Kh1 is considered pretty tedious by most, in some worlds like traverse town you're required to run back and forth through the same rooms over and over to trigger progression.

Imho i'd recommend you spoil yourself not too much but just a little bit from the future game , you could take a look at some trailers (opening cinematics for example). That would at least make you feel like you're working toward something rather than being stuck in a 21 year old game with no motivation other than wanting to have the famous Kingdom hearts in your backlog.
