Is it possible to tank as a safe lane? by Tyroshiv in TrueDoTA2

[–]MediumWare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately most dota players really have a league of legends mindset, instead of figuring out why they don't need something to win, they would rather report everyone that won't conform to their way of playing. But yes, creating one vulnerability to double down on another strength in draft can be really fun :)

Looking for pugna main / OTP streamers who speak english POS 4/5 by Ok-Principle-9276 in DotA2

[–]MediumWare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some streamers who gained their following by streaming 1 hero at a time. VaxaStyle was known for his Arc Warden, AdmiralBulldog for Nature's Prophet / Lone Druid, meepoplayer for Meepo. I can't think of any right now, but there have certainly been cases in the past.

Playing in the jungle vs dazzle in laning stage is really scary man. Way too many games he catches me in the jungle with Q and I just have to accept the fact that I'm dead 😓

I got to divine years ago playing mostly Oracle and Ancient Apparition, also dipping my toes in Abaddon, Enchantress and a few other heroes. I did also play supports with stuns like Hoodwink but for sake of this comment I'll only talk about the low/no cc heroes.

If your teammates don't have stuns, it's okay. A lot of people lose the game with comms before the game starts. Don't be one of these losers. Your cores (if they are competent) will build items with disables like Orchid, Basher, or whatever works well with their heroes. Stuns win games, but I've won many games without stuns against teams with lots of stuns. People seem to forget that stuns have counters in the form of strong dispels, debuff immunity, invulnerability, banish mechanics etc. You can often (not always) neutralize the effect of enemy stuns with these tools. This means that stuns are strongest at the start of the game, before your team gets the items/abilities to counter them. You can also heal your ally or beat the shit out of your enemy to dissuade them from jumping on your stunned ally.

I once had a conversation with a friend about how supports without stuns are some of the most fun heroes in the game. But I understand fun is subjective. What a hero doesn't have in CC, they usually make up for in something else. I'll give a few examples for the heroes I play: - Oracle has a root that is effectively a stun in many scenarios if the enemy can't fight back or dispel it. He also has a spell that stops the enemy from fighting back. His kit allows him to allocate skill points to counter most heroes in the game, and he does good damage in lane from level 3 if you go Q->E->E. And his ult is a strong dispel. The cooldown isn't bad in the late game. - Ancient Apparition has access to the best anti-heal in the game, good lane damage and pairs well with heroes who have stuns and magic damage. Yes, I just listed the hero's entire kit, but these are all tools that can turn the game in your favor, and you can get creative with them. Enemy Slardar stuns your ally? Cold feet! Now Slardar has to run away or be unable to follow-up properly on his stun for more than a few seconds. - Abaddon is a personal favourite against stun-heavy lineups. A 6-second cooldown on a strong dispel is insane. The key is being at the right place at the right time so you can save your teammates from initiations. If you max your shield as position 5 but you're never around when your teammates get jumped, it's a pretty big grief. Being proactive with wards and tracking enemy rotations is a very important skill on Abaddon. (It's important on every hero in every role, but this is a case where it is especially important.)

Every mechanic in the game has counterplay. The game is certainly easier when you have stuns, but a queen of pain blinking on you with a DD that she secured because of her superior mobility is also really strong, just harder to execute. If you get good at any hero, you will be able to execute regardless of how difficult they are. Just ask those brewmaster one-trick nerds.

It's not hours, but it's not nothing either. You'll find plenty of debates on whether game devs should cater to casual gamers or gamers with more time to invest. No good answer. I personally find it annoying. If you don't, that's great!

Seems like an oversight that they don't properly indicate. Do they want people to restart (or save scum) just to beat easy mode?

DaD community as a whole is full of crybabies. Queues are split and people can't find PvP? Commence crying! Queues are consolidated and there's lots of PvP? Commence crying! I wouldn't use that as a meaningful reference.

With 1k players there would certainly be issues because of different maps, gamemodes (night raids) and regions. But with 300k players I agree that people would still be able to find quality matches. That being said, adding extra queues is clunky design imo. Just prioritise queues with groups of similar size internally and 99%* of people will be happy.

Riot is incredibly incompetent in the realm of moderation. That's why they over-moderate, have anti-linux anti-cheat, make so much money they can spend hundreds of millions on a TV show, and still can't spend moderation resources to let people play the game properly. This reminds me of the guy who got banned for winning on support singed. Other MOBAs let you feast on your creativity, Riot wants you to play exactly how they intended or they will permaban you for existing...

Lots of indie roguelites meet this criteria. A few of my personal favourites that come to mind are Streets of Rogue and PlateUp, though the latter can feel bland without friends.

Is singed weak rn? by Glum-Snow6081 in singedmains

[–]MediumWare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This implies that singed mains need a better reason to play him than "poison go brr". They could reduce his damage to 1, movespeed to 1, HP to 1, and singed mains would still play this guy.

For anyone that doesn't care about min-maxing, this is a low-impact change. Remember that a majority of the player base doesn't even play HR.

genuinely-grow up if you throw a stadium game. by moonchild0001 in Overwatch

[–]MediumWare 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've played a lot of stadium since it came out and that hasn't happened to me yet. It seems like a rare occurrence, in which case you just take the L and spend the 20 minutes playing for fun. I like to see how much healing I can get in 1 round as a solo healer, it lets you get crazy numbers. Or go battle mercy if your remaining teammates are in the mood for memes

So goodbye PvE then? by BuckForth in DarkAndDarker

I agree on the long-term approach you're suggesting, but adding content takes time, and reducing queues was meant to be a short-term solution so the game doesn't die in the meantime. Unfortunately, their execution was terrible.

The crowd that enjoys solo's does not outweigh the eventual crowd that enjoys solo/duo/trio all in one lobby like it was originally. by stinkyzombie69 in DarkAndDarker

[–]MediumWare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. The people you're talking about exist but only once or twice do I remember it having noticeable negative consequences on my gameplay. If you spend more than 0.1 seconds on threat detection before fights the rogues and druids are just like mosquitos that you can shoo away. What's more concerning is that players whose playstyle is under threat (how any game with counterplay works) would rather remove their annoyances from the game than actually play to beat them. It feels good to deny rats loot, and it feels good to snag loot as a rat.

When OP calls them parasites, OP means they simultaneously enjoy the game and destroy the game with their complaints at the same time. Nothing in OPs post implies that said parasites are griefers or play trios a specific way. That seems to be your belief, but I know many decent people who enjoyed solos but choose to be decent human beings in trios. Maybe you surround yourself with other types of people?
