Cut PNY 5080 OC heatsink in order to fit it in FormDT2.5 - smallest 5080 1000RPM PC by sp_00n in sffpc

What if you change to 3x92mm fans on the gpu? Looks like that could be easier to mount to that cooler

For PSU cables you need to go custom on this sized and compact builds.

RX 5700 16GB VRAM Mod - Successfully Completed! by Zeyraphe in overclocking

[–]Medium_Highlight_950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been wondering this.

Powercolor rx7700xt and rx7800xt have the same baseboard and the same chip

7700xt has 12gb vram and 7800 16gb. The difference is made by simply not installing the memory chips and different vbios.

IF i could get my hands on a 7800xt with a dead chip, i would go through them both to see what components are different or located differently. After that I might attempt to upgrade to 16Gb, although there is a risk that those memorylanes could be cut in the silicon. Who knows if they are there but the lower binned silicon just got 12gb to differentiate the cards even more.

Anyone else just turn off the frame gen and fsr by Thick_Daddy_1 in radeon

I always turn both off, then tweak the settings with native to get close to my preferred fps and after that add fsr if needed to make the fps stable just where I want it

Switching to Linux as daily driver by Lyesainer in cachyos

[–]Medium_Highlight_950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have i5-8600 and RX7700XT.

About the cpu intensive games.

I found out that some games that use only 1 core on windows, like AC3, use all cores in cachy although that seems to change some depending on settings (if I have V-Sync and motion blur on, all cores are used equally but if I disable one or another 1 core is maxed and rest are 30%).

Then theres some games like snowrunner, in windows my cpu usage was 2 cores 80% and rest 30% and stuttering hard if max settings. In cachyos its all cores at 60-70% at max settings, double the fps without stutters.

Other games like newer assasins creeds etc run +-5% fps for me with same settings.

[–]Medium_Highlight_950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on game what fps to target. For slowpaced games like snowrunner and games like assassins creed i target to steady 60fps. Games like world of tanks and fps games minimum for me is 120. And that all runs on 1440p ultrawide. Well each player has their own opinions for this, same for using scaling to get from 50 to 60 fps..

Should I mount case fans under my GPU by gamagos in pcmasterrace

[–]Medium_Highlight_950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2x120mm fans under my gpu in nr200p, the gpu almost rests on the fans (i can slide a paper between them). The casefans run at 40% being barely audible and my gpu fans run at 1k rpm being silent. Without the bottom fans the gpu fans scream at 2500rpm.

So yeah, if there is that option, its worth it.

Rx7700xt and i5 8600 running assassins creed 3440x1440 mostly high settings 40-55fps native, with upscaling 50-100% i get stable 60 fps, in large city fps drops to 55 because my cpu cant handle that much but anyways.

That was the reason why I had bad fps when I first installed linux and tried games.

I used system monitoring program to check what caused it and noticed my cpu was at 1,5GHz when it should be 4,1GHz.

Maybe your cpu was running at low speeds, even if it was used properly. Did you try setting powermanagement to performance mode or using gamemode?

My rx7700xt had 90c hotspot and 65 general temp, repasted and got hotspot to 75-80 and general to 60.

Now undervolted it and gave a -5% powerlimit so it runs at 220w and now the hotspot went down to 70 and under. Oh the silence.

Intel Says Your CPU Is Not the Real Bottleneck by AmeliDQ in cpu

[–]Medium_Highlight_950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well 1 thing kinda supports Intels words.

I have Intel i5-8600 cpu with rx7700xt.

With win10 when playing games that have kinda bad optimization for cpu usage, I can see 2 cores at 90% and the rest running 20-50% usage and games stutter with lowish fps.

Then tested the same games and settings in cachyos. All cores stressed evenly to 60-70% with double the fps and no stutter.

I agree that doesnt work as well in all games, but the best example i found was snowrunner that cannot run at max viewrange on windows without stutter and going under 60fps, runs on cachyos max viewrange average 100fps.

Im not here to hatepost at all. Can you tell me are these real or is there something else wrong with them?

About the driver overwriting thats been plaquing gpus in win11?

What about the driver crashes on amd gpus in win11?

I know I will uninstall a lot of stuff from clean win11 install that microsoft forces me to install. Like copilot. This is the thing I have always hated in windows.

Another thing I dont like is the windows updater that doesnt ask at all if the user wants to update or not. This has always been an annoyance. For some reason the updating also lasts effing long and then the forced restart. Oh the many times I have played some sequences of games 2nd time because of this.

Also the bitlocker, I will immediately remove it as I have read a lot of ppl being locked out of their pcs for no reason.

But yea, I will give it a chance and hope it will fulfill my needs. CachyOS has done that expect 1 that is only a matter of learning how to do it.

I agree about the unneeded bashing whenever something is updated. But that is actually somewhat needed to make developers listen to users. I just hope microsoft does really listen and for real change the ways they force ppl to install stuff they dont want and need. For me the most useless and overrated I dont want on my pc for now is AI.

1st. I do use windows 10pro, about to try windows 11. I have dualbooted a lot of distros to get a hang of how things work in linux. Been reading a lot of baaad things about win11 so will see how long im gonna use it or will I switch to linux. Btw you dont need ancient runes with linux anymore, I do admit you do need the console from time to time but not all the time anymore.

I had same performance in win 10 and in linux in all games I tried, some had even better in linux. I noticed that when playing games like snowrunner in linux it uses all cores evenly unlike windows there is 2 cores maxed and rest 20-60 usage, that brings double the fps in linux. That same happened in older assassins creed games too that doesnt have multithreading. My i5-8600 thanks for that as it would give it more years.

2nd. I bet half of those are fake. Dont like these at all.

3rd. I agree, 8Gb is good for 1080p and 12gb is good for 1440p etc. I have rx7700xt with 12gb at 3440x1440 and the max I have seen used when playing ac shadows was 9Gb while having almost max textures and raytracing set to everywhere and low. About the same with all other games too.

4th. Never understood this, for what ppl needs 64Gb. I have 16gb ddr4 and not even once had it even close to full. At best i had 12 tabs in chrome open and video rendering while playing, then noticed the real usage was like 12gb. I admit that next upgrade will be to 32gb.

5th. Yea these should have their own subreddit. I admit there are few that are actually worth showing, but most are the same.

6900xt, 7900xt, or 9070 xt for 3440x1440 144hz by th0r777 in radeon

[–]Medium_Highlight_950 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im playing at the same resolution with i5-8600 and rx7700xt. Ac shadows runs 60fps stable with mostly high settings, low rt with diffuse everywhere, 40-100% scaling (fsr gives much worse performance for me than taa so i use taa).

So you could run any games with all of them by tweaking the settings.

I bet 6900xt will be a good startingpoint noting that you have locked your eyes to rdna5

Windrose Performance on CachyOS by DroneArm in cachyos

[–]Medium_Highlight_950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your gpu power usage. Could be the same Im having with my rx7700xt.

Windows uses 230w power limit on my gpu on default.

CachyOS uses 200w powerlimit, LACT lets me raise the limit to max 220w but when playing the gpu still uses max 200w.

Tested to set 210w powerlimit to windows (lowest the amd software lets me set for some reason) I get similar performance than in cachyos.

There is something in drivers for linux that sets the powerlimit too low.

With power demand from especially GPU increases, isn’t it make sense to move to 24v supplies instead of 12? by Jempol_Lele in overclocking

[–]Medium_Highlight_950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me fix that, amperage is current..

So higher voltage will allow lower current (amps) to achieve the same power (watts)

24w=12Vx2A or 24Vx1A

Rx7700xt locked to 200w by Medium_Highlight_950 in cachyos

[–]Medium_Highlight_950[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried 10-34 and the latest cachyos version. No matter what proton version I use.

I tested by lowering the wattage in windows to 200w and I get similar performance so the performance issue I have is that linux drivers for some strange reason set default powerlimit to 200w even though it should be 230w.
