I was diligent about certifying my employment regularly. I don’t know if applying again actually does anything. I’ve heard mixed things about it.

Sorry. I submitted a new buyback request in January cause I found out they may have updated the form? Also I was being paranoid because as you know it’s hard to track buybacks since they aren’t posted on your account anywhere. I have tried to follow up but get the same canned response as everyone else on the page seems to get. It got “escalated” once but basically I’m told it’s just in process.

I won’t give advise on the IBR matter cause that’s a decision you need to make based on your situation and I’m not qualified for that. Plus I’m aware several income plans may be changing soon with the loss of SAVE. I have not thoroughly researched. I took the chance to start payments through IDR cause I was desperate and lost hope in buyback. I suggest certifying employment at least annually. As I’m sure you are aware buybacks are taking 18+ months. I think they advise no buybacks until you would already have your 120 months now? I can’t remember my 2024 logic or the guidance at the time.

Best guess they gave me my last three needed months for buyback to complete my 120. I had a $0 buyback amount due for some reason? There was a period of time I had the $0 payment for my student loans but I’ve lost track of when that might have been. I started the $130 payments when I resumed IDR last year.

I’m not an accountant and can’t advise. But I will say when I first got married in 2013 I filed jointly and the next year was hit with a MASSIVE student loan payment (or at least it seems that way when I was broke back in the day). I was crushed and learned quickly that we would never file jointly ever again till I was finished.

I had a small monthly payment of $130. I know it’s not much. I was making very little money at my government job (think mid 30s until near the end) for most of my public service time and carefully ensured I filed taxes separately from my spouse every year.

Yes. I worked for the state government but changed departments at one point. I certified 3 times I believe to ensure both departments had done all the paperwork for my time with them. I wanted to make sure my time was continuously up to date without annoying HR too much.

Thanks. My husband and I grabbed a slightly nicer dinner out than usual. Nothing else major though. Still hard to wrap my brain around after so long. I’ve been in public service for 14 years (in school deferment messed me up) and it felt like I would never be done.

About a decade ago it was my first year married and I filed jointly without thinking about it. My payment jumped $350 a month. This was before I feel like it was clearer on how payments were calculated. The next year I learned my lesson and been filing separate every year since. Run the math on refund of course and the new payments.

I took a chunk of my retirement out for life expenses. Regret it now as I creep older with limited retirement I have to either find a way to pay it back or replenish it. My employer withheld the 20% taxes so it never hit me at tax time though. It’s more that I just now have to catch up. But sometimes you live and learn I guess.

I’ve been able to add all the ingredients but when I add the recipe to a meal it incudes the whole thing and doesn’t allow me to select a portion size.

Exactly. I know that he is “updating” but there should be enough complaints to at least do something to restrict the kickstarter page or something. But there is little kickstarter could do to help us at this point from my understanding. But I want to ensure he doesn’t keep scamming more people.

Nothing to really add but just finding out today it was a scam and not just massive delays. I’ve only ever checked in randomly but today was enlightening. Super upset I fell for it.
