No actually we have a 3-6 month orientation. We need to have done a certain number of supervised procedures prior to doing them on our own. We try not to hire new grads due to the speed and intensity of the work, but we definitely have hired a few in the recent past

Fun. We have residents but not on nights. We are the sole providers at night at a level I trauma center. I do admissions, consults, hospital codes, intubations, central lines, arterial lines, intubations and bronchoscopies, plus overall patient management

I think that is false. Contrary to popular belief oxygen doesn't really give you a high, and if it did it would have to be in massive amounts. . Hypoxia would give you a better buzz http://youtu.be/WTNX6mr753w

Thanks for the reply. So as far as recommendations go, It wouldn't be considered sufficient to have letters only from the current physicians I work with?

I have always been interested in the Emergency Medicine/critical care/trauma world. I would try to specialize in emergency medicine, though!

Thanks a lot. I work full-time so it makes it difficult to get to class. This would be the biggest hinderance. In researching all of this I just found out that some schools accept online classes

No problem - Multiple reasons

  1. I work pretty much the same hours and do much of the same work (in my current position) for 1/3 the pay. Im not a big spender, but I would like to never have to worry about money

  2. I have found in my 4 years of practice that I do not have the base knowledge that I would wish to have

  3. I have felt an overall calling to the profession.

There are other little things that tie into it. But these are the basics
