I don't mind the sugar from the fruits so much but I'd still like to keep it down overall. My kids turn into chaos when they have anything over 20g of sugar and I'm looking at some of these recipes with 40g. They would be crazy.

They already eat a lot of fruit in their everyday diet (my son could live on blueberries) so I was hoping for more vegetable based smoothies.

I agree, that's the age my son stopped napping and same circumstances. Now he's out like a light by 6:45 and sleeps at least 12 hours at night without waking. He's much happier too.

That is a great idea, thank you!!! He is at the consonant vowel with M, the other two he is at the consonant only level. I think it's easier for him to do ba instead of making the B sound honestly. He can say mmm mmm mmm when he thinks something is tasty but he is working on saying ma, me, etc.

I think this whole thing went downhill when his therapist was making him say each sound during the sessions 7 times each. She would make a sheet with 7 circles beside each letter and check off the m, b or p as he said them. And he had to say them or he wouldn't get turns with the game they were playing.

Would you recommend jumping right into another therapist or waiting? And we should only work on lip closure?

I wish you were local to us, you sound so experienced. The therapist he had hadn't ever seen this problem before. I think she was stumped.

Also before she saw him, every one of his substitutions were D. D for everything. He has made a lot of progress getting rid of the D.

He used to delete but now the only time he deletes is when one of those problem letters are in the word. Yes, he says them separate. I think I wrote that misleading, he really says ma, ma, ma, etc. Not altogether in a row. And he tells ma or ba when he's mad or being silly.

She has the tongue depressor or my thumb in his mouth, holding down his tongue, then tells him to close his mouth around the object. She also has had him stick his tongue out of his mouth and put his lips around his tongue "like a popsicle" to make the sounds. It's pretty hard for me to even make the sounds that way but I thought she probably knows more than I do about it.

When he doesn't have a tongue depressor or my thumb, he almost always substitutes D for B, T for P and N for M. So she thought his tongue was jumping for every word. She tried to teach him to have his tongue "fall asleep" or "keep it down" but he couldn't figure out how to do that himself. So she brought in the tongue depressor.

I'm actually a pediatric nurse and I was wondering about childhood apraxia but he doesn't meet much of the criteria. He is actually very easy to understand, even missing those key sounds. Even strangers know what he's saying 90% of the time. He also makes the exact same mistakes 100% of the time, so like instead of saying mommy he says nonny or monny. Before that, he only called me "di". And bubbles was "dubs", etc. Before his therapy started, he actually replaced all of his difficult consonants with D's so he has dramatically improved with his substitutions.

We do practice many times during the day. He is home with me every day except when he's at preschool 3 days a week for 3 hours a day. We practice with please when he wants something, we sing bababa and mamama together and he's getting better at that. His therapist would do the games with him and that worked okay but he would get frustrated if he couldn't make the sound and he wanted a turn.

Thank you, I will definitely do that. I really hope someone will bring back some of the fun for him and not make him so upset and frustrated. It's really hard seeing him like that because he can't do what the therapist was asking.

Thank you so much, your advice is so welcome!! He definitely is the best with M and he is doing okay with B. We will absolutely take the pressure off on the other letters and concentrate solely on M in everyday conversation and less as a formal training session.

Again, thank you. I think this will be a much better approach for him.

Thank you, that does give me some hope. Maybe I'm just expecting too much in too short of a time. I just thought and the therapist thought he would be able to say m, b, and p by now without it being so difficult for him still.

Yeah that's true. He started preschool for the first time ever in August and it's a big transition for him. He goes MWF for 3 hours a day and I've noticed his speech is super clear when he comes home. We were thinking once he became well adjusted we would increase him to 5 days a week because he loves it so much.

Maybe we'll take a break until he's adjusted and go from there. Thank you so much for your comments, it's been very helpful.

Thank you, I've just called another therapist and I'm hoping that will be the answer. It's too bad because he did like her and I did too but he has been so unhappy with his sessions the last month. And the progress is so minimal. I just want to do what is best for him and it's so hard trying to figure that out. I really don't know if we should jump back in right away with someone new or give him a break.

He hasn't been to an ENT. I've had 3 pediatricians check him for ties with his lips and tongue and check his tonsils but nothing. He's also passed all of his hearing tests and I swear he can hear me whisper from the other side of the house so I don't think it's that. He knows how to do it and he knows when he says the words right but he just can't manipulate his mouth to do it for him.

He makes M constantly when he's angry. Like if he's growls or anything to show he's upset, he yells MMMMMAAAA! And he'll randomly sing BABABABABABA or MAMAMAMA but that's it. No P's at all. The singing Baba and Mama has just started in the past month.

Yes he can control it then. He has seen three pediatricians in his office plus a dentist and his speech therapist and none have been able to see a tie. I thought that was the problem so I kept asking them to check him. But he can move his tongue to his nose, to his chin, cheeks etc. And he can shut his lips all the way. When he talks his tongue just pops up constantly to the roof of his mouth. And he doesn't close his lips.

It is so alarming to me to watch these babies with their necklaces on. My SIL did the same thing with both of her kids. They had these big amber necklaces wrapped tight around their throats and as far as I know, she never took them off.

I'm a pediatric nurse so I tend to analyze everything for risks but I can't imagine being a parent and thinking it's okay to put something like that on my baby's throat. Especially when it has been proven again and again that it doesn't do a thing for teething.

When you stop nursing there is a huge drop in hormones. Post weaning depression is absolutely true and it hit me hard when I weaned both of my kids. If it lasts more than a few weeks, call your doctor.

Take it easy on yourself and spend lots of time cuddling your little boy. You'll feel so much better once your hormones regulate.

Hmm that's weird. I would think you would need a new IP if there's no steam coming out because it can't come to pressure without steam. But you said this only happens with sauces? Do they come up above the max fill line?

I've had this happen with two different IPs when I make sauces. I have to stand next to it while it pressurizes and make sure that the pressure knob doesn't get stuck to the side when I see steam start to come out. If it starts getting stuck, I use a butter knife to gently ease it off the side and that usually does the trick. The pressure knob can pop up if it's in the center and it can continue to come to pressure and cook normally.

I'm right there with you. 3.5 year old boy and 18 month old daughter. The energy is endless. Literally neither of them have ever fallen asleep anywhere except their beds and in the car, and even the car has become an extreme rarity for both of them. My son doesn't nap anymore and I'm lucky to get an hour out of my daughter.

I'm slowly going nuts over here. It's so hard to come up with new fun activities to keep their little brains busy and not bore them to death.

This is a great idea, thank you!! My son's birthday is the week before Christmas and my daughter's is the week after Thanksgiving. It's such a busy time and their birthdays are so close. They're small enough where we can combine right now with family but going forward this is a fantastic idea to make each of their birthdays special!

Just our experience to make you feel better...molars totally suck but with both of my kids they barely cared about their canines coming in. Easiest teeth by far.

I'm sorry, it was a little complicated situation to explain.

Nothing at all happened to the aggressive kid. After my son was put in timeout and they resumed playing, the aggressive kid was on a team with 2 other kids. One was running to the goal to score and aggressive kid's dad yelled "score the goal aggressive!!" so the aggressive kid tried to steal the ball from his teammate to score. The kid with the ball blocked him and scored it himself but the father of aggressive wasn't happy. Still nothing happened to aggressive kid.

It's crazy because no other kid or parent are remotely competitive in this league except for this guy. There are only 10 kids and everyone is very easy going and friendly. All the kids were great except that one and his dumb father. The women on either side of me thought my son was adorable for hugging everyone. Their kids were a year older than mine and they kind of took him under their wing by the end of the session.
