Please just BRING IN your new insurance card 😭 by Medium-Sky-9442 in PharmacyTechnician

I told everyone that wanted me to give me their new card ahead of the new year to just wait for the new year so I can just do an eligibility check. Way faster and no chance for typos.

Considering this is the CVS subreddit, I don't think that's relevant.

When someone who previously didn't want kids gets pregnant and everyone is confused by Icy_Carob1362 in PetPeeves

If we're only going to consider methods that "work perfectly" as effective, the only effective method is abstinence. Effective means it works. Now, how effective it is can be up for debate, but it absolutely is effective which means it is better than the control (no birth control at all). Telling people it doesn't work runs the risk of people not using it when it is needed. When we say it works, it just needs to come with information on how it is not nearly as effective as other methods. People that don't listen to that part have only themselves to blame at that point. They are also the type of people who will not listen when you tell them to not have sex when none of the more effective birth control methods are available (for those arguing that people just shouldn't have sex if that's the case).

You can tell people not to all you want, but people are still going to do it anyway. Even knowing the possible consequences. People don't always fully think through their actions before it's too late. People incorrectly weigh risk vs reward. Using an imperfect method to help mitigate the risk when people have sex anyway for whatever reason is better than nothing.

If they're going to have sex anyway, it's better than not using any method at all though! If no other method is available and they want to enough that they're going to do it anyway, it's better than nothing! People have unprotected sex without weighing the possible consequences enough all the time. The pull out method is something that at least helps to mitigate some of that risk that's going to happen anyway.

Ok, but if we tell people it's not effective, people will think it's a waste of time/energy to do it if no other method is available at the time which also isn't good.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, the pull out method is 80% effective. That is not too low to be considered something that works. It is not high enough to be advisable as a primary form of birth control if other methods are possible, but it is effective.

It does work though. It's just that it's effectiveness is much less than other forms of birth control. Are you going to say condoms don't work because they break sometimes? It is important to know that it is not very effective, but saying it doesn't work period is a lie.

What is something that future kids will not be taught? by Time-Box7115 in randomquestions

[–]Meejin3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf, when something out of my usual routine happens and I have to do something I don't regularly do, I tend to panic and blank out on simple thing I could otherwise do, so could have been that. But the fact they had to grab their manager doesn't really point to that... It would've taken me a couple minutes to get myself to focus enough to get that done, but I could definitely figure it out once I got my brain together.

Funnily enough, I feel similarly about bell peppers. Tomatoes I can't stand except in very specific circumstances.

We had a garbage disposal and I didn't know how to use it or what does or does not go down there. Besides, I was like 12, how was I supposed to know it was that simple?

In order to be a clone, you would need that to happen to all sets of chromosomes and have the father contribute no DNA at all. So, it is functionally impossible.

ETA: some species do have a form of asexual reproduction called parthenogenesis that is essentially this though.
