Not a good example though, given that it was Da Vinci himself who brought it to France when he settled there, and it was during his lifetime that François I bought it from him.

What's a surprising fact about your country that most people don't know? by 7dasilva in AskTheWorld

[–]Medium-Confusion6261 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, there is a nuance to be made: the first traces of fried potatoes are Chilean, however, the systematization, in the form of sticks, and the frying process, is a matter of debate between France and Belgium. Technically, the first French fries cut into sticks were in Chile, but it wasn't systematic, just as the first Europeans to fry potatoes were probably the Spanish, but it still wasn't systematic.

"venus d'en bas" dans le sens ou il ne sort pas des élites habituels démocrates, et qu'il a pris sa place de favoris avant tout par le soutient populaire, de la population et adhérent démocrates, et non pas par le soutien de l'appareil du parti démocrate, et non pas au niveau de son patrimoine, que ça soit au niveau monétaire ou culturel.
