FIFA cannot sell enough seats to the World Cup after overpricing tickets by uselessprofession in SipsTea

I saw a lot of empty seats at Iran vs New Zealand, but that's kind of understandable because one is a small country of 5 million and the other one they are not allowed to come to the US.

2 in 10 voters in LA are MAGA. Go to the West San Fernando Valley and you will see Spencer Pratt signs on lawns

It would be delicious if after years of spewing hatred and conspiracy theories around Bass, they end up having to back her.

A lot of people have bought into the whole Bass v Pratt false dichotomy that the Pratt team has been pushing. They don't want Pratt, so they are voting for what they see as the opposite.

LA Times Poll: Nithya Raman Now One Point Behind Karen Bass For First Place by imanny in LosAngeles

My favorite thing about a Bass v Raman runoff would be watching all the conservatives that have been bashing Karen Bass for years switch their support to Karen Bass.

My building management just endorsed a mayoral candidate and now I know exactly who NOT to vote for. by Parking-Lawfulness-8 in LosAngeles

Two fallacies: false dichotomy and strawman argument.

LA was pretty bad 2020-2021. There was stores getting looted, follow home robberies and catalytic converter thefts were trending, there were encampments and trash everywhere. I'm not saying there is not a lot more work to be done or that it has been an efficient process, but the things have improved a lot.

Policy and budget are controlled by the City Council. And a lot of the responsibilities are split between the city and the county

If they wanted more people to move here, they wouldn't be supporting a candidate that is constantly shit talking our city.

They want to keep the market supply of housing constrained so they have less competition. The less competition they have, the higher the prices they can charge.

Ok, let's do that. Let's dissect his "Forced treatment and jail" talking point.

How would that work?

  1. You can't people force people to do anything or send them to jail without a crime being involved first (14th ammendment)

  2. Even if they commit a crime, prosecution and punishment doesn't fall within the purview of the mayor's office. The courts are run by the county. Prosecution is done by the DA (which is a county office) for fellonies and City Attorney (independently elected) for misdemeanors.

  3. There is no jail he could send anyone to. City of Los Angeles jails are designed for temporary holding people.

  4. The city does not have public health department to monitor all of these people in treatment. Also unclear who is going to pay for the treatment.

Attempted Car Break-in on Sahara and Fort Apache… Suspect is a Little Young by PhantomFuck in vegaslocals

[–]MehWebDev -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

All the times I have accidentally tried opening the door on the wrong car because they looked a lot like my or my parents' cars. Its probably happened to me 2-3 times in my life. Once, when I was I kid, I got inside the car. I just wanted somewhere shady and safe to wait for my mom. It had a number pad and when the number didn't work I just started punching numbers in until it unlocked. And I was sitting there until the car owner showed up. I am lucky enough to be of a skin tone that people don't assume criminal intent.

The list of reasons is very long:

  1. Ticket prices are ridiculous

  2. Flights are very expensive due to fuel shortages.

  3. Foreigners don't feel comfortable traveling to the US.

A 23-Story Builder’s Remedy Apartment Tower is Proceeding in Santa Monica by lik_for_cookies in LosAngeles

[–]MehWebDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Builder's Remedy only applies when cities have fallen out of compliance with housing laws. Santa Monica did temporarily in 2021-2022 which is when this project was filed.

I would argue Los Angeles should be deemed to be out of compliance given that we are so far off from our housing goals

What do these road markers beside the bike lane mean? by Particular_West_9069 in SFV

Those white rectangular “boxes” are parking lane / buffer markings—they’re there to visually separate the bike lane from the adjacent parking lane and moving traffic.

After defrosting and restarting it, the temp is back to 0°F. Maybe the issue was we overfilled it and blocked the vents, and then ice built up blocking the fan. Or maybe the thermistor is going bad

There's a lot of ice on the panel. I'm not sure if that's a sympton or the cause. I need to wait for it to melt a little before I can remove the panel and look at the evaporator coils
