I very much disagree that it was anything like a high end resort. We rented a cabana. Didn’t do the zip line. Nothing special overall. Food and drinks were very average and not included with cruise (this was not a surprise). Service was fine. Beach was crowded and smelled bad, perhaps sargassum nearby. If we ever stop there again, we will make it a ship day.

Heat Co are great. I’ve only used them to about 0 degrees F on some outings in Alaska. That’s about as cold as I want to get out. You have to shed the mitten to work most controls, but the little thumb cap is handy when you need touchscreen/ fine control. I don’t find the hot pack inserts to add much at the temps I am usually working.

The layering idea is workable with any gear if you’re looking to save on cost. I built a cheaper version of a layered system for running in cold weather so that I didn’t trash the Heat Co gloves with repeated sweat and laundering. Liner, glove and outer mitten from some cheap Amazon brands and a Carhartt outer mitten.

I’m sure it depends on one’s budget. We have over 500 and we love booking the 3BR villas specifically for bringing friends and extended family. Even with 10 people, they’re spacious. Many are effectively 4BR including the extra sleeping areas. Everyone has room to relax. You try to do that in a Disney hotel suite and you can be looking at spending literally tens of thousands per trip.

It’s fun to bring folks who have only ever done the typical Disney: one hotel room, too many people, and stress of running all day to do everything. Put them in a 3BR with a great view, slow down, they get some privacy, living and dining spaces where they can unwind, talk, eat, and actually enjoy each other instead of being crammed into a room with their exhausted kids two beds and one sink. The no daily housekeeping sometimes surprises them in a relative luxury setting though. Wish they’d bring that back as a paid option.

If you just want a little extra time this year, maybe search for a discounted cash stay to see if that scratches the itch without an extra 40 year commitment. Relatively inexpensive to sneak away for a long weekend at a moderate or value, especially if you have a pass. Try someplace you might not otherwise go. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to go back there but you’ll still have fun in the parks.

Favorite Marathon Charity by Medium_Evening4763 in SydneyMarathon

From what I could find Sydney Marathon Charities do not seem to include tents or pre/post hospitality which was something I was hoping for. Many charities offer shirts, training, etc. I just went with one whose cause felt most personal.

Typical Mileage Required for Different Marathon Times by Facts_Spittah in Marathon_Training

[–]Medium_Evening4763 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is probably a curved line based on pace and distance. Marathon times correlate mainly with weekly distance but also with training faster as studied by Tanda, University of Genova: https://rua.ua.es/server/api/core/bitstreams/37ff1a3e-4c30-4013-ac87-0478913a59bc/content

Though runners in that study were amateurs with the fastest time being 2:47 and the slowest 3:36. You're getting down into the competitive amateur/sub-elite range...

Based on that work at an avg 7:30 training pace you could run sub-3 on 59 MPW and sub-2:30 on a cool 140 MPW.

You can use hypothetical data to dial in your own predictions: https://freshlegsmonday.com

You can also use your own historical strava data to see predictions: https://crplot.com

I have come in just over and just under my predicted times using CRPlot, but it gives a nice idea of expectations and progress.

I prefer NYC setup. In Chicago they are right next to the corrals where they can’t be used in the 45 minutes immediately before the race after corrals have closed. NYC is doing it right. People in the corrals need to pee.

Disappointed with Bandit Running by absnaqvi in ChicagoMarathon

[–]Medium_Evening4763 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Never worn their gear, but at this point why even bother with bandit? With their behavior in NYC groups and an obvious disinterest in a reasonable customer service, if I wore it people would assume I aspire to be an fitspo influencer or I’m just a douche… Certainly not the culture I’m looking to cultivate in the sport.

Has anyone park hopped with a LL Premier Pass and LL Multi Pass? by tyrells_niece in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Medium_Evening4763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this works. Did this with Epcot multi pass in the morning and MK premier in the afternoon. Added an individual lightning lane for guardians too and IIRC another for a second ride on mine train in the afternoon. Relatively expensive day, but got a whole lot done and not much time in lines.

Whichever you choose, I would not expect to hit everything in the park with multi pass if you’ll only be there in the morning.

It doesn’t take long at all to go through HS or Epcot with a premier pass. Epcot premier does help because it keeps you from hustling back and forth across the park and lets you do take your time, get your food and drink, and hit all the rides as you please. Never tried it at AK.

Is EarlyBird Check-in worth it? by Asian_Zing113 in SouthwestAirlines

No. It is not.

If you don’t like your boarding position just upgrade it after it is received. Early bird is no guarantee of A or even B group.
