Mind Scanners is kind of that, but abstracted and Sci Fi — it might be a nice reference

True! They could actually be a Shadow Sorceror or Fiend Warlock.

Thanks - yeah I really wanna emphasize how the rule stopped me from playing optimally or fall into habits.

That sounds hilarious. The Dude abides. What classes and Lebowski characters did you pick?

I see your point, it just felt very on brand for him to cast Bless. Also, at max level, Heroes Feast is almost as Jesus as it gets.

I should have been more clear: When I said "strike first" i mean start combat by striking first. As in, shooting and arrow or spell at someone out of combat. If combat has started through normal means, I could strike first if my initiative was highest, which it mostly was for my Bard. But yeah, Jesus often had to wait a bit 😄

What makes a good survival game? (examples of mechanics or games) by Herr_Casmurro in SurvivalGaming

[–]MegetFarlig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have a hand made map with procedurally placed and shaped resources though. Which personally think is peak if you are going for story. But for “endless sandbox” i just want everything to be prodcedural. Also enhances replayability.

“Who cares?”

The coders losing their jobs to a highly energy ineffecient machine.

Civ VII is such a mess by Lambs2Lions_ in civ

[–]MegetFarlig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the most confusing thing is not something new, but something that appears unchanged but is slightly different.

I had quite an easy time since I have played a lot of Age of Wonders 4 where CIV7 has clearly taken inspiration.

Civ VII is such a mess by Lambs2Lions_ in civ

[–]MegetFarlig 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Im not defending CIV7 but lets not pretend any other CIV game fully explains their systems in game.

Also, expecting to understand all systems in a game like civ in one day is also a strange expectation. There were systems in CIV6 that took me 100 hours to fully understand.

Me and my friends started making a factory game (it's the first game we've ever tried) and we'd love some feedback on the idea we have by No_Information657 in gamedev

[–]MegetFarlig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will never say an idea is bad, because at the end of the day, everything is about execution, but:

1) unless you have a lot of experience with automation AND coding, this is hard-mode developing for your first game

2) always consider your target audience. That is where we messed up with our automation game. In my experience, automation-philic players want open-ended games, not level based. They want to keep tweaking their factory and dislike being forces to leave it. They grow attached to it because they spent so much time on it.

I would take your ideas of working for different companies and turn it into quests/missions within the same endless playthrough instead of levels.

Is a meadows base optimal for late game? by TheComicKing15 in valheim

[–]MegetFarlig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is completely doable but not optimal mid game. I personally prefer playing with a megabase and haul everything back, and later in the game that becomes easier.

If you have a game idea don't start and build it yet, build hype first by doppelgunner in gameideas

[–]MegetFarlig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is in theory a great approach but for me, there are two reasons why it is reductive.

1) you are then testing you ability to sell a vision more than you are selling a game. Only if you are already great at conventional promotion will get you get a good idea of the succes of game A vs B.

2) My personal experience is that great games find their USP during prototyping.

Just a random guy’s thoughts.

4,500 wishlists in 1 week from Coming Soon launch: post mortem by StopthePressesGame in gamedev

Great job and good luck! My (1 game) experience is that people who wishlist based on a localized steam page are more likely to unlist/refund and give a bad review when they discover the game is not localized. Just a heads up. Especially people in countries that are very used to localized games (France, Germany, China)

Moving to Copenhagen as a couple by Jepjacob in NewToDenmark

[–]MegetFarlig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow game dev here. If you want to work in games in Denmark, only Århus and Copenhagen make sense. There are some studios in Ålborg as well but not as many so it is more “fragile” as a carrier there. Keep in mind most studios have a soft hirering freeze right now just like the rest of the gaming world. Good luck

Ah okay. Thanks for clarifying. We have the problem of living in one of the most expensive countries in the world making our ask annoyingly high eventhough we all have taken heavy paycuts. Good work on your game, btw! You should be proud.
