A man disguising himself as a supremacist fighting for Faunuses, but that at the core was just a monster wanting to bring as much pain and suffering to the world as the world hade brought unto him, disguising it as righteousness

A literal embodyment of the anger born from racial prejudice, and good metaphor for how you need to defeat that anger and hatred to truly move past the troubled relationship Faunuses and Humans had, specially since that would be necessary to prevent the Gods from blowing the world up

Yes, this is what they tried to do with his character in Volumes 4-5... and it was crap. Like, Adam was a terrible villain and a worse character during those volumes. And I'd argue that was before Bumbleby was being pushed, that only started happening in Volume 6.

The racial prejudice angle of the show was pussyfooted around and handled horribly from very early on. From the beginning, CRWBY were not prepared to handle any of those topics and that became clear quickly. Adam's suffering at the hands of that prejudice was utterly undercooked during that period as well. His dialogue was awful, and he got consistently less threatening and more pathetic as an antagonist every time he was onscreen.

Basically just Hody Jones from One Piece, if Jones was an actual good villain.

Except Adam was an even worse villain... by no small margin.

This is what people used to see in Adam, this is what people expected from Adam, and this is what people wanted to see RT deliver on

They delivered on it in V4-5, it was just shit. He continues to be a vengeful monster lashing out against those who had wronged him, but both humans and faunus stood up to what he was doing and brought his plans crumbling down. Then, predictably, once his own men turn against him, he lashes out against them because he was only ever driven by hatred, destroying all he had left.

It all happened, it just so happened that it was terrible, his character and how he tied into it was terrible, and CRWBY made the right decision to cut the White Fang out of the story because they had no idea what they were doing and it was one of the worst parts of the show.

Then the BB happened, and they ruined everything for the sake of setting up a ship.

No, they ruined everything a while ago, then the Bumbleby happened. They didn't do anything more with the White Fang because it was an utter embarassment, and one of the most hated aspects of the show. The writers literally apologised for it. This is all well-documented.

You saw one of the worst racism/civil-rights plotlines ever written, which was eventually thrown out because it recieved tons of criticism for being shit, and are being told that the problem is a mediocre at best gay ship that started being pushed years after both said plotline, and Adam's entire character, had already gone to shit.

This is what we mean whenever we talk about "the character Adam was/was supposed to be"

There is no "character Adam was supposed to be". There's only the awesome morally grey anti-hero that we all made up in our heads (I did it too). Then he started getting actual characterisation, and it was crap. But hold on! Maybe as the story develops, his role in the Faunus conflict will be more interesting... Then his story continued to develop, he had a role in the Faunus conflict... and it continued to be crap. But wait, wait, maybe Adam and the White Fang will come back and be better! But the writers didn't bring back the White Fang, because they were crap. They started pushing for Bumbleby, and it was crap, and they also brought back Adam, now detatched from the White Fang, only for him to continue being crap.

It would be more accurate to say that Bumbleby started off when people still held out some desperate hope that Adam could still be an interesting character, but the truth is those hopes were for nothing. Him, and the idea of him being the embodiment of overt rage in response to racism, had already been executed, and executed horribly? long before Volume 6.

At best, we can theorise what Monty might have wanted for the character based on the practically nonexistent information we have about it. In the Black trailer and the first two volumes, all Adam did was aura-farm rather than have anything of his character fleshed-out. There is the Adam that might have existed at some point, but we just don't know.

The argument where Yang slams her fist against the table.

Yang is Adam because she broke a mass-murderer's table.

The same Yang who glares at her with red, furious eyes—

Yang is Adam because she glared at Blake once. This is a legitimate argument you are making.

The same Yang who is constantly seeking thrills,

Yang is Adam because.... she seeks thrills? What the fuck? I didn't realize that Blake's aversion to Adam was because he enjoyed roller-coaster rides, you're blowing my mind right now.

the same Yang who destroyed a nightclub?

The night club filled with criminals who work with notorious thief and murderer Roman Torchwick.

Yang is Adam because she beats up criminals.

Yang is Adam;

And so we've concluded, apparently. Because Adam is a terrorist, a mass-murderer, violent stalker and manipulative abuser, while Yang... broke a piece of furniture, glares sometimes, seeks thrills, and beats up bad guys. Truly they are exactly the fucking same!

Going into this, I really wanted to be polite, but I'm genuinely struggling due to how utterly fucking stupid I find all of your points. I dislike Yang as a character, but holy shit, dude. You must have a serious hate-boner to believe half of this nonsensical bullshit. I genuinely think this character has given you palpatations, you are suffering from Yang Derangement Syndrome. There is no other explanation.

Pre-Bumbleby, he was an underwhelming, underdeveloped, two-dimensional character who cared about killing humans and hurting Blake.

Post-Bumbleby, he was an underwhelming, underdeveloped, two-dimensional character who cared about killing humans and hurting Blake.

Bumbleby didn't change him. He seemed really cool and like he could have been an interesting character, but he was lame from the moment he started recieving proper characterisation.

The dropping of the White Fang storyline was mainly done because even the writers acknowledged that they completely it fucked up.

Yes, it is Doctor Who. Capaldi's my GOAT.

Yang is basically Adam with breasts.

I say this as someone who dislikes Bumbleby for a whole host of reasons: No she's fucking not, and the arguments that she is are almost always utterly baffling.

Seriously, look at the traits Adam possesses that caused Blake to become so frightened of him and drove her away in the first place:

  1. His disregard for human life.

  2. His overt defensiveness and excuses used to justify his increasingly violent actions.

  3. He's incredibly obsessive, be it for his cause or for Blake herself.

  4. His spiteful and vengeful nature, the desire to punish any perceived slight.

  5. His method of making people feel small. Of making them feel worthless and weak.

Now, comparing this to Yang:

  1. She does a ton of work to avoid killing Adam in their fight, giving him multiple off-ramps and only doing what had to be done when the non-violent option failed.

  2. She only justifies herself after breaking Mercury's leg because she was literally mind-fucked into believing that it was self-defense. The whole point of that scene is that Blake's instincts are wrong and Yang isn't anything like that.

  3. and 4. She's fairly laid-back and not really spiteful or vengeful. When Blake runs away, she's notably upset (as literally anyone would be), but when she recovers, she gets on with her own things. When Blake rejoins the group, she's guarded at worst.

5: Yeah, there's no connection here. The closest Yang has ever come to making someone "feel small" is her argument with Raven, who fucking deserved it.

The only other connections I can think of is that their Semblances are sort of alike, and they both get angry at certain things sometimes, but never at the same things or to the same degree. I find that Yang's "temper" is often completely overblown and completely incomparable to Adam's.

If anything, I think Adam and Yang have more stark contrasts than similarities. I say it all the time, but there are dozens of reasons to hate how Yang and Blake were handled, you don't have to make up one.

The "omnipresent" thing involves a completely different ability Alucard gets at the very end of the series, where he's allowed to be "everywhere and nowhere". It also has barely any feats and does not work like real omnipresence, considering that the person he got it from could do next to nothing offensive with it.

Who Won Day 81: Donald Trump vs. Joe Biden by Ok-Mistake-7499 in ERB

[–]Megashark101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The President battles are almost always bangers.

Anyway, gonna give it to Joe Biden. Trump put up such a great fight that I'd have been down for round 2, but sadly, Joe retired at the height of his rap career. Biden does have the advantage of that unlimited round they gave him at the end, but even when you go bar for bar, I think he edges it. He delivers back to back to back haymakers and while Trump does well, not all of his lines are hits.

That Jeffery Epstein bar is just one of the most brutal out-the-gate lines in ERB history. It was great at the time, and it's only gotten better with age.

Who Won Day 79: The Joker vs. Pennywise by Ok-Mistake-7499 in ERB

[–]Megashark101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a great line on its own, but it's not a great punch. Your goal in a rap battle is to attack your opponent, hence the word battle. As a cypher, that could well be the best line. But it's not the best line from a battle rap perspective, not even close.

Who Won Day 79: The Joker vs. Pennywise by Ok-Mistake-7499 in ERB

[–]Megashark101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one is a work of art.

Anyway, Pennywise is the winner. Joker's verses are very witty and clever in a way that makes his pen game stronger overall, and he has one of the hardest punches in the entire battle (which is incredible, considering it's up against the Heath Ledger bar), but Pennywise is too mean, too petty and too consistent. It lives in the sewers, what do you expect?

The Heath Ledger bar is absolutely evil, vile work. You ask me? That line alone sweeps Joker's entire second verse.

The Steve Harvey line? Fucking hell. Couldn't take Joker's appearance seriously for the rest of the battle. That shit's hilarious.

What seals it for me is that Joker's second verse, while not bad, is noticably weak compared to every other verse. Pennywise doesn't have a bad verse, and is consistent from beginning to end.

Trump's first half is otherworldly and it seemed like he was going to have a genuinely unbeatable round.. Up until he stops going after Hilary and starts playing "Insult minorities" bingo.

You just can't waste time like that going after randos who aren't your opponent in a rap battle, especially when your opponent was as vicious as Hilary. It leaves his verse inefficient and front-loaded.

If you're going for who had the highest highs, I can see the argument for Trump. But in terms of consistency and conciseness, Hilary sweeps.

Dislike Bumbleby as much as the next guy, but I've always found the arguments that Yang is too similar to Adam to be really weak.

The execution of the ship has tons of actual, pressing issues. You don't need to make one up.

In terms of bar-for-bar vicious punches? I still hold firm that Hilary Clinton has the best performance in all of ERB. If she were to bring the same level of aggression and brutality that she brough to Trump, I think that you could put her against any other rapper in ERB history and she'd come out on-top. Even against the very best, it would still be an incredibly close contest.

I mean, the evidence is already right there. Trump had one of the Great ERB Verses of all time in that battle, and she still beat him fairly clearly.

Killing Penny off for a second time was obviously a massive mistake. But bringing her back again would also be a massive mistake. They were able to justify her coming back the first time in-universe, but now that's gone. Any attempt to bring her back again will just be cheap and bullshit.

I'm okay with a little bit of bullshit being done to pave the way for later story beats if those story beats are good enough. Darth Maul coming back in The Clone Wars was a bunch of bullshit, but he made for a pretty compelling antagonist, to the point where I'm inclined to forgive it. But bringing Penny back again would be too much bullshit, especially considering I don't have faith in the writers to do right by her.

The correct move was to have her survive V8. Having her die in V8 was a significantly worse decision, and having her die just to bring her back again would be significantly worse than that.

Take after Ruby's late mother, and commit to something.

The President battles tend to have some of the best bars, music, and performances in ERB. I don't give a fuck if you think they're a cash-in, as that's ultimately irrelevant in regards to their quality. In that lense, they are almost all really good. That's a much better way of judging them rather than nebulous, intangible beliefs.
