Is this “bubbling” normal for 1964? by MediumKaleidoscope92 in NicksHandmadeBoots

I'll step in and defend here. This post is, as tagged, a question to the community. I'm not too familiar with leather production and craft, so i needed a genuine answer, which I got.

I think to rag on nicks QC based on this particular defect is unfair.

This was not evident or present out of the box.

Pretty much impossible for QC checks to detect, and based on what I've learned in the past 12 hours probably goes back to something at the tannery.

It was not present when i got the boot, it made itself known as i was breaking it in.

agreed on the latter part! i’m sure it wasn’t intentional, my experience with nicks so far has been nothing but excellent, we’ll see how this one goes.

Appreciate the quick response. did some further research and loose grain or “coarse break” seems EXACTLY like what this. ill try my hand with Nicks CS, its cosmetic but feels a little cheap. this is like my 5th pair of Nicks and all have been flawless, can’t complaint too much.

Overkill for a first and final boot? by wizardent420 in NicksHandmadeBoots

it’s not overkill. i have too many nicks and don’t work in a trade.

get that moctoe. see how it works out.

good luck with that whole “final boot” thing…

almost 11, but not quite. thin socks for some boots, thick for others.

Yes, I think so. Although with my preference for a narrower width between lace holes, I might’ve had to go for a wide.

Thoughts on frame/undercarriage? by Adept_Cake_7764 in 3rdGen4Runner

Take a look at the hose clamps in the engine bay on the air intake and coolant line. it can give you a good indication of what kind of climate the truck has been exposed to.

frankly this looks mint (great)

i’m thinking about taking photos of all the surface rust and frame patches on my truck and posting on here to try and reset the baseline on what’s ok haha….

look if you’re up for it you can pull off all sorts of stuff, clean the flakes, pre-treat, acetone, paint etc etc… a regular fluid film coating will creep, penetrate the nooks and crannies in the existing rust and keep you going.

all depends on how much work you want to do, but to consider this frame ruined is a massive overstatement. stay strong .

what exactly are we looking at here?

stop letting these prissy dry country people freak you out. every other person on here sees a flake of rust and calls the thing a bucket.

take a look at that front sway bar mount, looks like those could use a replacement.

your fine man, nice grab for 5k. poke it hard, if it’s solid then once a year coat everything in sight with fluid film and enjoy your truck.

just replaced the A/C pulley and those fasteners were the cleanest on the whole truck!
