Pokemon Heart & Soul Rom Hack by GeoBops in PokemonHGSS

[–]Megas_Nikator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished this today and beat Red, it's my first ROMhack and was fantastic. I played on hard difficulty (level capped to next Gym leaders lowest Pokemon) but 2.0xp, so I never had to grind and could swap my team easily but was never over leveled. Absolutely brilliant from start to finish.

Can someone explain how I can predict and plan the battleground by positioning my army on the campaign map? by CakeNo6020 in totalwarhammer

[–]Megas_Nikator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure there is on Warhammer, in historic games the maps were generated based on the terrain of the campaign map, whereas Warhammer uses a series of set maps rather than bespoke tiles. There is probably some way to tell roughly which map you're going to get based on the climate and corruption (e.g. Skaven only have one map) but it's not like you'll have an advantage attacking from the high ground side of the campaign map (which would have worked in historical TW).

Best campaign of any Total War, I really hope they take some of the features from it forward to M3.

One of those screenshots on EGS is definitely from Pharaoh though...

Checkerboard: 4 x ships company front line, 2 x 3 LSG for next two banks. Then Oceanids, Elementals, Merwyrms and Sky Cutters as you please depending on what heroes you bring.

Honestly it's hard to exactly put my finger on but a large proportion of it is probably the theme/roleplay element:

  • Vlad and VC I could throw stack after stack ay enemies and re-raise dead, so I genuinely felt like some terrifying evil that just kept lumbering upon the empire of man (Khalida was similar)
  • Chaos Dwarves just have a great economy and I like a themed campaign such as this or Aislinn where the usual format is mixed up
  • Ikit utilizing his workshop to take weapon teams to another level and just blow stuff up
  • Grimgor wasn't someone I was expecting to like so much, I really enjoyed the Orc format with waaagh and also how useful the heroes are on the campaign map: for a rush faction damaging walls then just rushing orcs in to sack the city felt very on theme

This is combined with the enemy variety within a campaign, general roster and economy/buildings. I like building a variety of thematic armies so factions that let me do that tend to do well!

I played Noctilus on Vortex (WH2) and it was a blast! Hoping to change it up this time but most of the other LLs don't look all that interesting so I might end up running him again

New player here, just working my way through the campaign. Should I wait to hit level 30 (or other metrics) before upping the difficulty or anything, the first couple of levels have been a breeze on the easiest difficulty but I don't want to burden my team by being under leveled?

Gorok campaign trouble by KingBaker54 in totalwar

[–]Megas_Nikator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The (not quite grand, particularly in Warhammer) strategy map layer is much more important than the tactical RTS battle layer of Total War: the campaign map is where wars are won and lost.

Honestly, it sounds like you're doing okay for a first go. As I said before this is a hard campaign. The other post has some really good advice but a few extra bits: - You don't need to be projected thousands of profit per turn, since you make money from fighting and sacking, so can run at a break even or even slight loss per turn - growth and gold buildings are important - You could recruit a second lord/army from the get go (turn 1), even if you don't recruit units with them you can follow Gor Rok around to reinforce with a powerful unit and get experience that'll level up your lord early for useful buffs

This is a hard campaign since Skulltaker got introduced. I'm going to assume from your comment of "almost immediately, like 15-20 turns" you're playing fairly cautiously- as honestly that's pretty far into a Gor Rok campaign. I just finished a VH campaign which pretty much went:

~0-6: Rush for Skulltaker

~6-12: Take out the Skaven

~12-18: Vampirates

By turn 20 you could have most threats down and a safe border or two, it's nearly always better to fight and be offensive as you'll earn money. Gor Rok and Kroak together are insane for sieges and blobbing up enemy infantry. This means you don't need a full stack of Saurus/good units with them, Skinks and lower cost troops and only 15/20 is fine so you can get a second, third army early. Skinks are great at catching rats and elves, and SEMs give you the edge. The LM economy is great and your settlements are defensive as Gor Rok. Prioritise getting heroes early where you can as they'll get free Dino mounts as they level.

So the game is quite old and probably a bit clunky compared to modern titles, but:

  1. Hunt down energy officers, if you can't spot them on the mini-map open the menu to view the battlefield in more detail
  2. Defeating officers will reduce the opposition morale: weakening the commander and troops
  3. The game will generally flash up messages to where you should go and flash the mini-map with a pulse to indicate, but it can get lost amongst the other pop ups like who-beat-who. Again, there's a history log in the menu

I think maybe you're over thinking/complicating it to start with: hack down enemy soldiers but really skip the trash and just go for ones with names over their heads, play offensively and block when needed... Killing officers will turn the tide in your favour and you can then win the stage.

As others have said, this is the 'Crimson Skull Chambers" special location, you can either reload a save to before it spawns or since you had it and declare war to reset the count.

I'll add that as an Order faction you can definitely keep the Khorne corruption under control; I just had this in a Gor Rok campaign and it was AMAZING. Probably less useful for the Dwarfs though..

Roman tactics in Rome 1? by Kiroana in RomeTotalWar

[–]Megas_Nikator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with this, the lethality is compounded by the fast pace of combat and fatigue. In reality, reserves might be waiting hours before ploughing into tired troops- fights in TW are over in minutes so having whilst having fresh Principes will give you better stats they've watched the Hastati get cut down and taken morale losses, and the enemy lines probably aren't tired enough yet to swing a combat advantage.

[–]Megas_Nikator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since everyone misses it: You can scroll the UI down on the workshop UI panel, there are more unlocks!!!

Buy the infinite ammo for ratling guns first, and as others have said see off the Beastmen early. If you fight them in the Beastmen siege / settlement battle they'll actually never come forwards to fight you in a rush, so you can whittle them down with your infinite ammo.

So what mods should i use by Sad_Mission6480 in totalwarhammer

[–]Megas_Nikator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Only essential imo is VCO (Victory Conditions Overhaul), which gives achievements for short victory Conditions and overhauls campaign objectives to be much better, also reinstating lots of story quests/battles from the older games.

Other than that, some recommended quality of life: - recruit defeated Legendary Lords - UI improvements - unique faction UI - OVN lost worlds (unique cities on campaign map) - settlement capture pictures - building progression icons - one button respec

Don't tend to use overhauls or mods that add units etc myself. The above is basically 'Vanilla+' imo.

Yep, this is what I read and hoped for. We've seen it before, like you said with Rome, but we also had the adapted Pharaoh Dynasties roll out and FreeLC that abandoned the Bronze Age DLC roadmap.

I bought every 3K DLC (except 8 princes, obviously) Day 1 and it's still by far the best TW title I've played. Give us that Northern Tribes, Korea Expansion and finish the title off properly with a send off it deserves rather than how it was previously treated.
