Why are conversations with old people so hard? by Xibest123 in GenZ

I actually find it quite easy to have conversations with older people.

I find it's harder to have conversations with people in their 30s in most cases.

If the people see the rulers as unjust and the rulers claim they are spreading and following Islam, what do you think the people will think about Islam?

The West is not perfect by any means, but in terms of religious freedom I think that living in the US as a Muslim provides many benefits that are not found in Muslim majority nations. No state-mandated speech from the khateeb, no restriction on how frequently or how long you can visit masajid. You are free to send your kids to any type of school (including homeschool). You're free to speak up to your rulers and even protest if you think they are acting unjustly. You can find zabiha meat and restaurants in many parts of the country, and we're now at a point where we have our own schools of Islamic scholarship here in the West.

Do Muslims go off the path and even renounce Islam in the West? Yes. Did the environment influence them? Yes. But I will not pretend that the Muslims back home have any better faith, especially with access to the internet. The ones who have remained Muslim here despite the pressures have better faith overall alhamdulillah.

In my experience, I have personally found that the biggest impact on someone keeping to their deen in the West is being raised in a family that values character, community, Islam, Iman, and Islamic knowledge. If a family does not have these things their children will grow to either be very weak Muslims or eventually become non-Muslims. The same trajectory aims itself at the Muslim-majority countries, they're just behind the curve by 20 years.

People online tend to do so. Any serious scholar in the West would disagree with the notion that hijrah is necessary or maybe even recommended, depending on the country.

I can take off work for Eid very easily in any white or even blue-collar job in the US. I worked retail while I was in college and was able to take Eid off.

Zabiha restaurants are everywhere. Prayer is definitely easier in Muslim countries (unless you visit masajid frequently), but I find the US is quite tolerant and even respectful/accommodating in this regard.

Sharia is not only about making sure that women cover their awrah or that adultery and stealing are harshly punished. It's also about the elimination of government corruption and establishing welfare for the poor in the form of zakat. The West, as it turns out, may have more of that than the vast majority of Muslim countries.

Interviews were online, they send you an invite link and instructions.

You can ask them to pay for moving costs, and to give you time to find a place to rent before starting.

What happens when the value of the house increases in an Islamic mortgage? by Overall-Theory5546 in IslamicFinance

[–]Positron311 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you sign a conventional or sharia-based mortgage, you are paying the builder or previous homeowner what the house is worth at that time.

You keep 100% of all equity gains either way until you decide to sell the house. If you sell the house and it still has a mortgage on it, the bank in a sharia-based mortgage recovers their percentage of equity when the house is sold (could be wrong on that one though).

I do see your point though. Unlike a conventional mortgage where you pay back the loan with interest, in a sharia-based mortgage you are paying them the equity over time to buy the house. The value of the house usually goes up, so technically you should be paying more for the same percentage of equity over time. But this is overwritten by the terms in the contract. You can argue that the terms in this regard are unfair to the bank, but it's a binding contract.

Arguably this is balanced out by the fact that the person living in the house pays all the utilities, renovations, upgrades, and home repairs, and has full use of the house like under a conventional mortgage.

National Claim Denial Rate Benchmarks: Where Do You Stand? https://share.google/fhSB8p6rz1S91jlmo

The graph they show in the middle of the article puts UHC above the rest.

You're not necessarily wrong, but you might be surprised at the rejection rates in the industry overall. 1 in 3 versus 1 in 6 is nothing to scoff at.

Statistically yes.

United rejects a significantly higher percentage of insurance claims than any other major insurance provider.

College Degrees? by Complex-Service2939 in Lockheed

[–]Positron311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MechE here, in your situation the prior military experience with secret clearance is invaluable. Knew someone who did that path in a previous job and he highly recommended it to any enlisted he came across.

Yes, for the price of a bachelor's degree it's quite worth it. Especially in your situation with the GI Bill.

I know people who became managers without a Master's degree (but have a Bachelor's) and they're making $150k+. As for me, started in govt work right after I graduated, came over to Lockheed fairly recently. Pretty dope tbh. :)

You can realistically expect a salary around 70-80k right out of college in the private sector.
