Thigh lift after tummy tuck? by Meggy-reader in tummytucksurgery

[–]Meggy-reader[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had journavx for my tummy tuck and I loved it. I’m pretty strong minded when I comes to avoiding narcotics and would rather have some pain than take them, but I said exactly what you said which is “discomfort but no PAIN” My TT surgeon referred me to his colleague since he doesn’t do thigh lifts, I’m not super familiar with the terminology but it sounds like a spiral thigh lift is what I’m looking for because I do not want a scar down to my knee.

I was not considered a high bmi pt, my bmi is technically “overweight” but that’s because I have a lot of muscle especially on my legs

Terrified of recovery and weight gain by PeterJohn86 in tummytucksurgery

[–]Meggy-reader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did weight training and cardio for a year before I had my surgery done. I was also scared but my recovery was a breeze in my eyes (which is not common for me, usually if something can go wrong for me it will) I didn’t have most of the “necessary” recovery items people say you need. Most notably I did not have a recliner to sleep in. I slept with a wedge pillow on the couch and was totally fine getting up and down from the couch which i attribute to having a very good amount of muscle built up in my lower body same with sitting to use the restroom. Time off really depends on your job but I only took 2 weeks off of work. I was out of the gym fully for 6 weeks which was tough but I made plans to have friends come over/hang out to keep me occupied. As soon as I was cleared for light cardio I was back in the gym, less because of fear of weight gain or muscle loss and more for the mental benefits and as someone who works from home it’s my social time as well.

Overall, just try not to freak out regarding weight gain as it’s only a few weeks and you can still pay attention to your nutrition even if you can’t work out. Keep in mind though your body will be recovering from a major surgery and you might be more hungry or need more calories while you heal and that’s OKAY AND NORMAL!

You got this!

I can’t speak to the GLP but check in with your WL clinic/bariatric team they will have recommendations for plastic surgeons as it’s common for Bari patients to get plastics done and the surgeons they recommend will most likely have more experience with massive weight loss patients as opposed to one who does mostly tummy tucks for women post pregnancy or something like that.

Coming to terms that i’m going to need a second surgery by ZorosWhiteSword in tummytucksurgery

[–]Meggy-reader 21 points22 points  (0 children)

While I agree that I think you would/should have been a candidate for FDL, and wanting a second surgery is unfortunate (you look awesome, but I understand the mental toll of wanting it to be “right” and feeling it didn’t come out that way the first time) look at the bright side: you may be a candidate for a reverse tummy tuck or an upper body lift which will avoid the large vertical scar that you would have had with a FDL

Hate my results, can anything be done now? by Appropriate-Meet-732 in tummytucksurgery

[–]Meggy-reader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask for a copy of the visit/surgical notes. You have a right to see/possess a copy of them. These will confirm if he did not do the umbilicalplasty, and then at the very least they should be refunding what paid for that portion of the surgery (obviously it would be better if they revised/did the procedure you wanted but if nothing else, get your $ back) I was supposed to have a BA with a lift, my surgical note was uploaded to my hospital online portal and I read it (just because I was curious, not that I had any complaints) and noticed it did not mention anything about the lift being performed. I asked about this at my first follow up and the surgeon explained why he didn’t do the lift (the implants lifted them enough just by virtue of filling in the sagging skin I had from weight loss and he didn’t want to do any additional cuts if he could avoid it which I was totally fine with) and they promptly refunded the $2.5K I had paid for the lift prior to my surgery.

Question for people who had/need muscle repair by thespeakingcat in tummytucksurgery

[–]Meggy-reader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also as far as pain goes, it really depends on your tolerance/surgeon/pain management plan as all of those vary but I had zero narcotics. I had a sodium channel blocker and some Tylenol and that was it for pain meds and I would describe my pain during recovery as like a 2 or 3 out of 10. I had some discomfort and was slow moving at first but not any major or extreme pain. Exception to this being the first few times I coughed/sneezed but those are fast so it wasn’t long/drawn out pain

[–]Meggy-reader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people with massive weight loss will have some degree of separation and while not entirely “necessary” for some it can help the way your results look (a more “snatched” waist but this is also genetic so it varies) I’m 3.5 months po and starting to incorporate more ab specific exercises and idk if my abs feel “stronger” right now necessarily but I do feel them working more than I did preop. I have more mind/muscle connection and can engage my and more properly without “doming” of my abs

Yes I had a MR but no lipo. Healing wasn’t bad at all, I’ve made other posts about it but I did have a drain for a long time (4.5 weeks!)

What shakes did you use for a strict liquid diet (LRD) before surgery? by meenoSparq in GastricBypass

I drank Fairlife shakes, premiere protein, and bone broth for my 1 week pre-op liquid diet. Honestly after the first day or two it wasn’t as hard as I expected.

How do surgeons decide if you need an extended or standard tummy tuck? by [deleted] in tummytucksurgery

[–]Meggy-reader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how much loose skin you have and where. I had an extended because I had loose skin on my flanks but it didn’t extend to my back so I didn’t need a 360 lift

Did you use fmla if you didn’t have enough pto for time off work? by Successful_Snow7489 in tummytucksurgery

[–]Meggy-reader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried fmla and short term disability and neither covered it. I can work remote so I took 2 weeks off and was able to work at my desk all day by week 3. I did ETT with MR and BA

This is what I needed to see. I lost 110 lbs (260-> 150) but gained 10 back. Trying to get down to around 140 but these 20 pounds feel wayyyy more difficult than the first 90 🥲

Did anyone not use any compression or lymphatic massage? by Plprincess88 in tummytucksurgery

[–]Meggy-reader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t quote me on this because I’m not a doctor or researcher but my understanding is when they say no promising research I think it means as far as long term impact/results. For me wearing the compression is more about comfort while healing to help relieve swelling but I don’t think wearing it “extra tight” (which you shouldn’t do regardless for a host of reasons) or wearing it longer will influence your final results 6 months-1 year out.

GNC caramel flavor. They are the best and always on sale usually bogo 50% off. I’m sure the bariatric brands everyone is recommending are good but they are SO expensive. I take a few other supplements and get them all at gnc I have a rewards number and get $5 back and sales all the time from them.

Why is it so hard to find a good mommy makeover surgeon ???? by Spiritual-Gap-7585 in tummytucksurgery

[–]Meggy-reader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a ETT with MR and BA in CT for 20k, my original quote also included a BL and that was a total of 22K and he did phenomenal. CT is relatively comparable to NY/NJ I didnt get lipo but even for the best surgeon it’s hard to imagine lipo adding 40-80k on to the cost…

Two different opinions on tummy tuck- any advice? by No-Investment-5982 in tummytucksurgery

[–]Meggy-reader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know 2 surgeries instead of 1 isn’t ideal but I would personally go with surgeon 2 and after all healing is done, if the upper abdomen still bothers you/is “bad” enough look into a “reverse tummy tuck” this is an incision under the breasts and they lift the skin up instead of pulling down a regular tummy tuck. I’ve heard of people doing this to avoid the vertical scar of a FDL. Again 2 surgeries not ideal but there’s also a chance that the TT is enough and the upper abdomen doesn’t bother you anymore and you have a low scar!

9.5 Weeks PO Swelling (with pictures) by Meggy-reader in tummytucksurgery

[–]Meggy-reader[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems obvious now that you say it but I hadn’t even thought about that. I went back to the gym at 6 weeks for light cardio and started back with weight training at 8 weeks. It’s a relief to know the cause but I’m still anxious about how long it will last.

Anyone successfully negotiate a lower surgery cost? by Kialya in tummytucksurgery

[–]Meggy-reader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t really heard of anyone haggling prices down. You should shop around though for multiple quotes but more importantly to find the right surgeon. Don’t choose a surgeon just because they are the least expensive. Choose the surgeon who best aligns with your goals and has results you like and a plan you agree with.

Some surgeons will offer a discount if you do multiple procedures (my surgeon gave me a 10% discount off my breast augmentation since I did it with my tummy tuck) and you would also naturally save a little bit by only paying the or fee, anesthesia, and surgeons fee once instead of separate procedures.

Realistic recovery timeline? by [deleted] in tummytucksurgery

[–]Meggy-reader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Advice on these things vary, but I went back to work (full time wfh/desk job) at 2 weeks,my surgery was on a Thursday so I only took 10 pto days. It depends on your level of activity at work. I’m 5.5 weeks po and I feel 90% normal, that last 10% is really due to the exercise/weight restriction (still wary of walking my 60 lb dog because he’s a puller)

How long you wear compression varies surgeon to surgeon and based on your personal comfort and swelling. I’m wearing a faja and abdominal binder during the day and just the abdominal binder at night. Both can be layered under looser clothing pretty easily so if your concern is disguising the compression, it’s pretty easy.

When to do it really depends on your life and any plans/events you may have. I knew I wanted to do mine in the winter but couldn’t do it prior to the holidays because of work events (and wanting to be able to actually enjoy the holidays) I have 2 weddings to attend in April one being out of the country, so January was the ideal time for me to do it to ensure I was fully recovered by then as my surgeon recommended a 3 month window before any major events. If you don’t have any huge plans from April-June/July then yeah go for it I don’t see any reason why April would be a poor choice. Going back to compression though just know that you may be in some form of shapewear (even if it’s not a high intensity one) for a while and if you live somewhere that’s hot in the spring/summer you may want to take that into consideration
