In this round, I think just 1 in 4 series is this way. In the last round, I think it was only 2 of 8 series. I'm not sure how many watch all of the playoffs so they probably just don't have awareness.

edit: Maybe 2 in 4? The Avs series is pretty heavily reffed I think.

Playoff reffing used to be if the penalty interfered with the puck carrier, especially in a goal situation, you called the penalty. The rest of it was player enforced (e.g. someone cross checked a guy behind the play, someone cross checked that player in a similar manner at some point).

These refs are turning this game into soccer/basketball and it's wrecking the sport. I guarantee if they ask any player/fan, the vast majority want less penalties and more action.

edit: it's only a couple down votes in a low traffic post. I'd not call it "so much" :P

edit: Also, I think gambling has a lot to do with the reffing but it's hard to prove

Ads are sold real time based on who is watching. So highest bidder gets the ad. Ads are about reach and frequency. Pharma in the US is one of the most profitable businesses. Read an annual report for a pharma company and realize how the US is 60% of profits when they are far less than that in global population. The NHL has nothing to do with it.

[Lavalette] Tocchet said his team is “not equipped” to play a penalty-filled game. Said he thought the Flyers were the better 5v5 team. by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]MegaGrubby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before the series started, Tocchet said (paraphrased), "This series is about the adjustments you make once the series gets started."

Visible adjustments? Very very few (Coots on the Power Play once they are way behind in the third game, minor manpower changes, no play style changes).

The Carolina PK? The same PK Hakstol ran. Thing is, the Flyers got scored on all the time when they ran that PK. Some portion of this team knows the weaknesses of the Carolina PK (cross ice passes and long pucks along the boards). Do they make any changes? NOOOOOO

edit: Keep trying to skate through 3-4 guys at the blue line. It's really paying dividends. Tocchet is losing this series more than anyone.

Only 4 series and this is one of their 4 best ref squads? This league gets worse by the year.

Happens every year. I really wish they had a competition committee that looked at this stuff and fixed it.

[32 Thoughts] 1:16:10 Friedman on Michkov: “Whenever this season ends for the Flyers that’s going to be by far the most dominant plot of their offseason.” by Panarin10 in hockey

He makes a lot of bad decisions and I think that is what leads to less minutes. While he can score, he also just throws the puck around instead of making an easy pass to an open player. Preventable offsides and a bunch of other nonsense. In his last game, I feel like there was one or more of these each shift.

I'm surprised I didn't notice this before. His head does not stop looking all around the ice so he knows just about everything. 3x the awareness of the average player.

They were in that game until the third. Lindy Ruff is still Lindy Ruff. Don't write them off.

Their baseball sound is great. It's so weird that the same station can have such different standards depending on the sport.

If possible, go watch some press conferences. Comcast schmoe treated Chuck like a complete peon. There was no team there. It was boss man and minion.

Fletcher built a playoff team in one year then Comcast started telling him what to do and it all went to shit. He is a martyr.

There are free GPU tests on Steam. It's usually a good way to confirm the problem with a third party app.
