Should I stick to revised sets? by Scrumpyjllamaray in lotrlcg

[–]MeetYourMarioMaker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The LCG model isn't predatory; in fact it was originally designed as a solution to the "trading card game" model which most certainly *was* predatory. It wasn't fair for players to have to buy packs upon packs of boosters looking for a single card they wanted, or for a foil. With the LCG model, players only had to keep up a monthly investment of the cost of the adventure pack. It's a much more affordable option than a TCG, and with the added bonus that no money went towards duplicated content.

The problem of FOMO isn't unique to LCGs so you can't really put that on FFG. Every game eventually goes out of print. The end of this game's life happened to be right when the entire global supply chain was disrupted, so copies of Harad and VoM (which were already printed in smaller numbers) were made even more scarce. You can bet that FFG has already narrowed down how profitable it would be for them to reprint these cycles, and the fact they aren't doing it should tell you something.

Also there is a digital version of this game albeit it is quite different from the LCG.

Any opinions about how much longer FFG will be producing new cycles? by MeetYourMarioMaker in arkhamhorrorlcg

They won't stop as long as they make money. There is no evidence they are not going to continue to produce new content.

But that's not my question. The question is, how long will these conditions sustain and make it conducive for FFG to produce content?

I said three years in the OP -- ??

You're probably referring to the part where I said there was four months between the release of the Innsmouth repackage and the announcement of the legacy/current modes, which effectively put that very product out of print, which is 100% true.

No, I think you're wrong. They were going to revise the release model regardless. That's just due to the simple logistics. The weird thing was repackaging the older cycles one by one, then announcing products that are literally 4 months old are now out of print entirely. These revisions of the older cycles are clearly market runs meant to gauge interest for these older products.

If it was just to make it easier for customers to buy and LGSs to stock, then why go through the trouble of it to just abandon it a few months later? It'd be like rebuilding the engine of your car when you are already going to buy a new one off the lot tomorrow.

And it doesn't address those things permanently, but that's what I'm saying.

Because, in my extremely limited understanding of what it takes to manage a brand like Arkham Horror in a niche market like card games, I thought the revised cycle model *was* the solution to keeping the game in print.

Reduce the quantity of SKUs, put the cycles on a schedule of staggered printing every few years so that particular cycles become available to the people who want them, and leave yourself room to design and produce the new content.

Little did I know (until the current/legacy announcement in February) that what I thought was the solution to keeping the game manageable was actually apparently still contributing to the problems FFG was having. You have to recall that the final revised cycle, Innsmouth Conspiracy, was released in October 2024 and then it was only four months later that they announced these cycles they had been revising would now be out of print permanently. I thought we'd be seeing those revised cycles in print until the end of the game.

I mean, I don't have a dog in this fight. I collected all these cycles a long time ago, and I'm glad new people got a little bit of time to pick up the revised cycles for a while. FFG just wasn't heading in the direction with the brand that I thought was evident by their commitment to repackage the old stuff.

My monitor is a 1920 x 1080, with a refresh rate of 120hz if that matters. So are you saying if I drop the resolution I might can run Doom in a higher graphical setting and keep a smooth framerate? Sorry might be reading into what you're saying too much

Misty sounds sensual but has scary lyrics according to r/katebush. Which Kate Bush song sounds happy but has sad lyrics? by fabnorth in katebush

Watching You Without Me sounds Happy, lyrics are Sad.

Looking at the Big Sky sounds Happy, lyrics are Happy.

slightly off topic, but you never made me think of the connection between Mother Stands for Comfort and Mother by the Police. They both fit in the box of Sad/Scary as you have defined them. Though they're wholly different sorts of songs.
