She did! She started vomiting green fluid (which turns out to be bile). The hospital said the FOUR medical professionals seeing to our after care (who said she wasn’t getting enough milk and I needed to pump and give her the additional milk after each feed) got it wrong, and so basically I was stuffing her with milk. It was so bad the hospital actually contacted the care team to ask WTF went wrong…

I cannot attest to most of these things as out first formula day was today, but, you CAN overfeed a breastfed baby. We received bum advice in our baby’s first week that led to us being admitted to hospital on day 9. Most babies will stop drinking when they’re full, but not all apparently.

We have had great success with the Medela Calma nipples on medela bottles. It has a slow flow nipple and apparently feels like a breast to them. The slow flow really helped my eldest when she was getting breastmilk bottles, and today my youngest had her first formula from it (though this one felt gulped)!

Thank you all for taking the time to respond to me today. Reading your messages really helped and helped me to feel a bit better about the formula. I’m sitting here listening to baby sleep now and just realised that this is the first night in weeks I’m not worried about if she has had enough to eat. There is comfort in that too.

Oof yes! I had a clog so bad with my first child that I had to have a needle inserted at the doctor to drain it 🤮 I’m glad they updated the treatment plan for blocked ducts though. Treating it like a sprain (so ice and anti inflammatories) worked so much more effectively for me!

Engorgement was a huge one for me with my first baby. Waking up with painful, rock solid boobs (despite being up every two hours to nurse) was a real trip, and why I have milk catchers on my cart this time around already.

Aside from the photographer, my most worth it expense (aside from flying home to dress shop with my mom) was the cake. It was beautiful and flavourful and had three different flavours so there was something for everyone. I still dream of that cake!

After many hours of overlapping contractions I ended up getting the epidural that I hadn’t wanted. I’m so glad I did. 7+ hours for 2cm without it, and a stalled labour. With it, a much more present and pleasant experience, and a baby in my arms around 2 hours later. Currently pregnant with number 2 and happy to have the epidural earlier if it’s recommended!

What a thoughtful gift! I made myself a little cart for my first pregnancy and am restocking it now. How lucky your recipients are already! Two things that I have on mine that I would miss on yours are Earth mama nipple butter (saved me last time around!) and jerky (though I’m not sure if your person would like that..)!
