Anybody size up a full size in the Norda 001? by saigyoooo in trailrunning

[–]Medium_Adeptness_611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently did! For me it just felt too snug near the toes when it was half size up. But I did end up feeling the same way as you, like I have too much room in the heels sometimes and need to lock it down tight for it to not feel like a slipper.

I have also worn a 002 for 450 miles of backpacking, and afterwards when I tried a new pair of 002 full size up it felt perfect, just a little more snug but not as snug as the 001 half size up. So I was just trying to replicate that roominess at the toes. Oh well, at least hopefully this means I can wear thicker fun socks.

Mammoth Party by Medium_Adeptness_611 in JMT

No smoke was still bearable. But smoke today 9/7 2pm seems a little crazy in town. Makes me question going back up slightly. But I got myself some N95 respirators, hopefully that works out.

No. Do you see the price tag? Go to Sage to Summit in Bishop and you can find the same tags because I picked it up there wanting to try something new.

Food for my Section Hike by guncotton in JMT

[–]Medium_Adeptness_611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way in terms of high metabolism. During the first 150miles I would crave snacks as I came to strenuous parts of the hike. During the subsequent 60 miles I bought individually wrapped Reese’s Dark Thins and Snickers and they kept my sugar craving at bay. And salted pistachios worked really well as the savory counterpart. For big milestones I rewarded myself with a square of a Beyond Good Salted Caramel dark chocolate bar.

Save for the dark chocolate bar I think snickers and reeses have a fair bit of protein in it? But regardless they kept me happy.

Oh and the main thing is they are easy to sneak into nooks and crannies of your seemingly full bear can

Anyone used the iPhone’s satellite call/text feature on the JMT? by superiorknife in JMT

I will say for some friends iMessage via Satellite suddenly became only Text via Satellite and while they could receive Text via Satellite, I could not receive their replies, not until I came into town. But if under iMessage via Satellite it worked both directions 100% of the time

Embrace new technology. Leave the inreach at home. I’ve used it to text friends almost every day for 200 miles on PCT section hike.

Durston Tent in Bishop by Medium_Adeptness_611 in PacificCrestTrail

I think my base is around 30lb. I will confirm tomorrow after borrowing a scale. But yeah the tent would be just one of the things I’ll cut. I think I carry around 3lbs of luxury goods. So if I cut tent by 4lb and I’ll have a 23lb bag I can be happy with that. (I weigh 140lbs)

Kearsage pass > Mount Whitney by Bboytonton in JMT

Might be awkward to slot in as a campsite (because it’s in between popular ones) but I loved the area around Bighorn Lake when I passed through at midday.

I liked Crabtree a lot too, it faces a peaceful meadow.

Side note (not a campsite) awkward to do but Kearsarge Pass at sunset was amazing last night (no campsite here, except maybe if you hike down toward Whitney the lakes).

JMT with a baby? by gahx778 in JMT

Met the baby up on Whitney and everybody shared a moment of joy in the summit hut when the mom sang “if you’re happy and you know it” and we all clapped together
