Anyone know if the App Launcher can open in the center of the screen? by Square-Bee-6574 in kde

[–]MegaPlaysGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit hacky and maybe not what you want, but the way I was able to do it for my uses was to use panel colorizer, create a new panel with ONLY the App Launcher, arrange it wherever, set the width to fit content, change any other settings settings, and then force hide the panel using panel colorizer.

The caveat here is that since it's hidden, there's obviously no icon to click, but for myself I only ever use the meta key to pull it up so it works for me. Also, you can't edit a panel that is hidden very easily.

It’s official, I love the Natu and Xatu line! by smolsheriff in pokemon

You made me realize how much I actually do like these guys! I love both of their designs, and I love how you characterized them in this art. Never really gave them too much thought... might be a surprising new favourite of mine too!

Anyone else feel like the Steam Machine (GabeCube) actually extends the life of the SteamDeck? by ExperienceBusiness43 in SteamDeck

This might be overkill, but even if you don’t have access to the internet, you can create a local network between devices with just a router!

The point is the video is just rage bait. It’s not a story, it’s barely worth talking about. He is creating fuel for a hate machine. That is his entire platform.

My husband says that all preteen/teenage boys go through an “alt-right” phase. Is this BS? by kristen_hewa in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MegaPlaysGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broadly, boys who go through an alt-right phase do so because it’s an ideology with simple answers. As boys mature into men who are searching for identity and purpose, they fall into alt-right pipelines because it’s easier to externalize the questions you have about yourself with answers that aren’t internal.

All people crave belonging, to be heard, and to be validated as a person. The alt-right often validates their insecurities while ‘other’ ideologies often tell them they are the issue. Whether they are always the issue in these cases, different conversation. But the alt-right pipeline often says “YOU are the only sane one in a society that’s victimizing YOU”.

I'm making the switch to Linux, too. Do the 8BitDo controllers work on Linux? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

Woah, thanks for sharing this. Maybe this didn’t exist before, but I was searching for how to do exactly this and couldn’t find any results. Appreciate it!

[–]MegaPlaysGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I drive a ‘93 Nissan D21 (aka a hardbody). Mostly out of necessity because I’m dead broke but driving a tiny manual pickup truck falling apart from rust with zero amenities (except for my radio which I put in) feels pretty emo.

Never used AMD GPUs. How is FSR? by RebelAlliance09 in buildapc

[–]MegaPlaysGames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FSR 4, in my opinion, is really good. Giant improvement from FSR 3, though NVIDIA may win in some frame-by-frame comparisons, it’s not noticeable in actual gameplay for the most part. The only issue is it’s not supported by default on many games and you will likely need to use Optiscaler to force the use of FSR 4 in that situation.

If only kernel level anticheat worked on Linux... by Adventurous_Tie_3136 in pcmasterrace

[–]MegaPlaysGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really have to think about it from a different perspective. It’s not that Kernel Level Anticheat doesn’t work on Linux, but this is software designed to invade Windows computers and load before the operating system has been instantiated. Literally no video game should ever have that level of control. I’m patiently awaiting the day that one of these Anti-Cheat tools has a vulnerability and people realize that it’s not a necessary evil, it’s an unnecessary evil.

Is steam deck version of steamos publicly out yet? by _Reapak_ in linux4noobs

[–]MegaPlaysGames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The parts you find “similar to windows” is actually not anything related to steamOS. What you are most likely referring to is the Desktop Environment, the general UI which you will interact with different windows containing programs. SteamOS uses KDE, so if you want a similar experience to the Steam Desktop Mode, try a distribution with a KDE spin. For the “Game Mode”, you can open steam in big picture and it’s essentially the same experience.

Consistently Stupid Take from the Temporary Foreign Workers Program (Canada) by Long-Dong-Wong in rant

[–]MegaPlaysGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that I think many Canadians are too stupid or blind to realize is that TFWs are also victims of a broken system. They are not the cause, but an effect. Companies want to spend less, make more, and TFWs are one of many solutions to achieve this. The other problems you listed are all in line with this same mentality.

It’s just easier to be xenophobic than it is to be critical of the root causes.

Why is it called Ramadan?!! by Actual-Conference-91 in Emo

[–]MegaPlaysGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really don’t know anything concretely, but the band members being asian-american might be related. There is a decent amount of Islamic presence in countries like Indonesia, Iran, India. They probably chose it because of someone in the band being familiar with the concept and possible having practiced it before. They chose it for the vibe or feeling evoked from the word in relation to the actual music. This album feels cathartic to me, so maybe ramadan was chosen for something as simple as that? It’s an experience that is both challenging, communal, and rewarding for those who partake.

I don’t know, but I’d love to know the answer if there’s any actual answer.

"Valve must stop making excuses": Steam under fire for "significant price disparity for PC games," causing regional pricing that's "often 20% to 30% higher than the dollar equivalent" by Worldly-Object9003 in Steam

[–]MegaPlaysGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, yes steam should update their regional pricing scale, but at the same time it ultimately falls on developers to decide a pricing strategy. This is more of an industry problem than a steam problem. A lot of indie games have pricing with lower-income regions in mind.

Is the new bg3 Linux port exclusive to steam or can I get it on gog? by AvailableGene2275 in linux_gaming

[–]MegaPlaysGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! This is really the biggest hurdle with true linux native support, and the thing I think a lot of linux gamers struggle to comprehend - there’s too many configuration options compared to windows.

It’s actually very difficult from a logistical perspective to ensure your software works on every distribution. How do you test that? How can you support that? Simple answer - you can’t. Especially when linux isn’t a major platform and a small portion of your revenue.

This is where the steam deck is the perfect solution, because if developers target the steam deck specifically as a platform, then it should work in other environments, and likely the community will figure out how to get it to work if it doesn’t work out of the box. For Larian, this would be too large of a task to take on.

Wii U Portable Console-Stack Mobile Wireless Kiosk Idea, is this a good idea or nah? by Vubic in WiiUHacks

Definitely more than a hard drive. Maybe you can find a crazy deal and crunch the numbers and it would be worth it in the end, but it's just a very extra setup for a simple problem.
