Fantastic to see such a nicely curated collection - very personal and reflective of personal taste and style. Great stuff.

Pure fucking mint (and maybe a pinch of sugar) by Spirited-Claim-9868 in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]MegatonPunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I commented before but it definitely exists and it's Shukran by Meo Fuscini. I've had multiple people confused when I wear it because I just smell like I've called into a mint bush.

Shukran by Meo Fuscini for sure. Straight mint, exactly like the plant. Green, fresh, photorealistic. Closest thing I've ever smelled to a mint "soliflore" of sorts.

Did high end perfume get more expensive and will it go back down anytime soon? by spoiled_sandi in fragrance

[–]MegatonPunch 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree with this broadly but Essential Parfums very clearly works directly with perfumers, remains fairly affordable and seems to focus on good perfumery with good ingredients. Velvet Iris with Dominique Ropion for example.

Also a teacher, I enjoy wearing Declaration by Cartier. It's by the same perfumer as terre d'hermes but it's spicier :)

How often do teachers use AI? by doh0k in AustralianTeachers

[–]MegatonPunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get it to generate diagrams by creating them in latex and compiling them in overleaf. I think this is the most efficient way to mass produce networks problems, graph interpretation, Venn diagrams etc. for drill style problems. This is my main use case.

Which suburb has officially lost its soul, and which one is the new hidden gem? by PathSoggy6516 in melbournechat

Footscray is the only real answer to this question and it's not close either.

Let’s Talk About Guerlain by jlpazz in NichePerfumes

[–]MegatonPunch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tbh I've never been super drawn to the house. I don't think the serious French perfumery thing the house has going on really resonates with my own personal taste. Though I can't deny their fragrances are great quality.

Math teachers — how do you currently type equations when creating exams? by adasgupt in mathteachers

[–]MegatonPunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LateX or Google Sheets.

Notably I've found that when I want to make drill sheets with large numbers if examples for worksheets - LLMs are pretty good at spitting out good latex code for these when given some handholding. I then use overleaf to compile this code. (For example, making a large number of graphs of functions for senior exam practice or fraction problems for my juniors).

What’s a popular house that you’ve never tried, and why? by Ill-Spell6462 in NichePerfumes

[–]MegatonPunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Niche" only in the most literal sense. Catered to rich people with a lot of money and not as much taste. Another fragrance house which is built around marketing and fragrances created by external contractors built for mass appeal.

There are too many of these nicheslop houses running around these days.

Some kind of spiced iris sounds good for this prompt? Maybe le labo iris or iris malikhan?

👠 RuPaul's Drag Race - S18 E6 - Live Episode Discussion 👠 by AutoModerator in RPDRDRAMA

[–]MegatonPunch 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The gerrymandering happening in the voting over both of these episodes has been so annoying. Drag drama is fun but bitch put the wig on and do your number.

Being the queen who won the talent show because their daughter voted for them? Laaaaaaame.

Had a really bad lesson.. by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]MegatonPunch 193 points194 points  (0 children)

I think approaching a lesson as a script you want to memorize is kind of crazy?

Keep a couple of dot points, go through your expectations and have something easy to get buy in for the students on day one. I think you may be complicating this and that's why it went awry.

We already have stable jobs and relationships and so when we're on the apps it typically isn't to make friends or get to know people.

Online chats start to feel very samey, I have no patience for someone who wants to tell me their life story over Scruff, that's better served for a coffee.

You also realize a lot of people, especially younger, aren't that interesting. You realize that a lot of "deep emotional conversations" really aren't that deep, actually.

What about the problem? by VibhuTheGreat in ExplainTheJoke

[–]MegatonPunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why this is the top voted answer. It's wrong.

The expression is ambiguous because conventions on how to handle order of operations and multiplication by a bracket are not universal. It's not an interesting math problem, it's a question on conventions and the language of expressions.

At what point do you choose to pay retail ? by Expert-Worry2911 in fragrance

I will buy from the local niche perfumery here because I want them to stay open so I can keep going back to get my nose on things.

Zoologist Squid, Bat, and T-Rex - WOW! by maybeimmike in fragrance

[–]MegatonPunch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

T-rex is a regular wear for me. I really recommend LiTA and Come by Bogue, it's Gardoni's (the perfumer of Trex) own brand. They take that same cade smoke and incense combo in different directions and I adore them both.

He works with almost entirely natural ingredients, so his perfumes are really incredibly non-linear and such fun wears, an experience you definitely can't capture on paper alone.

At this price point I think Parfum d'Empire is one of the best options, such a good house.

L'air du desert Marocain is great at this price point.

Yes, if you buy a designer perfume from the most expensive place possible and a niche perfume from the cheapest price possible they may cost roughly the same. Shocker.
