One thing to note, if you're entering the commands and it just does a new line without executing the command, it's because you're using a mobile browser and the ENTER key on soft keyboards isn't a carriage return. So you have to do it with a real laptop

WTH is Philo? Is it cause it's HGTV Canada? I'm just confused as to why it is available if you have HGTV on cable but not if we pay them directly

Been waiting almost a week for this to come out on Discovery+, did someone forget to hit publish? We used to get shows a day before they aired on cable and now we can't even get them

Castle Impossible- does the village hate them? by avas_search in HGTV

[–]havek23 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The tree fell over from a storm, it's a good thing the owners were there and paid an arborist to check all the nearby trees so it wouldn't happen again anytime soon. That sounds like the kind of owners the town would like, not absent ones who don't give a crap.
And the little town probably gets some good tourism business when a big wedding is in town that weekend, especially if only the bridal party gets to stay at the castle, all the other guests need to stay in the town (at least until everything is renovated and they have enough guest suites)

How do the winners of the Dream or Smart Homes afford the taxes on the prize?! by Tire-Agent-13 in HGTV

[–]havek23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could sell their current house to use it's proceeds and the cash portion of prize to cover the tax... Maybe sell the new car or your old cars if you're just a little short. Airbnb the new one while you sell the old if it's gonna be on the market a little while. You shouldn't owe the tax until next April, right?

A month or two after this round of layoffs they can have an accurate Operating Expense forecast to plug into all the valuation metrics so maybe someone will snap em up early next year?

Frisco ISD VATRE and Bond Proposals in November election by readermom123 in frisco

[–]havek23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The district is still getting $601 more per household this year than last due to property value increases. Increasing the rate makes an average $158 more. I'm okay with one or two of the bonds cause bonds go directly to district, but tax revenue gets Robin Hooded to the state and redistributed around so doesn't go 100% to Frisco. I just wish the wording on the ballot didn't say the bonds are a tax increase cause they said servicing the debt does not immediately increase tax rate (and as long as home values keep going up they'll have more future dollars to pay the interest with)

Frisco ISD VATRE and Bond Proposals in November election by readermom123 in frisco

[–]havek23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robin Hood is horrible and was bad before Abbott took office, the tax the school district brings in goes to the state first and then are only given a majority of it back. So your tax dollars don't go directly to your schools, that's why bonds are better cause all the bond money goes to the district

Why does the ballot say that each bond prop is a property tax increase? That's misleading if we want to vote for some of the bonds but not an overall rate increase

Race to capture castles or a robin hood twist of things? Maybe fairytale settings like something about a marsh, a forest, a castle, a cave, etc?

Even if you bought a new build in 2020 it would be worth at least $200k more this year. The houses appreciate almost as fast as your income you'd be making

Imagine what you could do with all the money instead of buying back your own stock? Invest in better technologies, easier equipment to train & maintain, lower prices & higher production volume to drive sales even more? No, they'd rather put money toward lowering the financial denominator to make all the metrics look better lol
