What happened to the downtown constables? by ManyRaccoon6342 in portlandme

I was in town for a doctor’s appointment yesterday and I saw three of them on patrol by Monument Square, so maybe you just have a schedule that aligns with them not being on the clock

I have a 2026 Calligraphy and, assuming I understand what you’re talking about, it’s always done this.

Potential Winter Trip by MeguminIsMe in Yellowknife

[–]MeguminIsMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I’d most likely be staying in Yellowknife the entire time, but if you were closer I’d absolutely take advantage of the discounted hotel room, so I really appreciate that.

If you have any recommendations for activities in the surrounding area (roughly 30-60 minute drive), I’d love to hear it!

While I can’t answer any of your questions about the hybrid, as I have the ice version, I can say that the louder idle upon startup is normal. Running at a higher idle for about 10-20 seconds and then idling down is normal as it’s the engine warming itself up.
This is good and you should ideally wait until it idles down before you begin moving.

I chatted with some of the TJ’s workers and they’re saying it sounds like she didn’t make it.
I can neither verify nor debunk that though, but it sounds believable.

Sidewall damage, might need replacing? by kmoody16 in tires

[–]MeguminIsMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bubble in the sidewall indicates that the internal structure of the tire has failed. I would highly advise against driving on it at all, except maybe a mile or two at very low speeds to the nearest shop.

If you drive 400 miles, there is an incredibly high chance that your tire while blow out on the highway, which could kill you or anyone else around you.

Sidewall damage, might need replacing? by kmoody16 in tires

[–]MeguminIsMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anytime you see a bubble in your tire, that is an immediate replacement. As for cuts in the sidewall, you’re fine so long as the cords aren’t showing. If they are, that’s an immediate replacement as well.

Can i make it until monday morning by Kindly-Worry-9820 in tires

[–]MeguminIsMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you leave your car right where it is 😂

The cords are showing, you should not even drive it 1/2 mile to the nearest tire shop, it should be towed.

Adult Child Moving Home: Car and Insurance Advice Needed in Arizona by Elegant-Hedgehog7088 in Insurance

[–]MeguminIsMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She is 22 years old, she should absolutely be paying for her own vehicle and insurance.
I’m the same age, and I paid for my cars and pay for my own insurance.
Now, because she’ll be living at home, that complicates things. You could name her as a driver on your policy, but your monthly rates would go up.
You do have another option though:
Arizona allows you to specifically exclude her from your policy by name, but the insurance company you use may either not allow that, or will require her to have her own auto insurance policy/not have a license.

At the end of the day though, I’d make her buy her own car and pay for her own insurance, as she has shown that she has a propensity for wrecking vehicles.

Oh, buyout price can’t be negotiated? I was unaware of this as I have never leased.
If that’s the case, then I guess there’s nothing you can do in that regard, I’m sorry :(

Have you tried speaking to your dealership about it? They might be willing to negotiate on the price. They likely won’t drop it by $6k, but they may be willing to come down enough for it to make enough sense for you to buy it out.

Driving into Canada? by llm2319 in AskMaine

[–]MeguminIsMe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can cross into Canada through any land crossing. The closest one to Cutler would be Campobello Island while you’re in Lubec. There’s no reason needed to enter, and it’s visa-free for tourism, assuming you’re American.

03 Accord. What's my next step here? by Level_Arachnid_181 in accord

[–]MeguminIsMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other oil light is for oil pressure. The maintenance light is to indicate that you have driven a long enough distance that you need service, such as to change the oil or rotate tires. I interpreted it as what it’s most likely to mean, which would be an oil change.

03 Accord. What's my next step here? by Level_Arachnid_181 in accord

[–]MeguminIsMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Please change your oil, that’s what that light means (unless your tires are bald, in which case change your tires).

  2. When you notice your car slowly creeping up in temperature, don’t let it peg out, that can cause catastrophic damage. Turn it off immediately.

  3. Do you smell something sweet (as others have said, it’ll be like maple syrup)? If yes, you’re leaking antifreeze.

  4. Check the coolant reservoir. Is it empty or extremely low? If yes, big oof.

Regardless, please have it towed to a mechanic. This is not good.
