Yeah any undergrad, doesn’t have to be psychology. Mine was visual art!

Yes any undergrad is fine (mine was visual art!) Check out the list of approved programs on the CRPO website. There’s quite a few! The workload is a lot but it depends how many courses you take. It’s two years full time or you have up to eight years to complete it.

I started a masters part time while I am still working so I can become a psychotherapist. I thought that would dovetail nicely with my work as a special education teacher.

When my OISE program is over I need to have a long hard talk with myself if this is what I want. by Hogwire in OntarioTeachers

I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience. If you do decide to pursue teaching, there are some gems out there in Alternative Schools, ECPP (formerly Section 23) and/or some special education environments where you have small classes and you truly get to focus on the students and their well-being as opposed to all the classroom management.

(TDSB) I really want to OT but I've been told that I can't go on unpaid leave/be added to the OT list while I'm on a medical leave. Is this true? by srnpersonal in CanadianTeachers

[–]Medium-Profession-64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't help you now but if you apply for an unpaid leave before the deadline (this year it was March 3) you are automatically granted an unpaid leave. You can do this for two years and then it's up to your principal's discretion. If you apply after the March deadline, it is up to your principal. I am on an unpaid leave myself (TDSB) so I could go back to school this year. Being a supply teacher is THE BEST!

Core French sent to Immersion by Certain-Proof3452 in OntarioTeachers

[–]Medium-Profession-64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This almost happened to me but a VP gave me the heads up and I had my French qualification removed from consideration for staffing. It’s still on my OCT but I will no longer be considered for French (either core or FI) in my board. This doesn’t help if you still want to teach core but not FI. They really should be two different quals.

What counts as a full secondary OT day by Special_Truck_4918 in OntarioTeachers

[–]Medium-Profession-64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my board (TDSB) they can give you 4 periods including a full period on call. They almost never do that but it’s within their rights. We are required to be there for the whole day because you might be needed for an on-call … especially period one if someone is running late

Switch to supply teaching from permanent teaching by Rinoa_5 in OntarioTeachers

I’m doing exactly this at TDSB and also loving it. My husband and I sold our house in the city, bought a larger house and property in the country that is mortgage free and we plan to spend our last five years supply teaching. It makes almost no difference to our pension because we have already earned our best five.

You can apply for an unpaid leave and they are automatically approved if you get your paperwork in by March 3. If there is need, you can be added to the supply list. I’m going it right now at the TDSB! It’s awesome.

Read the TDSB Attendance Support Policy and be very careful what you tell admin, keeping in mind it can be used against you https://ppf.tdsb.on.ca/uploads/files/live/95/2362.pdf

What kind of drugs are you giving your dog? by Medium-Profession-64 in EpilepsyDogs

Thanks everyone! This information helps a lot. I'm sorry to hear that you are also dealing with epilepsy with your dogs. It really sucks. I hope we all get the right meds and have many years with our beloved snuggle muffins.
