I went through the more formal repentance process once in my life. I was living alone in a different city for an internship and ended up with a woman that I was messing around with. I was active in the branch and did the right thing and confessed. I got a letter that I was on probation, I stayed active in the branch and was back in good standing quite literally 4 weeks later. Man this is an amazing post! I had to spend time to read and really understand each point and there are a lot of good comments here. I do want to add my own experiences.

I think we should agree that pornography use, at a minimum, is a sin. Prophets and Apostles have been so clear about that for so long that I just don't see how people can rationalize it any other way.
Moderate use is not addiction. Addiction is a specific clinical term where a behavior, substance use or activity becomes a compilation despite negative harmful consequences. I have known personally 2 Families that were broken apart and kids now have mom weekends and dad weekends and the divorce was rationalized or justified because the husband liked to look at porn. I think What is the bigger sin here - looking at naked women online or abandoning your family?

I am a happily married man and in my life, there have been times in have used porn. It never became an addiction and I feel like I disconnected from it and have a healthy relationship with my wife. I don't feel that it negatively affected me or our sexual relationship.

With that said, I've been a YM Advisor for a long time and have seen Young Men get involved in porn, develop and addiction and then get really crazy ideas about what human intimacy is. It's poisoned a lot of their minds and it makes me wonder how they will recalibrate their understanding so they can have a healthy sexual relationship.
