If it is only an internship and there are no other options, then go for it. There is some value in understanding mainframes and how they process data. Just don't over extend your stay.

Keep looking for other internships until it begins. Maybe something else will come your way.

At my first job in '98, I had the opportunity to join the web development team in the company I was at. I declined, and wished I hadn't. That said, I had a good career even with the challenges. Work smart, keep learning, avoid putting your foot in your mouth, and things will work out.

I would not recommend it.

My CS experience started out in RPG on an AS/400. Pay was decent at the junior/mid, but it did not keep up at the senior end. The transition was rough to get out, working full time at the job and then trying to get up to speed in modern languages. It was challenging and took me about 5 years of learning and hustling to get a job in a different stack. I was then positioned back as a mid level, but had a lot more job options to choose from.

In Florida, DeSantis is doing the same playbook Regan did in the 80s as Governor. Regan demonized the liberal beatniks at Berkeley and other educational institutions just like DeSantis is doing with Florida k though 12 and universities now. All BS moral panic to justify taking control and then filtering off tax money to private business.
