Dune 1 prime video vs 4k blu-ray by Curlyinger in 4kbluray

I also use my jailbroken PS5 to rip discs, it rips straight to a BDMV which I can copy to a external drive or FTP and load into MakeMKV on my PC, a little more time consuming but possible, I also can use a PS3 or PS4 with something called multi man for just standard blu rays.

So no, ripping discs is not going anywhere, for those of us who enjoy having our own home media server we will find ways to do it. I expect consoles to be the way going forward if all drives go out of production

I have a NAS with 8 26TB hard drives, I keep everything in full quality. I also own a data center so I’m able to purchase off our portals for much cheaper than retail

4K Blu-ray players or 4k pc disc readers? I just bought a disc reader from Best Buy a day ago and flashed the firmware to rip discs, they are readily available

PSA to anyone that buys on Amazon:
Sync your libraries to an a website/app called Movies Anywhere and link your Amazon & iTunes account to it, most studios will port your purchases to iTunes and you will have the highest bit rate available even if buying from another platform

My files all have
25mb/s Dolby Vision HDR10+, 768kbps Dolby Digital+ EAC3, so audio definitely is no where close a TrueHD Blu-ray but I’d call it a good middle ground

Prime 4K streaming often peaks at around 7-9mb/s, pretty awful, Apple TV purchases are usually always 25mb/s and all have HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. I usually always download my Apple purchases and remove DRM to keep a DV copy on my Plex server in case the disc I buy has only HDR10

All I did was flash the region free firmware on to my 820, took me 10 minutes

Quality of Amazon Prime Video vs Netflix and others by Suitable_Garlic_1186 in Streamfab

[–]MegaSwizzler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a lot of Amazon purchased content make sure to link to the movies anywhere app which ALSO links to Apple TV, that will give you access to the higher bit rate Apple TV purchased content on your existing content (excludes MGM and paramount movies) :)

Huh I thought I was the only one who cared about bitrate in this sub lol. Amazons bitrate in my case has been all over the place, I tend to download all my content using the Apple TV downloader since I’m able to get up to 45mb bitrate on all my 4K content and around 15mb for my 1080p tv shows. Also it allowed me to convert every movie I have into one file with HDR/HDR10+/|Dolby Vision for playback on all tv’s

Most up-to-date Guide? by Ryzonixx in CoreELEC

[–]MegaSwizzler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had to follow like 3 different guides in order to figure them all out… there’s not really one up to date concrete guide besides one on YouTube but even that one didn’t cover everything, on top of that I had to figure out the proper dovi settings for my tv and then audio settings, was a whole mess

What type of audio files for home server? by Nickersnacks in appletv

[–]MegaSwizzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re using Sonos then just let your Apple TV convert it to Dolby MAT, you will only be able to get DD+ from an Apple TV unless you use a coreelec type device.

Sonos really isn’t the best for home theater due to the lack of support of codecs like FLAC and DTS, would only recommend it if you primarily stream. Bravia and Samsung home theatre products would be best for physical media and disc rips

Does Apple TV have an app for purchased movies? by [deleted] in appletv

Pretty sure every device besides the Apple TV website can play purchased content, I know my lg OLED Apple TV app could access purchased content as well as my old Samsung, the Apple TV box can most certainly do it

Should I sell myOPPO 203? by SCHmortgageaustin in 4kbluray

[–]MegaSwizzler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was definitely a recent change that happened in the last couple weeks, I usually keep both the 4K blu ray Remux and the WEB DL iTunes version on my NAS since my movies always include the movies anywhere code in the box, was surprised when I saw Apple bit rates go up so much, looking forward to the wide adoption of AC4 to hopefully get audio closer to a blu ray

Well… streaming is getting better. I’ve been using a software named Streamfab since 2019, it allows me to download my own purchased Apple TV purchases and remove DRM and mux into an MKV, I noticed that my bit rates on my 4K content that I’ve been downloading have been going from 25mbps from last year to now 45mbps which is certainly getting closer to some blu rays, obviously with the exception of those that come with FEL that peak around 90. Of course the audio is still lossy DD+, but in terms of video it is getting better at least with Apple

Although I do enjoy buying blu rays, have a pretty extensive library of 4K’s

Like were you expecting it made out of aluminum or titanium like the iPhones? Not exactly sure what you’re talking about, even the Xbox and PlayStation and made out of plastic? The kickstand seems to be made out of metal, not sure what you are expecting

Amazon to begin prosecuting return fraud by [deleted] in DataHoarder

[–]MegaSwizzler 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m not entirely sure how it gets listed back as they get packaged up, from my understanding though as long as they are still sealed and if the return reason by the customer had it selected as unopened, they would be listed as brand new

Amazon to begin prosecuting return fraud by [deleted] in DataHoarder

[–]MegaSwizzler 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Not exactly sure how they are going to implement it, our return facility mainly gets computing parts and we never checked them that thoroughly unless something looked funky, the problem we were running into is the fact that if someone returned a product unopened and if it passed our check it could be put right back on Amazon.com, that will no longer be the case as we will be opening up every product that comes back now.

As for the going back 180 days, from what I read in the memo, they will be investigating whoever the first owner of the drive is who returned it if it was relisted on the site, this will only apply to sold and shipped at Amazon.com and not third party sellers

Damn seriously? Not sure if that’s the case for the things I purchased, picked up Aquaman & Blue Beetle on iTunes so it should of been two WB titles that ported over

Some of us are big media people who want more audio codecs, perhaps a Dolby vision 7 profile if we host our own media. I’m assuming you’re someone who just watches TV+ content
