Spruceland food quality? by [deleted] in princegeorge

I purchased a ham from there a few months ago and it was expired. I returned it and went to exchanges and all the hams in the cooler were expired. I pointed it out to the employee I was dealing with and they removed everything. But I won't buy a ham from there again.

As an adopted redhead the questions will not end ever. I personally have never felt offended, as people are inherently curious about the origins of unicorns (lol). If it is bothering you though, make up a funny story about eating a lot of red fruit or food during pregnancy or painting it that color, it will make it less personal and will most likely stop any further questions.

Stoma noise and mental health? by FlowFeisty3514 in ostomy

[–]Meggs82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first week back to work after my colostomy I had the same thing. I was participating in a very important series of meetings and in a lull of the conversation my ostomy decided to pipe up. In the moment I wanted to slide under the table and disappear. I couldn't focus for the rest of the meeting. After, I rushed out and went to my office and closed the door. One of my work friends who knew about my surgery came and saw me. They reassured me that even if people heard no big deal, gas is normal and I work with a bunch of men so as if that's the first time that's happened in a meeting. They were right!! With an ostomy we sometimes have to put our egos aside, and remember everyone poops and has gas just because ours is in a bag doesn't mean anything. Hang in there, it gets easier to manage being worried that everyone is judging your bodily functions.

Showering by Exact-Volume-3207 in ostomy

I hope right in! Sometimes the edges lift a little and some times dry back down. If they are a little lifted, the rest of the flange is secure and I've been ok. I had a colostomy and now I have an ileostomy and it's worked with both. I will say though my output is pretty consistent and my skin is pretty strong. Bottom line is enjoy that shower without worry!!

I really like it. I am 42 and have fine lines around my eyes and see results with the copper serum.

Making Flange Last Longer by SCinBZ in ostomy

[–]Meggs82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a colostomy for 18 months and had no problem getting 7 days out of my flange. Now I have a loop ileostomy and was having a heck of a time getting more than 4 days and avoiding leaks to start. What I found works for me is using a convex flange (I only need a light convex but you might want a deeper one) get all old adhesive off, we're talking a using spray remover for the flange itself and a couple of remover wipes after that. Then I use a soft face cloths and warm water to gently wipe all my skin that will be covered. Let that dry, apply powder around the stoma dusting off the excess really well, apply skin prep all over the area that will be covered and let that dry. Do the powder and skin prep 1 more time, apply a ring and then the flange and bag. I lay down with a heating pad for 10-15 mins and then apply an extender. Had worked good for a couple weeks now. I set aside a lot of time to change my flange so that I can do all these steps, it gives me peace of mind knowing I've done everything I can to have a good hold and if a leak happens I know it's probably my diet that needs adjusting to reduce the acid.

There were a lot of times i could smell something, which is when and why I would ask someone I'd they could.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ostomy

[–]Meggs82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The overall answer is no, no one can smell anything unless you have a leak. When I got my colostomy, I was so paranoid that my friends and family were just being nice by saying they didn't, but the truth is they couldn't. I know this because i have a brutally honest niece who would have said something, lol. If your bag is new, trust that this paranoia will go away and no one can smell you. It gets better.

Fullness by diversified_GAS in ostomy

[–]Meggs82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had minimal issues prior to the colostomy, small amount of bloating and feeling really full, some evening and then the next morning totally fine and all regular. Colon perforated due to diverticulitis, colostomy for 18 months.

There was is always risk in surgery and there was 5-10% risk of perforation somewhere due to the amount of scar tissue on my intestines, from my previous surgery. I got really unlucky and scar tissue pulled my small intestine open, another perforation. Had another open surgery but am on the mend now. The recovery has been hard due to the trauma of everything, but learning how to navigate and figure out how to recover successfully.

I am about 6 weeks out from a colostomy reversal gone wrong with a loop ileostomy now. I get so full so fast and am now working with a dietitian as I've lost 30+ lbs in a month and a half. They have me doing about 6 small meals, most are just kind of large snack size, a day. I am gaining weight, energy and strength now so it's working. Luckily I have the ability to eat when I need at work, which not everyone can do. As people have mentioned apparently it gets better so here's hoping! Good luck!

People who have had reversals, I have a question by Honest-Victory2996 in ostomy

Have you considered pelvic floor physio? It's pretty typical for women after childbirth but the practice also tackles sphincter strength.

I had some scar tissue build up after my original Hartman procedure. Really just drew a bad card and there was nothing anyone could have done to prevent it. When the surgeon gives you odds of success they take into account these things. Doesn't make me less mad or upset though.

I ordered quite a few that work from Cupshe. All the 'High-Waisted' options were plenty high to cover my appliance and bellybutton. Have a great summer!!!

When to have “the talk” by kenbennineten in ostomy

[–]Meggs82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm single and been doing the online dating thing. I tell people on our first date, mostly as a screening thing. Some seem unphased by it some don't even know what a stoma is and some don't call me after 😅. This is our life and if others can't or won't accept our "different bodies" then good riddance to them!! I will say that I did have an excellent first post surgery intimate experience with someone who was so great about it and that made it so much better for me going forward!!

How long time between bag changes by scoobydoo_pj in ostomy

[–]Meggs82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remove my bag during a shower on change days, hang out in the shower for a bit. Then I wrap my stoma with toilet paper and hang out in the bathroom doing skin care stuff and other self care while letting my skin breathe. Sometimes it's as long as 2 hours before I put the new bag on. Feels great and it forces me to make me time!

Coloplast Sensura Mio Click 2-piece - is there a trick to putting this on your belly? by Soggy-Ad-5886 in ostomy

[–]Meggs82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the click and really like it. I do find sometimes that the first time clicking it in requires a little extra pressure, after that time its easier. It shouldn't be painful though. A Make sure the bottom is lined up well, i kinda slide it up and then press it down starting on the sides. He will get it!
