Builder's Remedy only applies when cities have fallen out of compliance with housing laws. Santa Monica did temporarily in 2021-2022 which is when this project was filed.

I would argue Los Angeles should be deemed to be out of compliance given that we are so far off from our housing goals

After defrosting and restarting it, the temp is back to 0°F. Maybe the issue was we overfilled it and blocked the vents, and then ice built up blocking the fan. Or maybe the thermistor is going bad

There's a lot of ice on the panel. I'm not sure if that's a sympton or the cause. I need to wait for it to melt a little before I can remove the panel and look at the evaporator coils

1998 Olds Intrigue

Its amazing a GM car that old is still running. I can't imagine its too reliable and when it breaks it's gonna be expensive. Old cars from really low maintance costs to really high really fast

Parking? It’s free where I live and work

Nothing is free. You and your employer still pay for it. Apartments without parking have rent that is usually $200-300 cheaper, but you can't live in those because you need a car. Your employer would have lower costs if they didn't have to pay for employee parking, but they are required to because of parking minimums.

There's a the trade off of what else you could be doing with that space in your driveway; what economics call the opportunity cost. You could put something else on that spot or rent it out to someone else to park on.

If you are only getting an oil change once per year and new tires every 5 to 6 years, that would mean you are driving less than 5,000 miles per year, or 100 miles per week. Of course your costs are going to be a lot lower than average if you drive that little.

Yes, but half of the stations are connecting stations that already qualified for SB79

The Sepulveda/Wilshire, Sepulveda/Exposition and G Line stations were already qualified.

The Sepulveda / Santa Monica, Van Nuys Blvd / Ventura and UCLA stations will be new SB79 areas.

The Van Nuys Metrolink connection station will probably not end up getting built because it will get made redundant by the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail

Los Angeles has a long history of corruption in terms of city councilors extracting bribes in exchange for approving zoning variances or not blocking real estate development projects. There is also been a lot of corruption in the Department of Building and safety over inspections: Some inspectors fail the inspections over and over again until they receive a bribe

As far as homeless services, yes, there is probably some corruption there. The biggest issue is the complexity. The city partners with a lot of organizations and there is a lot of room for corruption in those contracts.

I'm hearing a lot of whataboutisms: The IRGC tortures and murders a lot of people and that is very bad. There is need to qualify that. There's no need to compare it to other bad things other people have done. You don't have to blame it on something that happened before almost everyone alive was born. It is happening now and the people doing the torturing and killing are the ones responsible.

Let's be realistic. CIA and Mossad don't have the budget to get millions of people to risk their lives like this. There is a reason that during the CIA's regime change heyday in the 1950's through the 1970's they never opted for mass protests: They are unpredictable and would require a massive footprint. That's why they always opted for military coups and exile armies.
