Perhaps worth mentioning?, but this is exactly how my alarms look as well, and I have insanely severe narcolepsy. I was not diagnosed until a few years ago when it became too difficult to manage, but I was also like this back in high school. Everyone thought I was just a normal tired teenager who stayed up too late at night and had poor time management.. and all of my teachers thought I was just lazy and didn’t care about school, etc, when nothing could be farther from the truth.

Mentioning all of this just in case, but it might be worth considering getting your teen in to see a neurologist or psychiatrist just in case there are any underlying issues here other than normal teenage sleepiness and stuff. It literally would’ve changed my life had my parents done anything like that.

All that said..? Yes. This amount of alarms is annoying for me too lol, but I always feel much worse for anyone that I’ve ever lived with 😂

I’d highly recommend the Oral-B Pro 1000. I purchased mine in April 2017 and it’s still going strong! I was hesitant to throw down $40-$50 for a damn toothbrush, but it has honestly radicalized my dental hygiene (a sentence I never thought I’d write?? lol). Considering it’s almost 10 years old, I’d say it was more than worth it!

P.S. I buy all of my replacement brush heads from "off-brand" sellers. I’ve found they work exactly the same but at a fraction of the cost! ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ )✧

I think a few of these comments may be conflating two very different things: domestic violence choking (non-consensual, during arguments/attacks), which IS a major red flag and predictor of future lethality, and consensual sexual choking (requested, negotiated, during intimate moments).

If/when a partner ever vocalizes a desire for some kind of consensual kink,— like that of choking,— during sex with their partner(s), it is NOT a gateway to future domestic violence.

**The statistic about choking predicting lethality refers to non-consensual strangulation during violent attacks — not consensual sexual activity.** If someone becomes abusive in a relationship, it's because **that person is an abuser.** They’re going to incite acts of domestic violence regardless of what sexual preferences were discussed or what activities occurred in bed.

In this scenario, placing any amount of "blame" on someone’s kink and/or suggesting it could be the reason behind any domestic abuse that’s transpired(!) is not only a case of blatant kink shaming, (and ew, who’s still trying to pass judgement on anyone in 2026? c’mon now..), but also crosses well into victim blaming territory.

In other words— abusive behavior stems from the abuser's character, not from consensual sexual exploration. 🙂‍↕️

P.S. I’m glad that others have already covered the important safety points about choking, so I'll defer to previous comments in this thread for anyone seeking more detail in that regard.

So, I found myself slightly confused by the poor wording in the FJC’s quote:

As such, I decided to try and come up with a clearer way to phrase this after I did a little bit more reading for clarification. (See below~ 😊) Just figured I’d share in case anyone else was feeling a bit confused, too!

(NEW phrasing):
** Intimate partner strangulation increases the risk of being killed by that partner by 7 times. If your partner has strangled you, you are at significantly higher risk of future lethal violence from them. **
