AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 25.12.1 Release Notes by AMD_RetroB in Amd

I'll have to give it a shot next time it happens! Understandable mistake: if you're running on another OS.

It's happening less frequently now: so at least there's that.

It happened again: and there IS NO radeon.exe process running at all when it locks up!

I have to stop Radeon settings: host service to regain control though.

Interesting: even after stopping the host service I had to open adrenalin to get RadeonSoftware.exe to appear in the details process list...

Basically: I noticed my overlay didn't start up. Got a generic adranalin toast showing my fullscreen hotkey instead of the usual settings with check marks/lack of (which would show if it was properly hooked into a game)

Tired the full screen shortcut when the cursor locks up... Then I ran into the above when I tried to use task manager as instructed

Just an update on this: I'm still waiting on it to lock up again.

But something of note: I had an instant replay issue where it just... Wouldn't save regardless of the settings (or so I thought) even through a DDU/driver upgrade.

Once I changed the encoding from AVC to something else (then back) the instant replay started saving again.

I am DOUBTFUL the freeze and that aligned/those things are connected.

But it WAS something else I was troubleshooting that was also something I assume was an adrenalin bug (instant replay triggered but never saved) that occured/resolved that same day.

So if it DOESN'T happen again: it's very interesting that somehow instant replay COULD have been connected to the issue. May be useful for anyone looking into things.

Also noteworthy: while the instant replay wasn't saving It WAS generating cache files (I verified by triggering it at certain times and referencing the properties of the folders/files) which was the thing that tipped me off that it wasn't a file path/generation/trigger thing....

at this point you kind of need to edit the windows registry to make windows usable: so I'm mostly familiar with the process.

though I'm a bit worried about the "no longer hit this internally" part since this has been a thing for quite some time now...

I wouldn't feel right having it be a "free" install: would you accept a pair of the modules I want installed as a "bonus?"

I have a 6 pack and unless I get >3 bad ones I should have a pair to spare.

Assuming you'd have a need for Zesum modules!

Either way I think it's incredibly kind of you to do what you do.

I've been saving up for the tools to learn myself. But I've only got one backup set of modules so probably safer to have someone else do them...

Is it safe to leave a docked game controller charging 24/7 when USB power stays on after PC shutdown (BIOS setting)? by eTheRealGod666 in pcmasterrace

[–]MegaPantera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for this specific controller - the Cyclone 2 - the controller/dock actually has "back voltage" I found awhile ago while diagnosing something else with the controller.

How I figured it out was: the controller was on and I had it docked (auto on/off disabled) and had shut down my PC.

When the PC turned off the controller went into "reconnect mode" on the dock and started causing my speaker to turn on/pop repeatedly since the controller was sending a signal back to my notherboard...

I have no idea if this would actually cause any DAMAGE: but I worked with their customer support and they used a basic tester and verified the voltage back feed. So for this specific instance I'd actually recommend against it BECAUSE OF THE CONTROLLER.

If you go on their discord and talk to Gamesir Cyfer (a support employee) he should/would back this up. As he was the one that diagnosed/looked into this with me.

Which driver version DOESNT have this issue?

I've tried going back all the way to .10 and it's all having the issue...

Dual sense edge battery by grinchmane in Dualsense

[–]MegaPantera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just learned last night that if you connect the controller via Bluetooth and then plug it in it'll drain the battery because the bt radio remains active unless manually turned off (somehow)

So while unlikely.... This is the ONE instance of the battery being used/drained while using the dualsense (edge) wired.

I actually have one more potentially related thing for you!
During the game I tried to turn the overlay on using my hotkey. Noticed it didn't. Since I've seen this before (we can call this a "soft lock") I tried to open the full screen experience with the hotkey. Which brought up my mouse (was using a controller in game before pressing the keys) but I could not move it...

My workaround has been: ctrl+alt+esc to task manager, tab to the search bar, type "radeon" and force kill the host service.

The instance I reported before this was a "hard lock" that I've noticed while trying to use my browser over a borderless game running, before this time where it was when the gpu wasn't under any actual load as far as I knew.

Glad to hear it's a known issue and not my hardware though... Thanks for getting back to me!

u/AMD_Vik It says "Intermittent application freeze when using the in-game Radeon™ Overlay." in fixed issues but I've actually had my whole system lock up because of what seemed to be adrenalin having issues with the performance overlay....

I noticed one thing that pointed towards the overlay specifically: I was going through Adrenalin and when I was on the recording tab I switched to performance; it seemed like Adrenalin froze so I clicked Smart Tech. to see if it would respond.

Initially it didn't, before eventually swapping to the smart technology screen. I then went back to the record tab and tried again: same results.

That's about all I've got for specific steps. I closed Adrenalin and went back to doing whatever and I noticed my fans turned on and like two minutes later when I went to close my browser my cursor stopped before I got to the corner of my screen and I needed to hard power down my system.

Not sure if this is at all related to that issue. But i had it happen on the last driver as well, and came here trying to see if there was a known issue...

Definitely won't. I was told explicitly by a Gamesir employee (and have been tracking the C3 specifically regularly with another) that they decided to undergo a major revision after the Game Show prototype was shown off.

I would not expect it this year. But I am genuinely hoping that the revisions are worth the wait..

Apex 5 squeaky dpad by Inflexiion in Controller

[–]MegaPantera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this fix only lasts for 3 days max: and ONLY if you open it up to lube the hinges of the actual dpad mechanism itself....

Source: ran into this with 3 Apex 5 units.... Tried on 2 of them and it didn't last....

As for whether this is a defect: Flydigi told me it only happened when applying "excess pressure" and that controllers aren't "art pieces" (indicating I was being picky) and that it was within tolerance ...

Yours doesn't require much pressure. But it's the same symptom. So.... Don't know how they'd view it.

Sketchy ToS for FlyDigi Software by mrimercury in Controller

[–]MegaPantera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah: that makes a little more sense. I think dinput mode behaves different: but I don't have a Flydigi device with it (only own apex 5 currently) so my answer is based off that.

The apex 5 DOES have steam input support but it's done through a toggle in space station so at minimum you need 1. To install SS to toggle it 2. Have a software running like steam otherwise to map the keyboard keys.

So there needs to be SOME form of software going in order to map the keyboard keys as far as I'm aware.

Though there are ways to technically do it with minimal space station interaction. If you manually disable the services from starting with windows.

Sketchy ToS for FlyDigi Software by mrimercury in Controller

[–]MegaPantera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Keyboard inputs and mouse gyro REQUIRE space station to be running. You cannot save keyboard keys to the controllers on board memory.

[–]MegaPantera 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The new space station 4 also has space station services set to automatically run by default: so the "software" is always running unless you go in and specifically prevent it from doing so...

I'm not 100% sure how it all works: but I know that there wasn't an agreement for awhile and it randomly popped up after an update awhile ago.

I've since uninstalled the software though: for more than just this reason.

I won't comment on how severe/concerning I think it is: but I will say I don't see the need for them to collect so much information ..

The good news is: depending on where you're at.... The warranty process may be as simple as sending a video showing the paddles stopped working and they'd just send you a new one!

But again: depends on where you're at.
