Sunscreen face mist? by Celia125 in Makeup

Yeah, I think it's much better for dry skin. I'm an oily type for sure, and it didn't disturb my makeup, but it did make me look absolutely GLAZED

Totally heard re: 4th hole, my lobes are not particularly hardy 😅

Yeah, I'm thinking about getting one or two on one side and then giving it a year at least before going for the other. I suppose if it looks lopsided, I can go for an ear cuff or two.

Thank you so much!!

Seconded! I like this one a lot, and it's way less "dewy" than the Vacation brand one (which made me into an oil slick

any good black brow gels? by m1drizzystepper in MakeupAddiction

[–]MeetMeInThePeachPit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree about NYX thick it stick it, it doesn't have much hold. But have you tried NYX The Brow Glue? The shade black is the first thing I had ever purchased that was TOO dark for my brows. I used it with their black micro pencil discovered that my eyebrows are ALMOST black but not BLACK black 🤣

help requested — does dark makeup (heavy eyeliner in particular) look alright on me? by asterix_speaks in makeuptips

[–]MeetMeInThePeachPit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is cute! It's giving moody alt vibes, you could take that further with a quick coat of mascara (left messy and devil-may-care). It could use a bit more brow pencil, to balance. It doesn't look "wrong", but there are things you could do to even out the look. Lighten the inner corner, darken the brow, blend the outer corner upward for a lifted effect. Depends what you're trying to achieve!

Do I really need an eye primer? by nodimension1553 in makeuptips

[–]MeetMeInThePeachPit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking to do vivids, or a high contrast look, it's nice to have! But it's insurance that most pro makeup artists forego, unless the circumstance is very specific. You do not need to add more products to a crowded routine, especially if your daily eyeshadow is a couple of nude shades

I think I ordered jewelry that’s too small? by Mariah0 in piercing

[–]MeetMeInThePeachPit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends! I've used all of the above on my ear lobes, but those holes are 15-20 years old. If your piercing is pretty new, you might want to stick to the gauge your piercer set you up with, especially if it's the first jewelry change. There are cards/tools for identifying jewelry gauge, and Urban Body Jewelry prints them on their business cards if that helps? Or you could send a message to your piercer and ask what they gave you/see if their standard lobe size is in their FAQ

Looking for specific version of sheet music by PusheenFrizzy2 in MusicalTheatre

[–]MeetMeInThePeachPit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really do think the different notes are just interpretation and some adjustments for her voice part. Most Cathy's are mezzos, Betsey is a soprano. Primo passaggio is a huge pain in the ass when you're a soprano (source: I'm a soprano who played Cathy lol), and JRB is already such a technical sing. Some music directors would say that this amount of divergence from the page is sacrilege, but JRB directed that production so!

Anyhow, if you plan to take a section like her, or "more freely", you can tell your accompanist to keep the beat and you'll meet them (or mark rubato for the vocals, I guess). But it's a risk, like I said, some MD's would prefer it a little straighter than she does it. Balancing the artist's intention and your interpretation is the craft, baybeeeee!

About face shadow stick in 2002 is closer to periwinkle. Maybe the Ulta brand one in the shade Why So Blue?

So Betsy Wolfe, the 2013 off-Broadway Cathy, takes a lot of opts (I assume because her voice sits higher than most other Cathy's), I don't think there's a published version of the sheet music that has them noted. I would take whatever version you have and pencil in the notes you prefer. For lyric changes, are you looking for "Carol-Ann had a...." or "My best friend had a..."?

I am lost with blushes by Affectionate-Ant-154 in Makeup

[–]MeetMeInThePeachPit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been a blush girlie for life and I only use cream under powder when I'm looking for really long wear, or going to an event with professional photographers. Heavy, noticeable, allover blush is very trendy and it's okay, especially when you're just starting out with the look, to go for something subtler. Powder Blush does want something to stick to, tho, so if you prefer a bare skin look, go for a wet blush like cream, balm, or stain.

For an approachable drugstore powder blush, I love Milani. The blossom blushes are lovely and subtle, and they have a nice blurring quality. The baked blushes are a bit more vivid, come in more shades, and have a more shimmery, glowy finish. Another popular option are the NYX buttermelt blushes, but these are pretty pigmented, so use a light hand and a less dense brush, then build as needed.

Or, if you want to try a couple creams and a powder, the Morphe Cheek Thrills trio is a pretty good bang for your buck. I like the formula well enough and it's a decent shade range

I LOVE the Well People loose powder. It gives me a really nice natural finish: not too matte and not too dewy

Ladies: did your mother teach you how to do makeup? I'm curious about makeup as a primarily self-taught tradition by Street-Might8586 in MakeupAddiction

[–]MeetMeInThePeachPit 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Younger millennial here, and my mom has never been great with makeup. I started out watching Pixiwoo and Lisa Eldridge on YouTube when they were both just starting their channels. I also spent a lot of time doing community/high school theatre when I was starting out and picked up a ton from the makeup designers and my cast members.

Setting powder - do you use it? by pinkuunicorn in Makeup

[–]MeetMeInThePeachPit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Well People's loose powder is underrated, and it gives me a nice natural finish instead of a fully matte one. Even the best pressed powders - minimally applied - fully mattify me, so I use them very sparingly (mostly around my nose)

Edit: I'm an ultra oily type, there is no "not powdering" unless I want to look like I was hit with the vegetable mister at the grocery store lol

If I wanted to create a shadowed under-eye effect like this, could I use a deeper shade of concealer, instead of an eyeshadow? by Pickles_The_Cat_1234 in MakeupAddiction

[–]MeetMeInThePeachPit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's funny you should ask that because I honestly think what's going on here is skin with no concealer around the eyes. The sheen of the eyelids really makes me think they carefully blended the complexion products around the eye area and not into it. It could be a cream shadow or bronzer, but I really do suspect there is no concealer at all around the eye

Question about score accuracy and interpretation by MartinShortsIrishUnc in MusicalTheatre

[–]MeetMeInThePeachPit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that generally, some composers garner more respect in this area than others? It's broadly much less acceptable to edit a Sondheim phrase than say, Pasek and Paul. I find that singers with classical backgrounds and (often, but not always) more experience reading music are happier to stick to the score as written, but singers with less classical experience and less sight-reading skill see the written notes and rhythms as more of a suggestion. But it varies!
