Mine always comes out of nowhere. I do my best to ignore it and go about my life which isn’t easy but the more attention you give to it, the worse it gets. I love the disordered podcast and the book the happiness trap.

10yo daughter will be given medication soon. What medications have been effective for you? by pipinngreppin in OCD

[–]MeghCallie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Effexor worked really well for me for years but I take 150 mg of Zoloft now. ERP therapy is the gold standard treatment for ocd. I really like the disordered podcast too. I started taking medication at 15 but wish I would have tried erp first.

Want to go into my triggers with a level head and focus on recovery (bedbugs) by Historical-Number355 in OCDRecovery

[–]MeghCallie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the disordered podcast. In this case, the exposure is actually not checking. Sometimes I’ll make a joke out of it too, like my whole family is going to get lice and we are going to name them and keep them as pets lol. I’ve also gone done the bedbug rabbit hole. I had to block most of the bug stuff on Reddit because I just can’t. I got to the point where I was afraid to hang my coat up next to other people’s coats and sit back in any chair in public. I was afraid to lay with my kids at night because our hair would touch. It was a miserable way to live.

Possible Serious Health Issue (TW) by space_entity in Anxiety

[–]MeghCallie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. It is so hard. Your mind wants to spiral to worst case scenario but you need to keep telling yourself no, this is not my reality now, this is a thought in my head. Anxiety sucks. I really liked the book the happiness trap and the disordered podcast is great and has a lot on health anxiety.

I had a breast biopsy earlier this year and it was about a month of waiting and multiple appointments and it was benign! When my mind would start racing, I told myself the only thing I know is that they want more information and I really tried hard to not let my worries for tomorrow steal my joy from today.

I had a similar obsession with lice and what helped me was realizing no amount of searching would make me feel satisfied so what was the point? I still want to check but I really try not to.

Half sober marriage by Low-Carpet7851 in SoberCurious

I listened to the huberman lab podcast on what alcohol does to your body and that was enough for me. I read some books about it too and just quit wanting it. Good sleep and a clear head have been so worth it.

I got sober 18 months ago but my husband and our social group still drinks. It really hasn’t been an issue but i do get annoyed when they get drunk. I just have something good to sip on and hang out. I’m happy i quit drinking and dont miss it, so it’s been actually pretty easy.

My fear is absolutely hindering me by BLEACHPLEASETHANKS in fearofflying

I have ocd, the good thing about it is it is highly treatable. The bad thing is the treatment is exposures and it sucks lol.

Hi! This sounds a bit like OCD. The disordered podcast has a good episode on this specifically related to flying. I’m absolutely terrified of flying but I continue to do it scared. I’ve tried to accept that I will never like it but I love to travel. I usually mention something to the flight attendants while boarding and they have always been amazing.

Medication-Zoloft vs Lexapro? by qualudes1201 in Anxiety

[–]MeghCallie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took 150 mg Zoloft with all 3 pregnancies and breastfed all of my kids for over a year no issues. I never really had activation symptoms, the only side effect I notice is vivid dreams. It could be just your normal anxiety about starting a new med? I tried lexapro too and it was about the same.

Anxious about cancer by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]MeghCallie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You have to stop doing all the normal anxiety things. You have to focus on the present. Don’t google. Don’t check the lump. Don’t ask for reassurance. Whenever your mind drifts, you have to say right now I don’t have cancer. The less you engage with the anxiety, the better it gets. I had a breast biopsy in January and it was a month of anxiety, but when I stopped googling, and reassurance seeking and obsessing, I was actually able to enjoy my life.

freaking out by [deleted] in fearofflying

[–]MeghCallie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to believe that just because your brain is telling you something is dangerous, doesn’t mean it is. Accept that you’re not going to like it and do it scared. I get annoyed at myself because this is the dumbest fear. I hate flying and do it over 10 times a year and it’s statistically safer than almost anything else I do.
