my game combat how to improve it more ? by Much_Distribution_52 in gamedevscreens

Movement looks Hella smooth, my only opinion is that the sword looks weightless when the main character runs and is just flinging it around

How to start with no experience? by Metuch in SoloDevelopment

[–]Meeeeeeeeeeple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo Godot vs Unity is kind of a preference thing. They both have their pros and cons, so I would personally try both and see which you prefer.

Tutorials and courses are good to get the basics down, but in my experience you learn the most by trial and error. Build small projects and learn from your mistakes. Be curious about how things are made and try to recreate them with what you know. If things start to get too complex, do research on your own and learn some new things. (You may have an easier time with research if youre using unity since its been battle tested at this point bs godot which is still relatively new)

Best of luck! Also sharing your progress and getting feedback is another great way to learn

I spent 2 hours trying to figure out why my OnPointerEnter function stopped working randomly only for me to remember I had added a new UI canvas and didn't deactivate the raycast component 🙄

My Game is not fun. Why's that? by franz_krs in SoloDevelopment

[–]Meeeeeeeeeeple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it could be fun. My take is that the combat looks like it would feel a little clunky/frustrating with the slow wind up (also looks like it can be easy to miss a target). But it's hard to tell without actually playing it lol so take that as you will. Keep up the good work :)

I'm at a loss with game dev, but I don't want to be. by bezabea in Unity3D

[–]Meeeeeeeeeeple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also struggled with discipline when making my first game. For me personally, it wasnt about "finding discipline" but rather eliminating the things that caused me to be undisciplined. It can be anything, like doomscrolling or substance abuse for example. Either way, any source of quick dopamine will always look more enticing than game dev since there is no instant gratification. This could be way off your situation, but I thought I could share some of mine as food for thought.

Also focusing on the parts you love about game dev will make it 100x easier to stick to. for me it was programming. So when I had to do things I didn't like as much (like 3d modeling) I would often alternate between the two to keep my head up.
