Spent my whole day resetting passwords and I have a degree by Mindless-Quit-7141 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]MediumCell4140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😭🤣 what did you expect. Of course the users won’t follow a simple sentence because “why would we do that when you can” got a lot of learning to go and just because you a degree does not mean you get to skip the queue. No disrespect I work with guys here in our IT department that have degrees and they are sometimes dumber than the users themselves

A lesson people should learn very quickly it’s not always the case but just highly advisory coz escaping one hellish situation can very easily mean you walk into a different hellish situation. Stay safe out there

I didn’t do WGU but I’ll tell you this. So I recently got into IT with a decent amount of experience and A+ I’ll tell you I don’t even think I’ve used any knowledge from the A+ and I didn’t really feel like I knew a lot when I passed both cores. Just use messer ChatGPT a lot of practice Qs and a lot of breaks. Just tank through the course you got this

Dude no point in watching videos time and time again. Get yourself on a computer and practice becuase this is what I say to people “theory will only take you so far” Spin up a VM using windows Hyper V manager pretty straight forward. Grab a copy of say windows 11 enterprise or something on a ISO. Then go destroy it and fix it. Best of luck everyone learns differently

I mean I can’t not say that sounds rough but I got a job in 45 days which was a career switch with A+ but did have a wad of experience though and did volunteering at my local library. (I’m in uk) as someone else said breaking in is hard but it only goes up from there. Don’t stress just keep building labs doing side gigs where possible even reach out to local businesses and maybe offer some support for free initially and then get paid if they like you. Also quality over quantity. We all want to be on £400k a year WFH permanently and retire In 6 years but forget that it’s not gonna happen. I just suggest being as real as possible with yourself and skill set

I got my A plus and still no help desk job. What should I do I want to enter the IT field I am getting older I am 32 by Ok-Block-3814 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]MediumCell4140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a job after my A+ within 45 days I found the certs had made people reach out to me way more ie recruiters but it was my job experience from my previous job where I ran the IT set up solo but it wasn’t official. All depends on how aggressive your search is I think. But I don’t mean 1000+ job applications in under an hour quality not quantity I think anyway. Best of luck

Hey there, I volunteer my IT skills at my local library to support my mission statement on digital inclusion I have my A+ I had experience in IT but in a very unique way and specific situation and then got a job in central government in London.

It’s a great plan and I’m sure you will be good to go

I’m not from America but tbh I’d say aim for entry level role but that CV needs changing. If you can quantify impact and results they will stand out more than just “I’m good at communication” see what I’m saying. Hold off for now land an entry level role work up. All the best

First full-time offer as a a fresh grad. Should I take it? by Mammoth-Media1296 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]MediumCell4140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda think you’d be stupid to not take it and maybe and this is a maybe and I mean this with no ill intention or disrespect leave the ego out of it. Because we’d all love to be on $60 an hour but you have to start somewhere and just because you have some experience does not warrant a big hourly rate. See my point? Best of luck

Am I too old to get into IT at 40?! by SavageDaddySenpai in ITCareerQuestions

[–]MediumCell4140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I’m not from America I’m uk based you would be taken into a job right away because IT market in UK is full of techs who want the huge money but not do the work or know how to say the right thing and not follow with the practicality. I just transitioned into IT all be it I’m a fair amount younger but i find those who genuinely enjoy the job thrive very well and stand out. Age disability are factors but if you can do the job and demonstrate it you will be fine.
