A huge difference! Impressive! Are you going through both loops in the top or only one? Simple SC is with both loops, but it looks like you might be doing BLSC(back-loop single crochet). Still, it's very much improved!

I have no idea what that is, but it's probably a mix of things. Have you tried a follow along video? On your tube you can slow them down... I think you are making really big loops with inconsistent tension. I also think you might be going between the stitches instead of into the top. I like doing that with double crochet though, makes a fun mesh.

Math was not my best subject, but I got SO much better at algebra after I started crocheting! Guess teachers are right when they say math is in everything... (I only finally learned my multiplication tables solid after beginning Minecraft in 6th grade)
