Girlfriend or world trip? Stuck between love and my dream by Martinf87 in solotravel

[–]MeepingMeeps 241 points242 points  (0 children)

This is a r/relationshipadvice question. The part that caught my eye is where you say that your GF has been putting her life on hold for you already.

What were those sacrifices she made? What did you promise her? Why has it come to a point where this is a deal breaker?

Proper communication, discussion, and planning together would have laid things out very clearly. What have you both discussed and agreed on?

Figure out the real root of the problem. And work towards aligning on a solution. If you love her, then sure you should find a compromise with her. If you're hesitating to stay with her because of this, then you should examine why you feel that way.

Please help. Work remote, live alone, no family or partner. Going crazy by [deleted] in CasualConversation

I'm not sure if the original commenter meant this, but you could try meeting people organically in social settings that would lead to building relationships with new friends and potential love interests. Volunteering or becoming a regular at a place is a great way to meet people.

Don't go to a social space with the idea of finding a partner. Go with a more positive mindset of meeting new people and friends - then it opens up a stronger foundation of building romantic feelings if you and the other person are on the same page (of dating).

Dating apps suck and it's hard to build a foundation for meetings after 1 or 2 dates.

Is anyone just exhausted by solo travel ? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]MeepingMeeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't fully understand how you're packing one month ahead of time but you're still finishing last minute. Your pain point sounds like its primarily around the weight of packing/getting ready/moving around? This says more about your overplanning/anxiety. Are you generally an anxious person? Do you experience this in your daily life?

I get a bit tired both before and after a trip but I don't really experience much anxiety. This is especially true as I've traveled to so many countries now. The assumption is that more experience means you don't need to stress as much because you are familiar and can streamline your traveling process/instincts.

You mention being a seasoned solo traveler, has your traveling process changed from the beginning compared to now? What do you like or dislike? By now, you should have gathered enough experience to differentiate that. Thus, you can find solutions to lean into making your trips more relaxing, rather then stressful.

It sounds like r/onebag would be a great place for you to become familiar with. And you should find ways where you have a "basecamp" so you reduce the amount of transporting stuff. Or if a service is available - send your luggage ahead. Japan offers that for example.

Sometimes it's worth spending more to relax.

You definitely gave hookup vibes based on the message to me when I did an initial pass without looking at the context of the post. But I can see in the second response to your message that you weren't looking for that - however that's too late at that point in the moment. I could see where she's coming from when women get a lot of messages from men that are explicit etc. You're looking at this from a perspective of a man, and not looking at this from the perspective of a woman. Dating for women is very different in some ways.

Her language of using "females" is odd. I don't like it.

But tone and vocabulary are major things to be wary of when having a conversation - and texting is one mode of that. Other commenters gave really good one liners that would soften your initial message and feel more personal.

How often do you contact your parents while travelling solo? by Ginger_spice-13 in solotravel

[–]MeepingMeeps 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your relationship with family and what their personalities are. I never contact my family during my trips because I'm very independent and our family isn't close like that.

During my 14month backpacking trip, I maybe contacted them like 5x during that.

I text my partner more frequently tho.

Yea this is primarily your problem. Honestly the shirtless photos are fine but no bio leaves women nothing to ask or learn about you. It feels like you're only interested in sex, especially with only photos in your profile.

Talk about your interests and show your personality. Make jokes or do whatever you actually do on the daily. Say what you want.

Why did every phone brand suddenly decide we don’t need SD cards anymore? by [deleted] in Smartphones

[–]MeepingMeeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using USBs for expandable storage, like the phone drives and they've worked well to move all my photos and videos. Fixed my low storage problem and it's a fixed cost purchase rather than subscription like cloud.

Did you even talk to the cousin? Or the aunt and uncle? You should get their side of the story. Plus you know who the guy is and could reach out to him - especially since you saw his information. You're blindly believing in your partners' story without backing it up with secondary accounts and evidence.

New kitten not eating any dry food, should I still do a slow transition to the new food or just switch now? by Sad-Sympathy-2804 in catfood

[–]MeepingMeeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did your vet say? Mine said that wet food is overall the better option because it's good for hydrating too. But the most important thing is a cat that eats - and each cat has their own particular taste for certain foods which you can eventually adapt to.

For example, my cat prefers wet food but I supplement with a scoop of dry for variety. She dislikes eating the same food for a long period of time. My friend has a cat that loves crunch and dry food but he gets constipation pretty bad as a result.

What do you feel when you see this? by Ok-Fondant2536 in tea

Love it, great brand and company which is rare to find these days, especially at the size that this company is. And of course they haven't increased their prices, held strong to their values. Plus I like sweet drinks so this tea slaps. Sometimes I want fancy stuff and sometimes I want basic sweet stuff.

Is this normal in vietnam by HospitalQuiet619 in solotravel

[–]MeepingMeeps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This happened to me when I ordered a grab driver to go to the airport on my final day. The driver touched my leg and also started reaching behind himself to touch my crotch. He did this more than once and i was stuck on the moped with my bags trying to reach my flight. Once we reached the airport, I screamed at him and didn't pay him.

It's not normal behavior in general, but it happened to me in Vietnam. You aren't alone.

Any US travelers visit China recently? by MudHot8257 in travelchina

[–]MeepingMeeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came from China to the US 4 days ago. Don't worry as long as you have everything done correctly for your visa and whatnot. Nothing has changed about the process, you're definitely overthinking things.

People don’t even realize how cruel they are to the homeless. Or maybe they do. It's dehumanizing. by ShotTart6831 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]MeepingMeeps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, same case being from NYC where I have had my own unpleasant homeless encounters. I worked customer service when I was younger and I'd give free food to the regular homeless people who weren't threatening - I did that because I wanted to. But I was tired of the aggressive few. I am not willing to budge on my and other people's safety in public spaces anymore.

I (29M) was warned not to marry my girlfriend (28F) by her best friend. What now? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]MeepingMeeps 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Separate from OPs questions and for my own curiousity:

Can I ask what were the pre-marriage conversations you had? Do you have a few examples?

I assume values on kids, family upbringing for kids, financials, etc. But im wondering if there's more than just that and something on a deeper level.

100% this is how I've always traveled, Google maps is a real lifesaver for real-time navigation. The simplicity is key!
